Anyone have an opinion on which is the best ebook reader and why. The only thing I know I need is a smooth auto scroll.

TIA

TiBR is good if you're just using Doc format, cause it's free.

PalmFiction. There is no substitute. It's the best reader I've used, and I've used them all.

You'll also have to consider the formats used by the books you want to read. This is the reason I keep both eReader and Mobipocket in my T3, because most of the books I have are in their proprietary formats.

I've used eReader Pro in its various forms since it first came out ... I think its great.

I have also used eReader pro since it was palmreader pro. As far as I'm concerned it is the best. I've tried Tiny Book Reader (TiBR), it scrolls very differently than ereader. I suggest trying the free versions of everything you are considering first. I also keep all my books on my card in a subdirectory - so I would suggest that your reader be VFS aware (most are).

I've always loved iSilo - It's espescially good when you have LOTS of Docs, but mostly I like it because the convertor is quite flexible.

I also use Plucker, but it has some annoyances that make me use iSilo more.

WordSmith has proven to be a good PalmDOC reader - It has built-in anti-aliased fonts and stuff and has very smooth scrolling.

PalmFiction is great. It is to documents what TCPMP is to videos ;)

Hmmm, which are the install files I should use for the LifeDrive? I see the main prc and the english one but the resolution files list multiple hi res:

pfDefaultThemeHI4.prc
pfDefaultThemeHI16.prc
pfDefaultThemeHI.prc

Unfortuantely I cannot read the page since it is in a different language.

Thanks Jeff. I figured this was it and for some reason couldn't wait for a response so I just went ahead and installed it. Nice looking software expecially since it gives you a true full screen. Any ideas on where some documentation is that is in english? Having some issues getting the Autoscroll to work. I tried just the default prefs but when I select autoscroll on the toolbar nothing seems to happen. I really like the fact that it has a drop and drag toolbar but was also surprised that it doesn't have an autoscroll icon although the brightness icons are sweet.

Where do you get different fonts that can be loaded into the selector?

Thanks for the info! I think it would have taken me a bit to figure out the scroll starts with the hard button if I would have figured it out at all.

This reader is great, I can't believe the amount of customization you can do, and yeah my one request was certainly fulfilled. In fact I never saw the other 2 types of autoscroll and will probably be sticking with one of them.

Thanks again for everyone's help in tracking this one down.

I'd go for plucker!
OpenSource, can create ebooks out of HTML, nice feature set, DIA support, lots of fonts, everything here.
Only thing I lack is better table support....

PalmFiction trumps Plucker. It's also opensource, and read HTML directly (along with text, RTF, Word...), even more features and options than Plucker, Full screen support (can get rid of the DIA *and* the status bar), fonts, etc...

I love Plucker! I use JPluckX (Better than Plucker for PC) on my PC to "pluck" html doc's/sites and then the Plucker reader on my Clie. I just love being able to click on stuff and go to the desired page/chapter.

Hmmm, I tried to read a downloaded HTM page using PalmFiction but it appears to show all the HTML tags as well, am I doing something wrong or do I need an additional plugin? Since this didn't work I copied this large HTM page into MS Word (no pics or anything just a lot of text) and saved as an .rtf, this didn't work either. Is the RTF file that is mentioned something different than a MS Word converted .rtf?

What isilo converter are you referring too? Are you saying that this converter will allow you to convert palmdoc, ereader, etc. ebooks to other formats? If so, where do i get this converter?

Personally I prefer eReader Pro. One nice feature is that it there are versions for Palm OS, Pocket PC, and Windows and you can read books on either OS without compatibility problems.

I have tried just about all of them and am in love with PalmFiction. Not only does it have an extreme amount of configuration options but I don't believe I could go back to a reader that does the typical auto-scroll. PalmFiction has your standard auto-scroll but my choice is the RTA option in which the text itself doesn't move but at a configured speed overwrites itself...nice. Also, full screen on this software really means full screen, nothing but text.

Ive been using PalmFiction pretty much since I got the LifeDrive but I never tried the RTA function - that's cool! One more reason to love this program!!
