Hey guys! I'm relatively new to the PC audio world, and am wondering what I can get. I'm looking for a very decent to high-quality set of speakers for my PC - I do a lot of music listening, movie watching, and game playing. I need something that sounds GREAT. But, I have a budget. :( :p Anything that I can get new/like new refurbed for around $40 and still get great quality (eBay okay.) I've read good stuff about the Logitech Z-640, but also know that it skimps on the midrange - not good...

-Audio: SB Audigy 2
-Video: nVidia gForce FX 5200
-Intel P4...(the PC was made for me - ya, call me a wimp... :p)

Any help I can get would be much appreciated...anything $60 or below should be fine. Thanks in advance!

Also, happy to provide any info at all required.

Edit: Oh,and it's not gonna take much to impress me. I want GOOD speakers, but GOOD might mean something different to me than you - I'm using the standard DELL speakers that came with my compy right now. :p

Second edit: PC details updated.

I've had a pair of Yamaha powered speakers on my system for a few years now. Quite nice for the size and $$ (got 'em as a giveaway but I'm sure they're in your price ballpark). There's even a hi-fi with smaller B&Ws in the same room to compare it with, and it still sounds pretty decent for whatever will come out of a PC or Mac. In fact, had I been able to figure out how to do the speaker/RCA conversion, I might have used them as rear speakers for my HT. Anyway, they should be pretty reasonably priced used.

If you can get a set of Logitech Z-3's are good and you can get them new for about $55. Not much more than your alloted budget.

Figure out what you need first and you'll have a much easier time in choosing your speakers. Do you really need 7.1 dts speakers, or are regular stereo speakers good enough? Are you going to use the speakers with other systems such as a gaming console or home theater? Are you going to have room for subwoffers or multiple speakers? I've bought a pair of $20 speakers from walmart and they work perfectly for me.

Thanks, guys!

I actually was given an Altec Lansing speaker system. It's not brand new, but it sounds AWESOME! I've got the two Altec Lansing satellites hooked up as the front L & R speakers and the AL subwoofer also hooked up. My original two Dells are serving as the L & R rear speakers. I've got my own 5.1 system! lol

Actually, I know I'd need a middle front for a true 5.1, but the 5.1 setting in the Creative SB Audigy panel works for me - it gives perfect surround & separate channels.

P.S. - Halo in surround sound rocks! :p
