I would like to purchase a memory stick for a Sony Clie SL10. I am rather new to the world of PDA's and would appreciate some help. I found a site: http://www.memorysuppliers.com/memorystick.html that has a 32 meg Lexar memory stick for $19.00. The same site has a 16 meg Lexar memory stick for $19.00! They seem to have the same specifications. What should I look for before puchasing a memory stick?
Any help would be appreciated.
P.S. (sorry, I don't know how to make the site a hypertext)

32 mb is more than enough for a b/w clie !!

I would like to respectfully disagree with the above post. I don't think the amount of memory is connected to the color of the screen. It obviously is connected to what you plan on putting on the card. I had a 128 mb Compact Flash card in my Visor Deluxe (a simple b/w screen with Palm OS 3) and occasionally had to move off data to make room for other data.

Think about the what you plan on placing onto the card. You'll want to do backups of your internal memory (8 mb for your SL10), keep all of your ebooks, maybe have a bible or 2 (I have 9 free ones on mine), how about pictures (you do have a good 320x320 screen to display them even if they are in b/w), you may use a launcher and move many of your applications to the card, you may also have large databases that you need to store on the card and finally you may want to store regular PC files (that have nothing to do with your Clie) on the card to make them transportable.

Don't under estimate the size of the card just based on the type of screen you have. Buy what you can afford and think ahead of what you KNOW you will be using it for and what you MIGHT use it for.

Thanks hodson,

Do you have any idea why a 32 meg memory stick and a 16 meg memory stick would have the same price? I was going to purchase from the Internet today, but I am not sure if there are certain specifications I have to look for. Most of what I have has been donated, so I don't want to be remiss with the funds. The address for the site is: http://www.memorysuppliers.com/memorystick.html
Thank you again!

I'm sorry, I don't know why they are priced this way. It may have something to do with the manufacturer's. One is a Sony, and one is a Lexar. I wish I could answer that question. Someone else on this forum probally will post an answer soon.

Hi srjeannine,

I purchased the Clie SL10 back in Nov of last year. I keep finding more uses for it every day.

As Soon as I started to load programs from the WWW for the Clie I saw that I would do well by getting a memstick. So, I purchased a 128MB Lexar memstick for $35.00 delivered from Buy.com. It works great. I also purchased a reader for the memstick so I could connect the memstick directly to my lap top as well as the computer of others. I paid 9.00 for the reader. It connects to the USB port on my computer. This way I get double duty from the memstick.

Using the memstick import program on the SL10, I put many of my work and home files on the memstick using the CLie Sl10 as the reader. Now that I have 128MB, I have a lot of room for Palm OS programs and Micro Soft data.

As far as I have been able to tell anything can be stored on the card but not every think will execute directly from the card. Some programs do not function correctly when run from the memstick. For example, I have not been able to get Mobireader to work. I read that MS mount may fix this problem.

In any case, I like the added memory and storage. Good luck, think big - you will find a good use for the extra memory.

Regards,

Tony

Hi srjeannine,
I find the MS 128 very convenient for my SJ30, I had it for a few months now and still use it as my storage disk, it is a matter of preference on what you would like to buy, but I found it at ecost.com , they sell the Lexar 128mb for $50 with a $15 mail in rebate, I also saw last week that the Lexar 256 mb is selling for $90, I don't know too much about the later, but I use the 128mb for my camera and pda, I hope that will give you some more info to make your choice a little easier.

Thank you all for your help. I will probably purchase the memory stick for storage purposes.

P.S. hudson, I would love to know where you got your FREE bibles for the PDA!

Though there are a few Bible's for the PalmOS out there, I enjoy the one found at http://www.olivetree.com because of the long list of free bibles. They do have many other bibles that you can pay for but the free ones can be found at http://www.itb.net/handheld/free/index.html

Another reason I like this program is that I can put the bibles on my Memory card so it doesn't fill up my internal memory.

A "con" for this program is that the NIV bible is unavailable. I know of only one program that carries the NIV and that will cost you $40!!

http://www.asaisoft.com/
It also has a few free bible files, and NIV version costs US$18. The best thing about this bible reader is that you can have 'dual display' to compare two version of bible files side by side.

Right now, amazon.com sells Lexar memory stick 128 MB at US$47 before $15 mail-in rebate. Free shipping too. Check it out.

As a former registered user (I bought the NKJV) of the OliveTree program, I can say that $40 is well worth the cost of the MyBible program. It is by far the best out there, with a much better UI (user interface). Moving around (verse to verse, chapter to chapter) is very intuitive and FAST. Searches allow wildcards, and multiple words. It’s just a better program in every aspect.

My advice would be to give each a try before buying. You have the OliveTree link in a previous post. Here’s the MyBible link: http://www.laridian.com/palm/infomybible.asp

To keep on track with this thread – I too agree that the size of memory stick should tie in to USAGE, not type of screen. I have 3 Bible versions loaded on my MS (about 1.4MB each) as well as A LOT (20MB +) of Mapopolis maps on there too. I also keep several commentaries (Doc / QuickWord format) loaded on the stick. I have about 8MB free on my SJ20, and less than 64MB on the MS.

Get a 64 or 128 MS, you won’t regret it – especially since the prices have come way down since I bought mine.  :-)

a can only add that even having 64mb memory card will after a while look insufficient
on my present 64 MB card i have only 300KB left !
i have 30MB of dictionaries for roadlingua there, couple of backups of ram and some doc/xls/pdfs and some palp appz of course .. and as palmgeek said you won't regret buying bigger MS ..
bottom line=> don't buy any memory stick under 64mb ..

I have a MS now and when it installed it created a directory for ZLancher and one called PROGRAMS. I put some .BMP images on the MS with MS import and Explorer and then draged them to the BackImage button. The files were copied to the Theme manager and are visable on preview. When I select them I receive a message, "such and so image.BMP is not available." I have the images in the PROGRAMS/ZLancher/Backimages directory. The Clie created the ZLancher under programs the second time I turned it one with the MS. There is still a ZLauncher folder under the Palm directory.
Can someone help with what the next step would be. I know from reading threads that the directory set-up is important. Why are the images viewable but not selectable?
Thanks
