Could someone check this very small audio sample on LifeDrive? On my unit the begining is quite noisy (only on LifeDrive)? I added both the raw uncompressed wav version which has only -1,0,1 (16bit) values at the begining.

So you bought a LD? Why dont you ask Dmitry if he will sell you one of his TH-55U units?

Not exactly bought...

I'am not sure which device I will buy next. Example I have no Symbian or Linux unit yet :)

Yes, there are some strange noises at the very beginning of the track if I listen to it with Pocket Tunes on the Life Drive.
But no noises or so on UX50 or VZ90

You should get an HHE device, but since you are porting TCPMP to Symbian too, I believe, I will resist the urge to be greedy, and suggest you get one of those.

I too find that mp3s through pocket tunes tend to have a "staticky" sound at the end of each track.
It's possible that we're hearing signal leakage from the HD and other electronics. Or maybe pocket tunes is doing a poor job of clearing the buffer at the end and begining of each song so we hear some random 1's and 0's.

Did you test the test.mp3 I linked in the first post? This is not HD leaking signal for sure and it's there with every player software and the noise sounds the same everytime.

Speaking of Pocket Tunes, during my tests (http://www.lmame-bug.com/index.php?p=240&more=1&page=5) I ran into something "fun", it seems pocket tunes takes more CPU from the lifedrive than Aero Player... Something like 10%...
So when you listen MP3 in brackground using Pocket Tunes and you open some softwares or access the microdrive, the music often stops or is often quite weird...
With Aero Player it is "less" noticeable...

Every Benchmarks have been done in portrait mode, but the % remain the same in landscape.

Benchmark of the Life Drive "at ease (http://www.lmame-bug.com/index.php?p=240&more=1&page=4)":

Running Aero Player in the background(-8.5%):

Yes, I had the problems too, I prefer classical music and I was very disappointed when I hear this noise quite often. I returned the LD and wait for a new one.
Read about this problem now in different forums, seems to be a common problem...

Did you hear the noise/distortion in non silent parts too? Could you post some other forum topic URL's about this problem?

picard, does this mean your cutting back on PPC betaplayer development? we're still waiting for 1.0! :)

I'am working on both versions :)
It's going a little slower as I planed.

Well don't stress - Even 'tho this is still a beta, it still blows every other player out of the water. :D

No, only in quite parts. All kinds of music and all kind of encoded mp3 (128k/s -320; VBR, CBR) no change.
Sorry, I don't have other URL's, I googled and found some others with the same problem. Try brighthand forum, they should have additional info.

Thanks. I found the topics on brighthand. I guess palmOne will release a fix sooner or later (although it's will be probably only a workaround. my guess it's hardware issue). In the meantime I will try to add a workaround to TCPMP myself.

I just don't understand, why this happened to a multimedia-mp3playing-allstuffatyourfingertips-super-mega-ultra-great-mobile-manager-device...

If it just were a little gimmick, given as bonus, but no, on one hand palm1 gave the "best choice" for there audio player and makes on the other hand this kind of mistake.
Very strange...

My workaround is to play from the SD card. Yes it is a known problem and I don't get why Palm did get on the market with this (LD unable to play MP3s). I was so amazed at first by the sound quality - way better than my T3. Just to be so disapointed a minute later listening to a 320kbps coldplay song.

I copied the song to my SD card and no more skipping. Static is greatly reduced.

My 2cents:
pTunes is optimized for flash access... Why the hell movies play like a charm? The disk seems to be constantly accessed to buffer data.
Notices how ptunes work. Big access at the start to buffer data, no access for a couple minutes, then the song stops and the buffer is refilled. So I guess that if a complete song can fit in the available buffer memory, then all is good. Don't even think about playing large 8-9Mb songs.

Seems that there are no problem @ 128kbps playing from the drive. I never managed to play a song without skips even when I stay in pTunes.

Wow I don't get this.

With my LD came an extra CD loaded with software - incl. Ptunes pro. So I installed ptunes pro to get advantage of all the stuff. seems that was my problem. If I uninstall it and run the lite version, MP3s with a reasonable birate (still don't think about playing 320kbps from HD) don't skip at all... strange since both version are 3.0.9.

Edit:
I reinstalled my pro version and it doesn't skip. I'm gonna play with the equalizer...

Edit2:
Seems that it's the Dang freaking hell equalizer that cause the problem!!
Going into Bass boost mode...

Edit3: Ok, Bass boost is also no good. Skip are less frequent and shorter, but every minute or so it skips.
Reverting back to no eq at all...

I only got one CD-ROM in my US order from their warehouse in Lexington, KY to Bloomington, IN. I paid $25 to upgrade to P-Tunes Deluxe for the privilege of not being able to use the equalizer.

How many CDs were we supposed to get? Was a second CD included in international shipments?

Thanks for the link. I found this: ...The LifeDrive Mobile Entertainment CD is not available for separate purchase, but you can download its third-party software independently through the software connection....
But could not find e.g. pocket tunes deluxe through the search of software connection.
Well, usability and customer service is not a real strenght of p1...

Luckily I don't need a deluxe version, I'm happy if I just can get a sound without any noise.
