Looks really nice, but I have 3 major concerns.
1. With the back covered, will heat be an issue?
2. Will the speaker be muffled since there are no speaker grill on the case?
3. Is the hinge fragile?
Other than that, it looks the least bulky of cases so far.

1. Unless you're running really HD-intensive tasks, the LD's HD doesn't get too hot anyway, so no.
2. A little bit. Only a problem if you use the speaker for an alarm clock and you are a very deep sleeper. But then, I though I was, and the LD still wakes me up.
3. I'm no expert in cases, but it seems pretty strudy to me. I would say it's the sturdiest case I've had since the titanium RhinoSkin case for my Handera 330.
And also, it's very slim. Adds slightly less bulk than the included case, feels sturdier, and allows device access without removing the screen.

What about the WiFi range when used in the hard case ?
Which material is the back made of, also aluminium ?
So far it really looks great.

If I do get one, I may modify it by machining in some holes where the speaker is. May help with heat dissipation and allow the sound to come through better. Care to try first :P

I found the signal strenght was reduced by about 10% when using the hard case.

The back of the case is made of a rubbery-feeling stiff plastic. It allows for less WiFi and BT interference.

Does the cover fold around to the back of the device? Being a lefty, I'm not sure this case will work well for me. I hate to spend $50 to find out.

I have a case on my LD and still use it for an alarm clock with 2PlayMe installed.
All you have to do is hook it up with a mini plug connector to a stereo (whether you have 2PlayMe or not) and set the volume on the stereo. If that won't wake you up, I don't know what else will. I have 2PlayMe wake me up every morning running through my Logitech THX speaker system in my bedroom with any wma or mp3 I have running through p-tunes. It works great!
2PlayMe is an app that allows you to set alarms using music files instead of the system alarms. It tells your installed music player software (p-tunes, aeroplayer, sony music player) to play the specified track. Volume has to be set in the player of choice, and then it's set. Has a kooky looking analog clock too, but I only use it for the alarms. It's fully functional unregistered and only costs $10 to buy.
P.S. Great looking case!
The only problem I ahve with the case is that fact that it is hard to open. You need to have nails! Otherwise it's a great case.
It is _really_ hard to open. No way it's a one hand usage case.
It is very nice and sturdy, and doesn't increase the overall size much at all. But just enough that you will notice the size/weight in a front pants pocket.
I had hoped the cover would work like the MessagePad 2k did where you could pull with your thumb on the hinge and the cover would slide out from under the latch and swing open. This lid/cover sits straight down into a groove about the outer edge. Very nice flush look that way - but still, very hard to get the lid open.

Doesnt provide much protection for a fragile HDD either.
Well, despite the fact that I refuse to run any hacks/rogue software to make sure I don't kill my HandHeld prematurely, I managed to drop my LD from 4 feet onto my cement garage floor. I had the Palm hard case on it, and it was off at the time, but it is indeed now dead. It won't turn on. When I apply external power, I see the White PalmOne screen for about one second, the Hard Disk spins up, clicks, then the LD shuts back down. It will repeat this as long as power is applied.

They are reporting over in the PPC forums that you can't even throw a LifeDrive out of a truck.

OH-NO!! If I drop my expensive/fragile electronic device, it might break?!!! Oh, woe is me?!!! I wanted to use it as a hockey-puck... You mean I can't treat my $500 electronic device like my stuffed animals from when I was a kid? Waah!!!

Oh no Joey, why did you answer then? <sarcasm off>
If you are not trying to protect your PDA, why get a hard case? You know, the very one you are discussing?

PDA breaks when dropped on cement floor!
In other news: The sun rose in the east, Democrats and Republicans couldn't agree on abortion, and the sky is still blue. More news as events warrant
Sheesh Surur if your PDA survives a fall of four feet to concrete floor consider yourself lucky.

Anywho checked the routing on my hard case. It wasn't lost in Albequerque it spent four wonderful days in Ohio. Now it's in Dallas for who knows how long.

I purchased this case yesterday at Staples and I must say it's very, very cool. If you have a LD, go get this case. I'm not normally a PDA case guy either.

So take it out of your pocket before you play rugby.
The point of a case, usually, is to protect it from the sorts of things a PDA is likely to suffer while in a pocket-- pressure, scratches (both on the screen, especially), occasionally bumping into something.
Cases can be made that will make a device nigh invulnerable, but they tend to be way too big for a pocket-- I'm thinking about the original Rhino-Skin aluminum and Ti sliders. They were huge and bulky and over kill for most people. Though one kept my Visor quite safe.

I second that -- I unintentionally field-tested my TJ37 innoPocket aluminum case by forgetting it was in my pocket and going snowboarding. The TJ37 still performs and functions today without a scratch (from that incident). It's nice to know that it can take a ~200lb impact when I fell, but I'm leaving my dear TH55 at home or in the car for stuff like this. I have an OtterBox now to protect valuables now.

It finallly came today! Took long enough.
I like it a lot. Lightweight & thinner than the case it came with. Only thing that I'd like different is the top is entirely open. Good for access bad for scratches.

I have the leather case by PalmOne and I have noticed that my Lifedrive slips out of real easy. It is a nice case except for that "minor" problem. Fortunately the only time it has fallen it was on the carpet but still added gray hairs to my already grey head!
My question is is the Lifedrive secure in the metal case or any others? Sure don't want to drop it when I am out and about!!

Is it necessary to lock the power switch while inside the hard case like it is necessary with the bundled leather case ?
No. You don't need to lock your LD in the 'off' mode. The hard-case is rigid enough (unlike the included soft-case) to prevent pressure on the buttons. I've had mine for over a week now, and I've been very happy with it. Switch it off, close the lid, and I'm done.

The LD is very secure in the hard case. It is not possible for it to slip out. In fact, it is a bit difficult to remove from the case.

It is not necessary to use the lock switch while in the hard case. I tried to push on the cover, but it was not possible to activate any of the buttons or the D-pad with the hard case cover closed.

Wow i'm quite puzzled... My LD was way more secure in the stock case than in my P1 Hardcase. In fact, if I shake my LD in the hardcase head down, it will come out quite too easily to my tastes. Any idea how to strenghten the hold? It's my understanding that it's just the 2 rubber pads at the top of the case that prevent it from slipping out...

Ordered my case from Amazon on the 12th, and according to them, it wont get here until the 25th! What kind of astronomically slow shipping is that!?!?!?
Oh, and...
I've noticed a problem with the included case... Even when the LifeDrive unit is in the locked position, the damn buttons on the front can still turn it on, it just turns on in the case and displays a message that it is locked...
That is partially the reason why I ordered a hard case....
That and, I had to buy a LD to replace my Tungsten|E after it suffered an untimely death due to screen breakage in a soft case... So I'm a little paranoid about the screen now.

You have understood correctly. I lost the little rubber pads after the first two weeks or so and replaced them with a couple of small clear bumbers that I found at a craft store. Until I got my case, they provided better skid performance and now they are keeping my LD in the case.
BTW, there is an easy way to use the LD with the T5 cradle without having to remove the LD from the hardcase. Just pop off the clear plastic piece from the cradle and cover the lights with black electrical tape. It doesn't really look that bad, and it is a lot easier than taking the LD out of the case when you want to sync.
