My internal memory on my NZ is full. What's the best compression utility? can the programs that are permanently stored in ROM be compressed as well?

No, you cannot touch the ROM apps, nor will you be able too.
You can use JackFlash beta v3.0 which gives 3mb addtional to store some apps in flash ROM.

You can also use PowerRun and move some apps to the memory stick like most of us have.

Powerrun is a great program and I highly recommend it (if you have a ms).

I too would recommend PowerRun and JackFlash, by combining both you can squeeze a lot of apps into the CLie.
I have currently 5 megs avail. on my RAM and 6Megs on a 128Mb stick :)

Lightnzip is the best compression program.

Or for free you can just copy the offending programs to a memory stick and free up some memory. This is not the best solution but it does work. I like using JackFlash and putting some progs on the MStick...

I believe you can only get the new BETA if you are a registered user already. I think you have to 'buy it'..... and then once they have the updates of your registrations completed on their web-site (up to a day or 2 in length) you can go and get the beta from their website.

I am confused as how the NZ90 and JackFlash work together. Does anyone in here actually have this configuation and does it work. I ask because of this ...
JackFlash makes this statement on their site ...
" ... JackFlash works by giving you access to the extra Flash ROM space available on most Palm devices."
On the other hand a query to FlashPro customer support got this reply.
"Sony sector protects any free flash memory on their devices. This makes them not compatible with FlashPro."
So ... if Sony protects the free flash memory on their devices ... how does JackFlash access it?
Cheers ...
Jerry
I guess it still writes to that area, having a software which can update a palmtop is nothing new, they all write to this area, JackFlash just write to the reserved area - and write YOUR apps instead of the apps which Sony might put there in the future. Chances are you never will need this space as some European users have reported less than 1 meg of free FLASH, compared to my US clie with about 3.4 meg of free flash, simply because it did not come with multible languages in FLASH.

I have Jackflash and it works... Technically, I don't know... It works! The US NZ has around 3.4megs of available flash RAM and as the Sony patches just reside in regular RAM, why not use the flash for my stuff?
