Finally can't resist the seductive nature of the 4GB storage space. I'm converted from TH55.

Wonder if someone has a solution to get Picsel Viewer to work in full screen mode in the LifeDrive. I can only get the Picsel Viewer to work with the silkscreen on.

Thanks.

Picsel Browser works on the Life Drive, I tried and I got no problem :)
To have the full screen thing, you have to use Code Diver.
However, as Picsel Browser (Perhaps Picsel Viewer ?) does not appear in Code Diver aplications list, you have to create a shortcut to Picsel Browser.
You can either use Zlauncher to create a shortcut (see there (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88200&page=2&pp=15) ) or Power Run there (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88200&page=3&pp=15) .

lmame,

(Revons toujours!)

Merci d'avance pour tes conseils!

I reply in english also ;)

English part:
There's a link in the begining of the thread (from Dmitry), and an english translation nearly the end of the thread ;)
Picsel Browser is more advanced than Picsel Viewer.

In case anybody wants a translation... :D

lmame,

Say, do you know the difference between Picsel Viewer and Picsel Browser? I have the former, but I'm looking for the latter everywhere. I know it's a new version that was "stolen" from a Chinese telephone, but all the download links were removed before I could try them.

I could always be satisfied with Picsel Viewer...while waiting for Palm to license browser...or for Sony to come back into the market with a Cobalt device. (We can always dream!)

Thank you in advance for your help!

This is really great! Thanks to all the info in the thread you linked here I have PicselBrowser running smoothly on my LifeDrive and fullscreen. The only thing I've noticed is that it doesn't seem to support Java. Rollovers don't trigger, and on pages where there are links to open content in a new browser page they just go nowhere. Both Blazer and Netfront will open that content into the current page.

With all the tinkering that went on to get this to work on devices it wasn't intended for, one has to wonder if the same developmental effort could be focused on Netfront 3.1. The combination of PicselBrowser and Netfront running on a LifeDrive would make a very complete web browsing experience. Maybe sounds greedy of me, but it's just a LifeDrive pipedream.

Excellent work by everyone who put this together. Really wonderful.

Yes, it runs on my Lifedrive too, but not in fullscreen. I am using the latest version of codediver, but the problem is, that in the App-List of Codediver, the Picsel-viewer is not present!
Has anyone an idea what to do?

Forget Picsel... Get Repligo v2.0... For reading documents, I can't think of a better app....

Michael,
Yes, Repligo is what I was looking for.
Can it open large e-books (say 400 pages)
Piscel Viewer will reset LD upon loading big documents
Thanks

Not sure... It can handle a 50 page document without any problem.... Lemme try it out and I'll let you know.

Just to let you know, I just tried a 768 page Word file (file size 2MB after conversion) without any problems at all.

Hello, help for a new member please,

Can someone post a step by step guide to getting picsel broswer to work on the lifedrive. It sounds like a killer app but i'm having no luck at all in trying to get it to run.

Many thanks

Hi Imane, have been reading this thread with great interest and enjoying picsel on my my lifedrive. I can't get codedriver to work with full screen though - it shows up in the app list but when i try to click on virtualsilk i get the message "longwise mode not available on this model" . I'm using version 1.02.

Any suggestions as to where i'm going wrong?

Edit - d/loaded the beta version and now working fine.

@Ukdoc, you need to use the latest version which is V1.1Beta8 (see here (http://www.jade.dti.ne.jp/~imazeki/palm/cDiv/index-e.html))

My problem is that I get the "insufficient RAM" error even with documents that are only 1.8mb large (PDF). Anyone have any hints as to what I may be doing wrong? I am using the English .prc from here (http://www.s1mps.plus.com/dmitrygr/Picsel%20Browser/expanded%20files/)

If I can solve this issue of viewing large PDF files in native form (without the need to reflow) the LD really starts to become a really handy portable knowledge base.

Thanks for the tip. I downloaded the files but they refuse to hotsync onto the handheld. Do they have to be installed onto a card or something directly. I have gone from a NZ90 to a Treo 650 - which I believe is OS 5.4.x?

Michael,
Thank you for your testing it out.

David Sydney - yes, you need to install to a SD card. You can then use Zlanucher (as described by other posters) to create a Short Cut for CodeDiver and move the Picsel app to RAM. BUT be aware, I was playing around trying to fix my "not enough memory problem" and I managed to upset my LD so that it went into a soft reset loop - I had to perform a hard reset ("Quick erase" option used) to get my LD back. I have now removed Picsel etc and am waiting for a commercial solution for reading PDF files on the LD (Dataviz?). Its a damm shame, as Adobe have such a solution for Symbian (I use it for my Nokia 9500) so I can't see why PalmOne can't ask Adobe to do the same for their OS (note: the Nokia 9500 CPU is only half the speed of the LD and it has no problems dealing with native PDF files).

Well, I feel that the LifeDrive is not really suited for PicselBrowser as it only has 4mb of dynamic ram or so...
About why there is no real adobe reader yet-don't ask me. I actually wonder myself as to why PalmSource does not get in touch with those dudes!

Thanks for that PDAJah. I assume that PowerRun will do that too, since it is similar in the way it works too... I'll give it a try. Just got the Treo so the user ID I have on it is 'Test' while I play around to compare various competing solutions before settling on one.

I may have missed the beginning of the conversation ... but why don't you use Adobe's own product Acrobat Reader for Palm OS if you are just trying to open PDF. For me I'm trying to get an all-in-one solution without the bulk of DocsToGo since I don't really need to edit. Acrobat is free, been around for a while. It's on the Treo Install CD, but you can download it here;

:-( Appears Picsel files on the card have copy protected bit set FileZ cannot copy them to memory

David Sydney, I had to use Zlauncher to copy the files. The Adobe solution for PDF requires you to re-flow the PDF file before you can read it on the LD. This is not helpful as I have dozens of PDF files I want to sync with my LD. PS - you should search for Picsel and Treo 650 here at 1SRC as I remember seeing a very comprehensive thread for the Treo.

The main reason for the topic David, is that ACrobat's Reader program for the PalmOS is only a PDF convverter, not so much teh reader. If you will, if you receive a PDF, ACrobat Reader will not know what to do with it. However, Piscel's viewer reads PDFs without them needing any conversion. So, if you receive a PDF via email, then you can just save it to your card and read it (quick and fast too) instead of needing something to convert it.

Thanks folks, I see. I am too looking for a viewer that does not need any file conversion - seems like Picsel is the only one. RepliGo requires file conversion - even DocsToGo. I loaded Picsel viewer (not Browser) onto Treo by 'Grafting' a PowerRun folder from MemoryStixk across to SD for Treo. Refreshed shortcuts ok - but sent into looping reset that not even warm (page up key) would fix. Don;t know why they don't retail the Picsel Browser I'd happily pay for it - I have bought everything else I'm currently running. Anyway next try is with browser files perhaps the PCRT, SMPT files are some kind of keys that it needs...

I'm also trying to get picsel browser to run on my friends lifedrive, problem is I can't find the files to download, but since I have a TH55, can I just use picsel viewer files instead? Using zlauncher's file mnager, I can see 2 files, Picsel Viewer and Picsel viewer core, can I just copy these two files and port them over to the lifedrive?
