View Full Version : Gonna be hard to take stealth pictures!!!

Took one of my mother-in-law today during church. Def. gonna lose that ability with the NZ....The other thing that concerns me is taking pictures via the timer. Is the Cf card end flat enough to set on a flat surface and have it stand up securely? I suppose you could open it up and face it towards where you want to be.
The camera end should be elevated enough so you're not shooting the ceiling.
The flash will be nice. I wanted to take a pic of the dog sleeping last night but it was to dark in the room.
Some tradeoffs with the bigger camera.... I wonder if they can ever achieve the same resolution with an NR/NX type rotating lense?

we could always make you a deal - you lay off the brick jokes, and we won't start on the Iowa jokes ;)

Funny jokes, but seriously, if the issue of being stealth is related only to the flash, I'm sure Sony would include a way to turn it off, right? If nothing else, it would save battery power if you don't need a flash all the time. Otherwise, I'm sure someone will design a patch.

1. They do have a way of turning the flash off.
2. IOWA=Idiots Out Wandering Around :)
I would feel bad about that joke, expect for the fact that my girlfriend's mother told me that. She lives in Atlantic, Iowa

PS: I promise I won't tell any more of them. Unless I'm forced to ;)

Figgered they'd include a flash turnoff. Pretty standard camera feature. I'm thinkin more of how you have to hold it to take a pic plus that big ol lense staring at your subject!!!
Iowa, West Virginia , tell em all!!!! Got any Michigan ones???

Honestly, I don't think that the lens is all that identifiable to the clie-uninformed. You can probably still point this device at someone without them having a clue what your are doing.

Agreed. I've practically put the NX right up in peoples faces and they've not paid attention. Add to that, I'll be curious to see what entries we get by way of cases for the NZ

I think that the 90 degree angle needed to take a pic plus the added lense size will tip people off. With my NX, I would flip up the lid and act like I was writing something down. Perfect cover. I could even roll the lip of my cheap case out of the way and shoot pics from my case. I'm gonna miss the rotating camera the most, I think. Although I've always been very nervous about getting dirt in the lense when I roll it around. I wish someone had taken some pics of the NZ lens cover retracted/unretracted...

Check the link for the NZ, oneeye. It looks like there is two positions; lens out the back - lens out the front without a middleground. I'm anxious to get my hands physically one one machine to see what the rotation actually feels and looks like.
As to the stealth, where there's a will, there's a way :)

How about someone puts out a case with assorted branches and leaves on it. Cammo-mesh and stuff like that. Looks like there may be a market for the cloaking CF card afterall....

I worry about dust too, but it seems the lens cap is one other thing to loose. I still have no clue how the device's camera rotates. I too will run to BestBuy to play when they come out.

LOL Ocell, will the cloaking CF card also double as a force field? Be kinda handy in bad weather ....
I understand how it rotates. The Sony demo is the best way to grasp that. Basically there are only two positions to use it in as it follows the rotation of the screen. Tablet mode or "tricorder" mode. I suppose you could partially open it in "tricorder" mode to change the angle, but it looks like there isn't much angle before the lense drops behind the main body of the PDA. It still a pretty small area to pack a 2MP camera into, so I'm not disappointed in the setup. I just don't think it'll be as stealth...
Medcat, I believe it is an integral dust lens/cover. The button to the left of the lens on the camera body being used to activate it.

Oh, I see, sweet. That is kind of cool. I hope somebody designs a cool tricorder skin and wallpaper for it when it comes out.

Someone should make a small one-way mirror kind of lenscap for it. Then no one would know the camera was there, they'd think it was a small mirror :D!

yeah but with the NR, you get some annoying sound.. Can you disable it?

I read somewhere here that there is a hack to disable the sound on the NR...of course it wont work on OS5 machines but if MikeD is looking for it can somone help him out - I dont remember the name.

The cutesy shutter sound is something you can disable, if that's what you're talking about.

I think hes refering to the beep it makes when you take a picture - not sure as I dont have an NR just read somewhere that the noise it does make can be disabled with a hack.

Yeah, I'm referring to that sound when the shutter releases. It normally sounds like a camera taking a picture (really fake! but entertaining) or you can change it in the capture settings.
