Any suggestions for useful DAs? I use HRCapt and just found ToDo DA, and am curious if there are other free ones out there. Appreciate if folks who recommend DAs would list where I can get them. Thanks.

I use both of them and ezConvDA - its allows for conversion between english and metric units, very good.

Here, I found it at www.freewarepalm.com - the link is below.

Yea, Muchy is a good site. Check these sites out too:
H.Yamakado's Home (http://www001.upp.so-net.ne.jp/h-yama/index-e.htm)
Takemaes' Palm Softwares (http://www.valley.ne.jp/~takemae/index.html)
TONTATA's Home Page (http://member.nifty.ne.jp/mmaeda/e/palmos.html#alyz)
nXtClieClub (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nXtClieClub/files/-Desk%20Accessories/)
ToDo DA is OK, but I use A5 (http://www.cliesource.com/sdownload/fileinfo.php?id=3344) which is really cool app that replace the DateBook weekly view and it has a popup window similar to ToDo DA by just tapping on the date. One thing cool about A5 is it also has icons which you can attach to the ToDo item. For example, if it is something about laptop, just attach the laptop icon next to the item, so it saves some wordings and makes a quick glance on what the ToDo item is all about.

One of the more useful DAs I use is Call Lookup DA. Access the built in address book by searching for a name.
get it at: http://www04.u-page.so-net.ne.jp/zd5/kterada/pilot
[EDIT] The URL doesn't seem to work anymore. It may be available at other software sites, or if you like, I could email it to you, let me know.

I use the following
ResetDA
LinfoDA
LClipDA
HRCaptDA
ezConvDA
daMemoPad
Using McPhling as DA Launcher
AudioCtrl is very useful if you want to listen to MP3 on the go. You don't need to enter security for listening MP3. You can launch it by a finger swipe with EasyLaunch. When I want to quickly launch MP3 on the go, here is how I do:
1. Turn on the CLIE.
2. Flick my finger over the graffiti area to launch AudioCtrl which pops up AudioContol DA screen over the System Lockout screen.
3. Connect the earbud speaker.
4. Press AddressBook hard button to play MP3.
5. Slide the Hold button to turn off the screen.
I can then put the CLIE in the pocket and do something else while listening to MP3.
There are other DAs that conveniently bypass the security, e.g., Volume DA, CalCal, and StopWatch. I don't want to enter my security code for just doing a simple calculation or trying to time something. For these tasks, I just turn the CLIE on, flick a finger on the screen. Just like what you will do on any calculator or stopwatch.
One thing cool about StopWatch, you can turn the CLIE off and the StopWatch will keep on ticking. Once the end time is near, then you can turn on the CLIE and stop the StopWatch at the stopping point.
Not all DAs can be launched over the System Lockup screen, especially those that can reveal private info. A couple examples are CallLookupDA and daMemoPad. Both DAs will require you to enter security code.

Tanker Bob:
I use the following DAs:
NowDA - pops up a window showing the date and time.
http://member.nifty.ne.jp/mmaeda
AudioControlDA - available here on Cliesource in the Hacks & DAs section
ToDo DA (alread mentioned)
Calesche DA - pops up a small calendar showing the current month. Sorry - can't remember where I got that one from. I think there was a thread in one of the forums which had a link to it.
While I think about it, let me say thanks for your helpful web-site. I have referred to it a number of times.

Thank you for your kind words, and for your help w/DAs. I suspect the my site will be updated in the near future with a DA discussion and listing. :)
With everyone's helpful input, I've settled on the following DAs for now:
CalCal
daMemoPad
ezConvDA
HRCaptDA (already had this)
LinfoDA
NowDA (may drop in favor of LinfoDA)
ResetDA (waiting for next lockup while beta testing to see if it works after a FE. Gone if it doesn't)
StopWatch (may not last long as I don't need a stopwatch often)
ToDoDA
VolumeDA (with Restore. Already used this at church this morning.)
wclockDA (already have a fixed offset in ClockPop, so may not keep this long)
Most of them are running under PiDirect just fine. Thanks to everyone for their help!

ResetDA does not work if unit locks up. What I use it for is when deleting programs in Filez or McFile. After deleting programs I will reset the unit and go back to Filez or McFile and remove the famouse a68 files associated with the program just removed. Sometimes the reset will get rid of them sometimes not.

mdharris,
Thanks for the information on ResetDA. If you would indulge me, what are a68 files, how do I ID and delete them?
MegaLauncher has soft reset button w/o pocking the hole in the back with a pin.
But what the hey,
ResetDA is only 1K.
So I installed it in my Clie,
any way.

ZLauncher has a tool for it, but having it pop up as a DA might be handy. I don't display the tool because I don't want to tap it by accident.
MegaLauncher is on the other extreem about being overly cautious on simple soft reset deal. I have to tap 3 times for a soft reset (1. tap Palm icon on the bottom tool bar to popup PalmOS window, tap Soft reset icon to pop up Soft reset window, where it says "Do you really want to reset your device?", 3. tap OK to proceed with the soft reset). What's a big deal about a soft reset? In fact sometimes it's a good thing for cleaning up some trash out of the RAM, isn't it?

Yea, they are basically free. Paranoia strikes deep, it starts when you're always afraid...
hey tanker_bob, since you use Volume DA, that reminds me something about it. Volume Resume, other than it is automatically used by Volume DA to resume the Clie sound after a prescribed time, the icon has no other function other than displaying the developer info. I didn't want it to clutter my screen so I hid it with FileZ (by select the file, tap 'Details', tap 'Attributes' tap, check 'Hidden', tap 'Save', and voila, the icon is gone from the screen).

Tanker Bob,
a68k files are used on Palm OS5 units. If I remember right they are files that are left behind after a program is ran usually native in OS4.0. Anyways these files are basically orphans after the program is removed and they are read only so they cannot be removed unless you remove the program and reset your unit... In theory.

I have a hidden tab in ZLauncher for those kinds of programs, plus those assigned to buttons. ZL's new file manager will also change attributes, BTW. ZL will also create a special DA tab which will launch DAs. Very slick.

tanker_bob,
Is that DA Tab in the beta of 3.0 or also in the current 2.3?

It's in 2.3. Just create a new tab, and select DA for the preset type. There are other goodies in that listbox as well. :)

The following are my DAs:
SelectDA (use with Slow Launch to pop up list of all DAs using Jog Dial.)
acLock (turns off and locks my Clie)Ak Util also does this.
Ak Util (like Linfo, except more functions and more artsy)
AOCtrlDA (more auto off control than default auto off)
ApptViewer DA (access to todays appts and monthly calendar)
AudioCtrl ( MP3 control)
Biorhythm DA (self explanatory)
Bookmark DA (App launcher, and file launcher)
CalCal (simple calculator)
calescheDA (Monthly calendar linked to datebook)
Call Lookup DA (quick phone number look up)
Context (define related apps, select this when in one, and the other is launched.)
ezConv DA
daMemopad
HR Capt DA
LClipDA (clipboard on steroids)
Melody DA (learning to be a pianist(hope I spelled that right))
Quicksync DA (great for syncing when I use my cable instead of the cradle)
SAVLGDA (like volume control DA)
SHChanger DA (easy way to change security setting from hide to show and vice versa)
Stopwatch DA (self explanatory)
SystemAnalysis DA (similar to SysTool, but a DA)
ToDoDA (just added, thanks to PurpleMD)
I use these with both my NR and my N610
I like LClipDA too. Just got tired of being able to copy & paste one memo with the Palm OS "/", instead of 10 memos as LClipDA would.

I use just two DAs:
AkUtilsDA - great tool, but I wish to have hires version :)
HRCaptDA
rfarias02

I use several DAs and must of them have already been mentioned here. I think the next ones have not:
wclockDA: Displays current time of two time zones (usefull for trevelers).
DigiDA: For checking the digitalizer.
ResistorDA: Resistor's color code.
Thanks for the tips. I will try to find CalescheDA as I was looking for a monthly calendar DA.

Has anyone tried the following DA's on OS5 Clie's... I'm having a few problems with them.....
I'm running them on a TG50 using Mcphling....
memopadDA - fatal exception (Emul68kCommon.c, Line:1594, Index out of range)
audioctrlDA - nothing shows up on the screen when i select it
ToDoDA - fatal exception (Emul68kCommon.c, Line:1594, Index out of range)
AudioListDA - gives me a message "Audio Library Not Found" and then quits.
Call Lookup DA - The query window appears correctly, but once i launch a search it gives me a Fatal Exception.
Any help would be really welcome.....

Anyone know of a capitalizer/uncapitalizer DA besides ToUpperDA?
Instead of having a window to select whether to capitalize/uncapitalize, I'd rather have the DA perform the functions immediately. For example,
ToUpperCapsDA ---> turns selected text to upper caps
ToLowerCapsDA ---> turns selected text to lower caps
ToSentenceCapsDA ---> turns selected text to lower caps
Any DA that does this? Perhaps Alex Pruss could whip out one?

You guys might consider using accessorizer to create DAs from apps.

Was it Alex who was developing an app to create standalone macro's?
Any progress on that app yet ?

ILMM is creating an app called DABuilder and we are currently beta testing it. It looks very promising. I have pointed him to this thread for ideas on the type of DAs people are looking for.

It's really just a matter of doing a UI for it, if one wants to do it, since mySkin/myKbd has an API that can be used for running macros (and the free version is all one needs). But I probably won't be doing this.
