I also posted this on Brighthand...

I was looking for a great pair of earbuds for my LD. I love my actual Koss PortaPro - they sound amazing, way better that the senheizer that costs a little much. Problem is they are too big to carry around. They are perfect when i'm at my desk but not in transit from home to work.

I did not want to pay 150$ either so I came accross the iPod in-ear Headphones. Wow i'm quite surprised by the bass response of these. I never thought so much bass could come out of an earbud.

Then I say go, buy them. They are great.

They could be better though ;) ...
One site I found was strongly suggesting replacing the little flexible caps with foam caps from Shure (www.shure.com). Look for the model e2c caps. I did not place my order yet but maybe I will... I can achieve quite a good fit with the standard apple caps. Anyway 10 caps for 11$ at sure.

But here come the best part. As the ear is quite close to the magnet in an in-ear bud, you ear quite a lot of hiss. But I saw on sure.com a "sound atenuator", which is simply pretty much an external volume control . I remember when I used my old Neo Jukebox, the sound output was very weak... Clear but weak... The best suggestion to better that was to plug in a volume control, set it to minimum volume, but crank the Neo volume at about 90% max. Day and night. Rich bass and crips trebles I now had.

See where I go? DO IT with your LD. Crank LD volume to 90%, trottle down the atenuator volume. I swear you never tought your LD sounded that good. ;). NO MORE HISSING! Sound is amazing!

Now I achieve better result still with an eq setting, but I have to tune down bass :D...

Quite honestly, It's a real shame that a $500 device even has a hiss. I'm so peeved about this that I'm thinking class action.

Oh well, got tired of fighting with it for music. Bought a 4gb nano ;).

Cheez, you brought back a quite old topic :P :D

Quite right, the infamous hissing. Got used to it (couldn't find a sound atenuator anywhere) and with the new EQ of TCPMP and a sony in ear EX71 sound is great.

Well........... They finally addressed one of the items on my wishlist with this RC version of TCPMP. Too bad they didn't include a gapless feature too.

I have to admit, once the music overwhelms the hiss, I'm pretty impressed with the audio quality of this proggie in comparison to Aeroplayer. The EQ is very well done. FWIW, I'm using it in conjunction with the long lost AAC plugin with outstanding results.

D@MN hiss, ruins my RW/PF/DG music. I sent a nasty-gram to Palm today about this. Don't expect anything from it however.

Every local electronic shops should have that.

If you can't find, shure.com has one (albeit a little pricey).

Look for "inline volume control" on google.

Cool they finally add an EQ to TCPMP? I probably will try it! The sound was already good (but IMO lacks bass)!

TCPMP RC1 has a built-in software attenuator too, although since the hiss is on the DSP, the attenuator doesn't fix it -- and if you drive the volume too high, the limiter becomes very obvious whenever strong bass beats or high notes are supposed to sound. Without the attenuator turned on, you get little pops though, so it's probably a good idea :)

Little pops in TCPMP? Whereabouts in your music? Is this new to you as of the new version?

FWIW, I have not noticed anything like this as of yet with my AAC enconded music.
