not quite a full review on the product just yet. But it's still interesting to read all the user comments on product even before the NZ90 has been released. If this is any indication of what the real reviews for the final product will be like, Sony is going to have a lot of bricks left in their warehouses.

Works for me! I might even weaken at $400, if my wife will take my NR70V as a peace offering.

Seriously, that is the best news I have heard. If the reveiws are bad and sales follow, I would imagine Sony would be forced to have a fire sale, in which case, I might consider buying, especially if the price is $300-$400.
The other thing it will probably due is light a fire under Sony to put out a new clie to make ends meet.
All in all, I bet this is just wishfull thinking. The price probably won't drop and the the device will probably get rave reviews.

Cnet is horribly pro-PPC anyway. Or am I the only one who noticed that?

Nice dream. I could see them lowering their price on this a year from launch; not much sooner (damnit) :)

Didn't we hear all these speculations about the NX?
I could put alot more faith in the CNET rating if it didn't come from a whopping 15 people.
i dont know yet what is written in the cdnet article. but indeed the the sony clie nz has still some features to have to be a great device for me. at least i miss the compact flash support!!!
without its almost worthless for me.

Just my 2c
I wouldn't take CNET's review to seriously. They show the Toshiba e740 PocketPC as the top PDA (highly recommended). Based partially on that recomendation i got my company to buy one and frustrated stopped using it after a month and a half (went back to Palm -> Clie NX70)
The system is more stable, batteries last longer and the thing is overall a LOT less annoying... but that's a topic for a different thread :) my point is that in that case CNET seems to be comparing "advertised" features as shown on the display box instead of how the unit actually works...
having said that... :)
I think that overall CNET's text review of the NZ90 is pretty good, the rating of 4.8 is primarily a rating of VALUE and with the thing being so expensive (as most SONY stuff) its no wonder it got such a low mark.

Well, sure, if they want to give it a 4.8 on value, mostly because of the high price tag, I understand...
But I'm sure that if they compared it's out-of-the-box features and strengths to other PDAs it would get one of the highest marks. Obvious weak points... the RAM and no CF / SDIO support.

CNet isn't known for giving out high value marks for any PDA priced over $300. The NX got a value rating of about 5.2, but CNet still gave it their highest rating of ANY PalmOS PDA ever released (including the Palm Vx!). In fact, the NX is the only PalmOS device ever to earn an editor's choice award from them.
If the NZ turns out to be worth $800 (as the NX turned out to be worth $600), it will still garner a great overall rating from them.

quote from cnet page"
"User recommendation:
52% Recommend, 48% Don't recommend (from 27 users)
Read user comments | Write your own review"
where did these 27 people get their NZ? i thought it wasn't coming out until february? oh wait, i think these sum it up:
" "REVIEW IT IF YOU HAVE USED IT" Anonymous on 21-Jan-2003 12:42:58 pm
please don't just diss this sony pda if you have not reviewed it yourself. Sure it is pricey, but make your comments relevant...800 dollars is too much don't buy it. You may not have 800 dollars to throw away at this, but others might... "
or this one
" "What's a user?" Anonymous on 17-Jan-2003 12:22:52 am
Notice none of the first dozen to review this device have actually used it? "

Here here. I agree. More RAM. But of course we all know that Sony wants to sell us more Memory Sticks instead.
Heck, even the Garmin iQue has 32MB (but the GPS probably demands it). But really, Sony should have a 64MB model to elevate the Palm device with the Windows PPC machines.
Can you imagine? 64MB built in on a Palm (Sony) device!! 64MB would go further on a Palm device than a PPC. Geez, remember the days when our desktop computers had 64MB?!!
C'mon Sony, more built in memory (with MS slot too of course!);)

I was the one of the one's complaining that how something could be rated before anyone had seen it in the flesh!

Could please anybody point me to the mentioned article on Cnet.
I give the NX60 a 9 out of 10, with the memory stick - and I would give it a 10 out of 10 only when I can use external memory, i.e. the MS just like internal memory and not have to worry apps versus databases, etc..... Hopefully the next palm OS will give us this ability - but for now, I really like my NX60

Seems like a lot are taking out there frustrations on Sony itself. Maybe Sony needs a rude awakening!

Oh - yeah. The incessant sound of a dozen idiots banging their spoons on their highchairs will no doubt convene an emergency board meeting at Sony to determine how to pacify them. Good thinking.
I have a better idea. Let's take these 12 angry men and give them all jobs at Sony! We'll call them the "marketing division" since obviously Sony doesn't employ one. They've only managed to get what now - 40% of the marketshare on PDA's? Must be pure horse$hit luck, right?
Only thing that needs an awakening are the people on here that start the same thread over, and over, and over, and over, and over and over again. You're the same ones that b*tched about the Nx and then proceeded to go out and buy one. Hypocrites.
Your act got lame and tired about 10 threads ago. Why not stick to the NZ fat jokes thread and give the rest of us a freaking break already?
edit: "your act" being the collective lot of you - not just one individual.

10 threads, how about 30 ? Most of the threads before the "Great Purge" were nothing but griping...

I just found out something. It wasn't a Great Purge. The server got bored to death supporting the same posts over and over and killed itself :D.
Prior to death, the server was heard to exclaim upon receiving another NZ fat post, "oh $hit - not him again" when it finally decided that death was preferable to giving these hypocrites a medium to whine, postulate, and post their "humour".
The fat jokes thread alone supports the theory that "simple minds are the easiest to occupy", but that's a whole 'nuther topic ;)
Now, if they could put 1 GB of memory in a Memory Stick, why are they still only putting 16 mb internally - MEMORY should be the 1st order of business - is this an OS5 problem (i.e. it will not recognize anything over 16 mb internally) - this is still a microsoft problem even with windows!
OH, but bottom line, no matter how cheap the NZ is, I will still wait my typical 12-18 months before I break down and get a new PDA - although I am starting to like some of the features of the NZ - who knows what features will be available 12-18 months from now - I'm wishing!!!

Yes, I believe it is a limitation in OS 5 :(.

The 16MB limit is a limitation of the PalmOS -- Garmin has already stated that they achieved 32MB in spite of the OS, not because of it. I would liken their solution to Sony's OS4 Hi-Res workaround...
Still, I think the chances of the next T and NX having 32MB are extremely high.
