Hi,
I currently have a UX50 Clie and just received a 256Mb Memory Stick Pro (MSX-256S). My Clie doesn't recognize the card so therefore won't let me format it or anything.
I'm fairly new to the PDA game, so I don't really know what to do in order to get my Clie to recognize this memory stick. I've read about upgrading something on the Clie to recognize this memory stick, but am unsure of what to do.
Any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thx,
Nick

Do you know what format it's in? Unless you have the FAT32 patch, you can only access MS that have been formated in FAT16. You can re-format it through your computer or even through Clie Files (in the drop-down menu).

When you say it doesn't recognise it, do you mean not at all? You don't even get the little tone when you insert it??
If you have a MS card reader, I'd recommend testing it in that...

Do you know if the memory stick is a good one, ie, has it been used in other devices and worked. The UX50 will recognize MS Pro sticks right out of the box with no problems (up to 2gb, that is). If you have access to a computer with the ability to read memory sticks, that is the best way to test it. I would try formatting it and seeing if it recognizes it. Also, have you used other memory sticks in the UX before? There is an outside chance that it may be the problem.

Thanks for all of the responses...
Yes, I have used memory sticks in my UX50 before, no problems there. I tried popping the stick of 256Mb MSPro in my Sony digital camera and the camera wouldn't let me format it either. I took it to the local Sony Store and they couldn't figure it out either. Must be a faulty stick of memory...
So on to my next question, I take it that I should be able to use any Memory Stick Pro up to 2GB? Is that correct? Please let me know of any patches that I need to put on the UX50 and where I might get them.

2gb is the official limit for the CLies and most Palm PDAs. Nothing is needed to use those sticks. The new LifeDrive has a program in it that allows the memory to access more than that. Someone has hacked it and there is a post or two about it somewhere on the forum. It allows the use of the 4gb memory sticks but there are some limitations. Do a search for 4gb memory sticks and you should find it.

Get them from Ebay, I think they are cheapest. (Buy new units since they come with 5years of warranty.)
I'm using 2GB MS Pro without any problems and I also use 4GB MS Pro Ultra II with FAT32 driver installed.
(4GB MS Pro and FAT32 may cause some apps a problem.)

Much thanks for all of the responses. I'm on eBay as we speak...er...type looking for a 2GB MSPro card.
Cheers,
Nick
