My new NZ90 is fully charged and I have just taken my first pictures (MS is backordered). I'm a happy camper.
However, before I go ahead and sync it, I need to find out how to replace the features I have come to know and love that are pre-OS5 on my Visor Prism. I'm hoping to learn from others who have done the same. I've already checked out the thread at http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=58&perpage=15&highlight=hack%20os5&pagenumber=1 (By the way, I recommend that thread highly it helped with many issues. To help others, I've put in some items I have found beyond what I saw there.) These are in priority order. Thanks in advance for your advice (and for wading through all the questions).
First and foremost is whether Intellisync Lite can meet my basic needs. I sync with Outlook, but do NOT sync the email or the notes. I prefer to use the palm desktop memo function, which is easier to search. Can I set up Intellisync to use Outlook for calendar and phonebook but not memo pad? For the Calendar and Phonebook I only need the basic capabilities: support for the 15 (I use fewer) palm categories; long email addresses; large notes appended to either people or calendar items; recurring events, etc. If so, I'll be happy; if not, I'll purchase Chapura PocketMirror (what Handspring bundles, which works very nicely). I presume that the Clie memo pad syncs to the Palm Desktop application. I have noted the comments at these threads http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5817&highlight=intellisync and http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4451&highlight=intellisync . Looks like pdagal would say I'm OK with Intellisync Lite, but also is a fan of Chapura. How big a pain will it be to revert to Chapura if I start out with Intellisync Lite?
#2 Encryption for memo items. I have been using Certicom's Secure Memo Pad application. All I need is to encrypt a handful of memos in the Memo application. The way it works is it encrypts only those items where I check the encrypt box for the item, and then if I later select it, I'm prompted for a password. That's all I need I don't need a login program. Certicom doesn't seem to make a similar product anymore. I've seen CCrypt, but it only encrypts/decrypts the clipboard, which is a bit of a pain. PDA Defense looks like overkill. One person at the link above liked Secret! (http://www.linkesoft.com/secret/) Anybody else try that? Any other ideas?
#3 Buttons. I use AppHack, which allows me to use a 2-button sequence to launch apps. That way, I don't have to lose my calculator button to launch Docs to Go, for example. Instead, I press the calculator button and then the phone button. Is there an equivalent for OS5? I guess I would need TealMaster to run it? I can't tell if Hackmaster or x-master work with OS5. There is an alternative called Hard Button Extender (HBX) 1.3, which is OS5 compatible, which, I think, means I don't need a Hack-manager program. Is that right? Or should I look at Zlauncher/LauncherX to replace the built-in launcher (I know that is a can of worms )?
#5 TealScript vs. Jot. I have an old version of TealScript now. Is graffiti improved enough on the Clie (with the greater pixel density) to eliminate the need? Should I consider getting Jot? Should I get the latest TealScript?
#6 Evedit nice drag and drop editing, saves the last 10 clipped items for pasting etc. A hack. Any alternatives?
#7 Expense app replacement. Any freeware available? I only need something very simple. All I have found is Expenses v1.0 http://www.freewarepalm.com/financial/expenses.shtml . The thread here at http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1240&perpage=15&highlight=expense%20app&pagenumber=1 didn't show much except for HandWallet. I have found one new item that looks like it fits the bill: PocketTEA (Travel Expense Account) http://www.freewarepalm.com/travel/pockettea.shtml . I'll try that one out. Anyone with an alternative?
