Guys,

Since the VZ-90 is a japanese model, I assume that you all know about ATOK.

I plan on buying a Life Drive, and want to intall ATOK on it. I went on the Just Systems ite, and I realized that there is no way to purchase the program, just an upgrade for people who already own an old Clie.

The only thing that I can do now if find some way to obtain the ATOK files from someone who owns a japanese Clie. If any of you guys can help me do this, it would be greatly appreciated. (I could even fix you up with some hot chick if you ever visit Montreal, just to thank you. ^_- )

If I can't get ATOK on the Life Driv, I will have no other choice but to get a PPC. I like Palm, but it's become a second rate product since Sony's departure from the market.

Thanks in advance guys.

ATOK won't work without some kind of japanese language OS like using JOS by Hacker Dude-san. Check his site to see if JOS for the life drive has been finished yet and then to see if ATOK can be installed.

I have already written to Yamada-san, and he is about to finish J-OS for the Life Drive. But I already have CJKOS and Japon installed, so I don't need J-OS. I need ATOK, or any other japanese handwriting recognition software.

I also already know that ATOK works on the Life Drive (from japanese users whose e-mails I don't have). No problem there. The problem is where can I get ATOK? I went on the Just Systems site, and they say that they only sell it to people who have Clies. So I am looking for the Clie files everywhere. I would pay 200$ for ATOK if I could buy it, but it seems that I just can't.

This is the whole Picsel Viewer/Browser problem all over again. Hopefully I will be able to fix this new problem as well. If anyone here knows their way with ATOK on a Palm device, please let me know, okay? Otherwise I will just have to buy a nice VGA PPC.

Thanks in advance.

Well, as far as I know ATOK is an IME method -- to get full Japanese operability on PalmOS you need both the program that'll display it (CJKOS, J-OS) and a program that'll help you input it. I've tried both, and I was more impressed with J-OS becuase of it's documentation and it's IME -- the CJKOS IME only allows you to input hiragana, while J-OS's allows kanji, hiragana, katakana. To get kanji to work in CJKOS IME, you need to know Chinese and know ahead of time which kanji needs to appear which is a huge minus, I think.

Unfortunately, at the moment : I don't see LifeDrive support for neither CJKOS or J-OS -- since the LifeDrive is a fresh device that just came out, you might have to wait a bit for OS 5.4 support. Yes, true you might get better Japanese support on a VGA PPC as they've been around a tad longer then the LifeDrive. Questionable software support is unfotunately the side effect of buying the latest and the greatest.

Hope this helps.
