klee-ay

I usually describe it as a "Sony Palm Pilot" - since pronouncing it "Klee" gets me funny looks and "Klee-ay" makes me sound snobbish! :)
Perhaps it's my accent!

But most of the time, people think the Sony device is a PPC ... so a "Sony Palm Pilot" keeps the definition pretty clear!

It's not french, but it is pronounced klee-ay(the T615's demo had a voice that would say 'Clie by Sony'). If anything, it is English, like all Sony's acronyms(or would that be Japanese, seeing it's a Japanese company creating the word).

Clie is actually 'Communication Link Information Entertainment'.

This question comes up so often that it should be in some sort of FAQ. Moderators?

Why do you say its french? If you pronounce it as if it where spanish then you get the same result (klee-ay). But if it is 'Communication Link Information Entertainment' why is it that they accent the e?

See you

It is Clié (klee-ay) dammit. It is the way Sony wants it pronounced(again, see the T615 demo). It means 'Communication Link Information Entertainment' because all Sony created words are acronyms for something.

From one of the lost posts(god rest their souls):

-CLIE: Communication Link, Information, Entertainment.

-VAIO:stands for Video Audio Integrated Operations.
The VAIO logo is an analog waveform (VA) followed by a binary 10 (IO) symbalizing the integration of analog and digital.

-AIBO: The name "AIBO" comes from the words,
A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) + robot (or BOT). "AIBO" also has an "eye" (homonym of A.I.). The word "aibou" is also the word for "partner" or "pal" in Japanese.

Sony, itself is an acronym for something, but I can't remember what exactly at the moment.

I pronounce it klee-ay. Even though it is a acronym it is odd to add the accent mark. Maybe they wanted to help people with the pronunciation. ;)

Course I usually just call it a palm, which is kinda odd since I have never owned a true Palm PDA. Guess it just stuck from when I used the USR Palm Pilot Pro.

Sony: Simply Owns Nothing, Yet. Course that was when they first started. :)

In the South, we pretty much trample the English language, so French words don't stand a chance! :D Sometimes we add syllables where they don't belong, so removing one here seems fair! :D I call mine a CLEE!

I tend to pronounce it "Damn the new memory sticks won't work!!"

Your use may vary.
