As the new owner of an NX and Sony Lan Card, what are you guys and gals using the lan card for and which browser and email programs do you find work best?

I have a laptop w/ wifi, so I use my NX when I don't wanna fireup my laptop. I use IM, email and Netfront to browse. I think the most under-rated, least discussed feature of the NX is it's integrated programs. The digicam and voice recorder programs are integrated with Cliemail, and links in Cliemail will go directly to the site thru Netfront. I like being able to snap and email.

If you are fortunate to have mail service that is compatible with ClieMail, and are able to send & receive mail using your wifi connection, the digicam and voice recorders programs allow you to email from the point of capture. You can also send from ClieViewer, captured images, movies and sound files. All these programs are supplied on the Clie or can be installed from the CD. ClieMail also will startup Netfront if your mail contain links you click on.

Netfront browsing can also allow you to download files to you MS-even zipped files that can be unzipped using 3rd party utilities.

An IM program will allow you to stay connected to friends and family without your computer. There is a powersave mode for the WL100 that allows for reduced power usage, but adequate performance for IM programs-so far this is the only practical use I have found for powersave mode.

To get all these capabilities requires some working knowledge of your ISP modem/wifi router settings. This site is the next best thing to having a personal IT department-very helpful people here. I've read recently about some Sony utility software that works as a wizard to help setup wifi connections. I don't know how helpful it is though.

Agin thank you for your information. I pulled out my Clie CD and installed both the ClieMail and the Netfront. This after deleting some other files to make room. ClieMail is showing up in my launcher but Net Front is only visual in the information stream, is this normal? ClieMail look easy to set up.

Yes, I have found the people on the boards very helpful even to a novice like me. This board has added greatly to making my Clie's, I went from an NR to an NX, enjoyable.

..........don't know what you mean by "information stream" Netfront should be in the launcher if install was good. I do know it must be installed with at least 6megs free.

By information stream, I mean the Menu option which lists the information about the installed programs, version, size, records. It shows 2044K for NetFront3_inst. Probably should delete and try to reinstall.

I was able to connect and get some email.

don't forget wireless hotsync! I also found that the wireless AvantGO update is handy. AvantGo menu > Modem Sync.

I tried reinstalling Netfront and it still is not showing up in the Laucher list. Any more ideas.

Did you free up at least 6MB of memory first? You need at least that much free memory to upload Netfront (even though it only takes up 2MB)

Yes, you need at least 6mb for it to install itself.

Why using Netfront when you can use PocketLink (http://www.mdevelop.com) , which is much faster and less memory consume.

I installed PowerLink and got a Fatal error message! Does it work with OS5? Memory is always a problem. How about Advantgo, is it a memory hog. I have used it in the past on Palm devices.

Actually the new beta of avantgo is quite good. Not only did they make it hi-rez but it is FULL SCREEN ! The biggest feature is the ability to store the downloaded pages on the card rather than memory. this allow me to have a full 2meg of web pages....

So far quite good.....

Thanks, I just order the bigger Memory Stick, the duo sided one, not a Pro, so I will try the Avantgo.
