A while ago, I bought a Zodiac1. When I did some things,(sometimes playing 3d games, or occasionally even background music playback), the back of the Zodiac heated up. This was much more likely to happen when using it while charging. Also, the Zodiac had screen hum that appeared and dissapeared randomly. I exchanged the Zodiac for a Zodiac2, and it shows the same problems! Are these problems common to all Zodiacs and I just haven't heard of them or is it something else, and if so, what?

You could look into a clocking program. The processor is the main thing that causes heat. As for screen whine, Dmitry has fixed this for many handhelds with his warpspeed program. It doesnt list this as being fixed for the Zodiac, but you could email him about it, and he may be willing to fix it. You can find the program info here (http://dmitrygr.titaniumhosting.com/articles.php?lng=en&pg=154). Underclocking on programs that dont need the power can help the heat problem, and help the battery alot too.

I use a leather case with mine so I couldn't feel heat if it were developing. I don't get a screen whine, even with my ear right up on the device. I wonder if there is system "hack" or extension that could be causing that? or is this even happening with nothing loaded on the zod?

I don't have any idea if it does it when there's nothing on it or not, next time I notice it I will do an extensions off reset and see if that solves anything. Since the heat is low enough that it doesn't really bother me, and the screen hum is fairly quiet even when it is there, what I really want to know is if these things are signs of or causing more serious problems. It probably is a software problem, since I have all the same software from the first one on the second.

I posted this on several other forums, and at emuboards they figured out my problems. Turns out the Zodiac has screen hum if the brightness is set to around %50, turning it up or down a little makes it go away. Apparently it's also normal for it to heat up some in games or while charging.
