Hmmm, although I've used a palm for about 10 years or so I never had the need to do the following so I thought I'd ask. This is what I need to do with my LifeDrive:

I would like to reinstall the desktop software so it clears out the hotsync conduit and basically is a fresh install, erase all info on my lifedrive (including harddrive) so I can start from scratch and resync only the built in PIMS (datebook, contacts, todos and memos)

It appears this is easy but obviously I don't want to do it wrong, can anyone give me a step by step.

TIA

Back up your Palm User Data then erase ALL Palm Desktop and HotSync data. Then do a fresh install of the Palm Desktop software from your CD. Put back your User folder EXCEPT the Backup folder. When you sync the first time, set PC overwrite Handheld for the PIMs and your PIM data should be restored.

You can then reinstall your applications from scratch. I am on a Mac so the instruction may not be exact.

The tricky part is deleting the backup folder. I had trouble with this myself.

After the hotsync, whatever is in the backup folder gets re-installed onto the palm. I don't know why it is set up to do this automatically. Generally if you're starting from scratch it's because so palm is so messed up that you need to start over. In that case reinstalling all the stuff from your backup folder is the last thing you want!

If you do want to keep the backup folder around, just in case, it's not enough just to rename it (at least on a mac). You need to copy it to another folder then delete the original.
