I don't think there's anything for OS 2 that will let you do anything with Word files. The thing only has 1 meg of RAM, so even if Docs to Go would run on it, it wouldn't leave you room for much else.

For apps, try searching PalmGear. They might still have some old stuff. I think I even have some ancient Palm apps on my computer at home.

FreewarePalm will likely have some stuff too ;)

You'll have a hard time 'tho; Most programs need PalmOS3 as a minimum...

Take a look at the Palm download section (http://www.download.com/Palm-OS/2001-2008_4-0.html?tag=dir) of CNet. They allow you to filter by what Palm OS you want. A fair amount of OS 2 compatible software shows up.

Yep, I'll do that (zip), if I can get my wife away from the computer long enough :p

I always found ebooks hard to read on a small screen. That being said you may want to try out TiBR from
inDev Software (http://indevsoftware.com/). Alot is going to depend on what format the ebook is in. A good place to get free ebooks is at Memoware (http://memoware.com/).

Or what about Plucker. I can remember that it works on OS2-but without Zlib support. Or what about an OS3 upgrade card?

Yeah!
You'd be surprised - Monochrome LCD screens are generally a lot easier to read in a given lighting condition.

Some people think that 160^2 screen will be too small, but in actualy physical terms it's BIGGER than modern screens (You need 4 pixels in HiRes to make something the same size as 1 pixel of a LoRes screen).

You don't get any of the fancy curvy fonts or antialiasing, but the text is clear enough to read.

I must admit, for reading in bed, an old indiglo-backlit mono-LCD is a lot easier on the eyes than the harsh cathode backlights in colour LCDs, even on their lowest brightness!

well now it seems to be giving me hard resets every so often, not whil im using it, but when its sitting there, i go to start it back up and it does the digitizer calibration thing again, i think it might be from my cell or from my cordless phone, theyre both within 1 foot of it during a period of time, then i go to use it and its reset, i know its not the PDA it self because its mint

well ive now figured it out, it has some sort of short in the case aroun the bottom and power button, so if i press anywhere near the power button on the case it will turn it off, i guess even more pressure for an extended period of time would make it reset because of no power or something, well now it works fine i just cant hold it by that side

yep, that's the caveat. PPCs with QVGA may have less pixels, but some models feature bigger screen sizes making them not half bad for reading. I also remember that some monochrome pOS PDAs have bigger screens than color ones. I remember my Visor/Neo, despite being an ugly grayscale screen at low-res at the very least had a noticeably bigger screen than the older Palm Inc. grayscale models. This was actually a selling point for the Visors :)

As for games, try any game by N.I. Games. Especially the freeware ones since they're... well... free. Many of his games are original and fun in gameplay. They're small 15 to 80KB each and offer B&W and even 4 shades of gray for color modes. This dev is among the few who really caters to old time Palm users (nothing personal against u of course)

Hawkeye, it isn't very difficult to open the Pro and see if you can find the short. There are screws visible on the back of the case, there's one in the battery compartment (I think), and one under the label on the back, but if I remember right they're Phillips (you may need a jeweler's screwdriver set). Maybe a little electrical tape will cure the problem and make it truly "mint."

My wife still (sometimes) uses my old Pro. It was pretty good for e-books, and the battery life was unbelievable on those old units.

yeah ive really got it working great now, the resetting has gone away for the most part, i just cant press really hard on the case

$13 isnt bad for a Palm Pro, even if it needs a little work. I would definately open it up and check it out, I am sure that it is probably pretty easy to fix. I remember taking my first Palm Pro apart a long time ago, there wasnt much to it, especially compared to the newer models on the market, they have managed to cram even more stuff into a an even smaller space.
