View Full Version : LifeDrive and Martin Fields Syn/Charge Cable
Anybody here use this cable?
I'm having problem in using this cable in the LD's DriveMode. My computer won't see the LD as an external drive. Wonder if it is a design limitation due to the extra slim cable.
When connected, I got this message on my compter:
"The Palm Handheld is a Hi-Speed USB device and will function at reduced speed when plugged into a non-Hi-Speed port."
On the LD side:
"Drive Mode is On, Do not unplug" but it won't have the little blue dots blinking on the LD's Drive Mode screen.
However the hotsync and charging are working fine.

Hi lkj,
I'm experiencing the same issue as well, using the same cable. I have not tried the "drive mode" yet, but the moment I plug my LD into my PC using this cable, I get the "The Palm Handheld is a Hi-Speed USB device and will function at reduced speed when plugged into a non-Hi-Speed port." message.
Hotsyncing is much slower as compared to the Palm supplied cable. I suspect it is syncing at USB 1.1 instead of 2.0.
Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Hi,
FWIW, I had the exact same issue with Boxwave's minisync for LifeDrive. I asked Boxwave, and they assured me it was not normal, and I should exchange the item. I am waiting for the new one to come, we'll see.
Greetings,

Hi Everyone,
Due to the current limitations of the LifeDrive miniSync at USB 1.1 speed (reason being the thin cable), it is normal for your computer to response with "The Palm Handheld is a Hi-Speed USB device and will function at reduced speed when plugged into a non-Hi-Speed port."
This still means that your LifeDrive is successfully communicating with your PC. You should be able to HotSync, connect to the Mobile Manager software and also connect in Drive Mode. But note that the LifeDrive can only do ONE of these function at one given time. For example, you will notice that when you HotSync, the Mobile Manager program will note that you aren't connected to it anymore. When the HotSync is finished, the Mobile Manager will note that it is connected to the LifeDrive once again.
It's all sort of confusing if you're new at the LifeDrive, but from our testing, the current LifeDrive miniSync does work. It just doesn't transfer at highspeeds. ;)
Cheers, :)

B0ll0x....and I just ordered one!!! Will the boxwave AA battery 'on-the-go' recharger thing work through the minisync thin cable for the LD?? I assume so but just to make sure...

SoS,
Yes, Battery Adpater will work to charge the LifeDrive - best when the LifeDrive screen is OFF. It charges slower when the LifeDrive is left on and being used.

I bought the battery adapter from box wave. I bought it for when I fly. I got it today, it seems to work. Ill run down my battery today and charge it up by the boxwave tonight and tell you all how it went.
I bought a mini sync cable from another company , Stylus cnetral. And it sucks. MNost of the time it doesnt connect and I get error messages saying check connections.
No offence to the chap from boxwave but I think these companies should very clearly state that these minisync cables are very slow (if they work at all), I bought it thinking it would be exactly the same as the palmone cable - just more portable!
returning things would not be cost effective for me so Im stuck with these things which dont in fact do what they were advertised as doing (eg 3 in 1 stylus and minisync cable). Its no big deal, about 20 dollars total but its the principle really.

Hi,
Maybe if your (I accept that you are from Boxwave) support team was aware of this fact, they wouldn't have told me in email that the minisync is USB2 compliant, and I wouldn't have had to send it back for exchange...
A bit bitter now!

For information, this is Boxwave's reply to my first enquiry about the problems I had with the MiniSync: "The LifeDrive miniSync is compatible with USB 2.0, as the message reads: "HI-SPEED USB Device Plugged into non-HI-SPEED USB Hub". To my understanding, this means that a USB 2.0 cable is connected into a USB 1.1 port. Nonetheless, this will not effect the functionality of the cable as the USB 2.0 miniSync is reverse compatible."
So it seems that people there were simply not aware that it's not USB2 compliant.

Are there any USB2.0 sync and charge cables out there for the LD?
Either full thickness or ziplinq type?
