Hi,

My name is Steven and I'm an undergrad at UCSD conducting a research study to find out more about the design and usability of iPods as well as other, similar mp3 players.

This survey will only take about 10-15 minutes and is for my undergraduate research.

I greatly appreciate your help!

I hope you asked the owners of the site? although links offsite are common, links to collect information from the participants of the site is usually a good idea to ask permission....

Well, yeah, but this is not for commercial purposes, this is for college, and I know what a pain in the arse it can be to get statistical data...

Amen to that...

"Hi sir! I'm a student at blah blah and I'm doing this survey of... well, bye... git."

Doing it on-line is a lot easier, safer, and is less likely to make you psychotic :D

Of course the results might be more skewed, seeing as it's gonna have a might higher proportion of nerds and techies :D

Alas I cannot help my fellow student as I own a (far superior :D) iRiver...

well, I took the survey... I was not trying to say he should not have posted, it's just a good idea to drop an email to the owners (after all, college or not you are taking advertising at someone else's expense) and let them know. Just politeness, not saying never post the link. :)

iRiver... hmmmm... as long as you don't mind less quality, cheaper product, less battery life, fewer options, and shorter life iRiver is great I hear. :-P

That is EXACTLY the problem. Thank god that I was able to use macro data already processed by the OECD for my dissertation (although they wanted to charge me like $2,000 for it, but I found a loophole), but I know the problem of taking surveys. Once I had to explain to this lady for half an hour that I couldn't care less about her name; I just wanted to know her political preferences... and it only gets worse when you ask about income.

The problem with internet surveys, at least in developing countries, is that it biases your sample to a higher income level, so you can't talk about a "random" sample anymore...
