I began work on this near the end of January, and it sat around 99% finished for more than two months before I finally got around to adding the finishing touches. I started with the backimage and liked the scheme so I went with it and this is what I ended up with. After several years with the Sony Clie the time came to finally purchase a Palm Handheld. I recently picked up the T|X and got to work immediately on skinning the Palm DIA. Pictured above is my first attempt. After digging around the web for a few weeks, I came across DomG's TT3 Skinlayout Maker utility, which allowed me to follow in the footstep's of Velo and Mythomania in creating a dramatically enhanced DIA skin! Alex Pruss' release of MySkin 1.80 gives the skinmaker the ability to include the wifi portions of the status bar skin, which is definitely very cool! Skinning the DIA is ambitious on the level of creating ZLauncher skins. With the Wifi resources included, the skin boasts a whopping 244 individual images, and this after removing several resources not used by the T|X. With all these resources stored in one folder with no outstanding naming conventions, decyphering which icon does what is extremely time consuming. The T|X Horizons DIA/Wifi skin with Extended Keyboard and Number Pad is freeware and available for download (http://www.1src.com/freeware/fileinfo.php?id=1835) here in the Freeware section, enjoy!


2/28/07: Updated to v2.2. Portrait view keyboard Space Bar issue and other minor bugs fixed.

9/3/06: Updated to version 2. Update Description:
- Greatly modified 2-Cell DIA areas (more alien and sci-fi looking)
- Modified 3-Cell areas.
- Modified Number Keyboard layout.
- Fully skinned DIA popup dialog (formerly unskinned, requiring SkinUI or PalmRevolt)
- New "Web" button feature throughout the various layouts.
- New "Brightness" button feature throughout.
- Added the "power off" and "hotsync" buttons to portions of the layouts where they were previously missing.
- Sharper "glass" effects throughout.

Celebrating the release of SkinUI 2, here is the first of my older SkinUI skins to receive an update. COOL WATER PROJECT:

Cool Water was another project which grew into something much larger than I anticipated. I enjoyed working with the shiny blue color's enough to apply them to applications I don't even use, such as FacerPro, Megalauncher and Wassup. It was during this project that I became impressed with the functionality of Megalauncher and came close to dumping ZLauncher. But alas, once you've tasted the best...

Cool Water for Pocket Tunes

Skins for Pocket Tunes are exhausting! A lot of work goes into creating the graphics, then twice as much work goes into integrating the graphics into the code to make the skin function. There's lots of room for creativity, which is fantastic, but time consumption becomes an issue! PT Cool Water is available for download over at Pocket-tunes.com (http://www.pocket-tunes.com/skins/graphic/ptcoolwater.shtml) and here in the Freeware (http://www.1src.com/freeware/fileinfo.php?id=1837) section. PT Cool Water features a native anti-aliased font (thanks to Ray Larabie) for devices utilizing Alex Pruss' excellent Fontsmoother utility. The skin rotates and can be used with 320x320 devices.

A far cry from what it was originally, this is my first skin, ZL Stones. It went through a complete overhaul to bring it up to speed with ZLauncher 5. The overhaul resulted in a new backimage, new title bar, bottom bar, toolbar, resized and smoothed buttons, signal strength indicators and plugin panels. The skin also pays homage to the late "Old Man on the Mountain" of Franconia Notch, New Hampshire. Thanks much! I find it more fun working from scratch, certainly more challenging, although occasionally it's fun to tinker with other people's work too. I've learned quite a lot collaborating with others here at ClieSource...er, I mean 1src. :)

Any of the launcher skins should work if the launcher works on your device. For Zlauncher, there are separate OS5HI and Clie specific skins.

The VG skins are all for Clie devices only. I have yet to tackle a DIA skin (mostly because I've never owned a non-clie Palm device).

For an answer to this question, I suggest posing the question in the
Palmpowerups (http://www.palmpowerups.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=1) forums. I can tell you, the compiler is simple to work with, and free and you really only need photoshop or the gimp or paint shop pro to work with the graphics.

95% of the work is in the graphics creation/editing. If you know a thing or two about making a graphic in photoshop, you're pretty much all set! If not, try experimenting or picking up a photoshop how-to book.

Thanks for the response Filber :) I'm pretty familiar with using Gimp and I found the compiler on PalmPowerups - unfortunately the compiler is .exe format which means it will not run on my computer (I'm using KDE - Linux) I'm thinking of adding a dual boot or maybe WINE, so I might be able to use it later.

Or maybe if I edited the bitmaps I could zip everything up again and someone running Windoze could compile it for me?

Hi,

Welcome to 1src. To use many of the skins that you will need the following programs, which not only allow for skinning but for greatly increasing functionality.

- ZLauncher (www.palmgear.com)
- myKbd/mySkin (www.palmgear.com)
- PalmRevolt or SkinUI (www.palmgear.com/www.palmpowerups.com)

ZLauncher is a replacement for the Palm launcher, which greatly increases functionality. mySkin allows for changing of the DIA and Status Bar at the bottom of the screen. myKbd, by the same author, provides all of the functionality of mySkin plus the ability to use varying keyboards and macros.

PalmRevolt is a UI skinning application.

SkinUI, a competitor of PalmRevolt, is actually much more mature that Palm Revolt with its latest 2.0 release. The choice here is really a matter of preference...

I've sent a message to PalmGear about the issue. With Internet Explorer I've noticed that if I hit the "Download" button at the "preparing to download" screen, then I only get a blank screen. I have to click the yellow security bar when it pops up on the screen and "allow" the download, and the download begins immediately.

I've confirmed the problem with PalmGear with both IE and Firefox. PalmGear's tech support is looking into the problem. If you try to download with the "download" button, thus bypassing the 4-5 second wait at the "preparing to download" screen, you get only a white screen and no download.
