I don't know as I am not a programmer. I can tell you that it is an error. The cause is a corrupted memory, app or missing file.

In my opinion, you have installed an application or a hack which is not compatible with NZ90.
You must remove this application / hack.
If you don’t know what is the program which fails, and if your Clié displays this error message each time you perform a soft reset, I think you must perform a hard reset an re-install all your applications / hacks one by one.

Well it will not hard reset either. I think that if i was gonna waste your time if i didn't try that first.

Sorry, I don't know other way to solve your problem.
If you perform...
1. Hard Reset
2. Perform a Hatsync
... then the bad application will be re-installed on your Clié
You must perform :
1. Hard Reset
2. Backup the "Backup" directory which contains all installed apps on your NZ90
3. Erase the "Backup" directory
4. Install 1 application on your Clié
5. Perform a Hotsync
6. Cleck if your NZ90 works fine
7. Goto 4
If it is not the installed apps which fail, it may be the DateBook data.
Good Luck.

What do you mean by saying that it will not perform a hard reset ?
To do a hard reset you would:
hold down the pin inside the reset hole,
at the same time hold down the power switch
remove the pin from reset hole
after a second or so let go of the power switch.
you should now see an option on the screen:
UP - erase all data
DOWN - cancel
or something along those lines
pressing UP will erase all the custom programs and data from your clie and reset it back to factory form.
Are you saying that you CANNOT do a hard reset,
or are you saying that even rigth after hard reset you get the same error again.
OR, are you getting the error after performing hard reset AND syncing all your data back on to the clie. (in that case look at the solution DENONY gave you :)

some things to look for and to delete could be:
BTtoggle, AIM ver. 1.1, A bad Yishow skin. These things all caused me some minor problems similar to yours.

This is why it's so important to have good backups, not the HotSync backup. Bad apps or apps not designed for your Clie or any number of items. Usually it requires what denony has described, sorry, unless you are really lucky and remember exactly what proceeded your malfunction, it's best to start over.

Follow denony's instructions, as your desktop backup is also corrupted. Sometimes I had my RAM, memory stick, and the Palm Desktop backup all corrupted. I wipe everything clean, reformat the MS and restore from good backups. I keep rolling backups, just in the last one was bad. It's all too easy to backup and not know trouble is lurking :(

the program giving you that error is most likely your aim app. Dont mess with it, try verichat instead

There is also a medium reset that I discovered on the NZ90, poke the reset while holding either arror up or down, I forget now. One does nothing, one does a semi bootup where it seems not to load everything up. I have been able to then go into Clie Files and delete the last thing I know I installed from either the internal or the MS, then do another poke reset.
This has saved me from full hard erases and restores many times as I install every little thing that comes along.

It's the up button and commonly known as the warm reset, sort of like a safe mode on a windoze PC.
