This thread is solely for reporting bugs, crashes, errors, and any kind of problem with your LifeDrive. With luck, PalmOne and/or other software developers will take notice of things that need to be fixed.

For starters, I've had several soft resets in the last week. At first I thought they had different causes, but I now think they may be related.
The most obvious problem is that when I try to view a slideshow using the included viewer, I can see one picture and then I get an error message saying I'm out of memory. If I disable the transition effects, no problem. But lately it's gotten worse, so that I can't even view one picture with transition effects.
Now, it's ridiculous to think that I've run out of memory on an LD. When I check my memory from the apps page, it says I have used 44mb and have 21mb left. When I check it from Filez, however, it says I have already used 55mb. Big difference.
Clearly, the memory is not being managed properly.

Some of my resets seem to be while accessing wifi, or using the web. I haven't been able to pinpoint the problem, but sometimes when I launch the web browser, the system hangs up for as long as 30 seconds, and sometimes I just get an error message saying I'm short on memory again. This only happens maybe one time in ten.
I should add that both this problem and the photo one can occur immediately after a soft reset as well as later.

As others have noted, Pocket Tunes has some problems as well, but I've talked with them and they say they're working on a fix that should be out by the end of June.
Pocket Tunes sometimes stops in mid-song for several seconds. It also takes a second or two to switch between songs, and crossfading two songs causes the same jittery start-stop problem.
PT says the problem is with how the LifeDrive accesses the hard drive, and that PalmOne is working on a fix, as is PT, and that both should be out by July. It may be that this bug fix may solve the whole memory issue altogether, since the three problems I'm having seem to be somewhat related to loading and clearing the cache poorly.

Here's a little update: If I select the "web" app, and wifi is off, it asks me if I want to turn it on. If I say "cancel," it soft resets.
The code it returns with after the reset is "MemoryMgr.c, Line:3771,Free handle."
Hope that means something to someone.

I get the same thing, dude. I love my LD, but it has its problems.

I had some corrupt files on the last LD, but it hasn't happened since I exchanged that one yesterday. I've noticed that sometimes I'll get an Out of Memory error, but if I switch to another app and come back, it's fine. I think there's problems with the cache code.
Since I got a new LD yesterday, I didn't copy any of the programs from my old profile into the new device. I cut/pasted all the contact info and memos and things. I've had problems in the past with programs being copied from one profile to the next causing issues. No soft resets yet with the fresh profile.

Just had my first reset-3 days old. My LD was off for a couple of hours sfter surfing via wifi at home. I turned it back on and tried to reload 1src at which point it went straight into a soft reset. The error was a memory pointer failure.
I've noticed that while Pocket-tunes is pulling the next song in the list from the HDD, there is a lot of static in the head-phones. I've also noticed that if you insert an SD card that isn't formatted as a 'digital Camera' card, the media-viewer can get hung up, basically causing you to either soft-reset or wait fifteen minutes or so. These are minor niggles compared to the Sharp Zaurus I used before this.

I have had mine for 4 days. I LOVE this thing! Sony was my fav but this is the best. I have had a lot of apps to tranfer over. I had both soft and hard. Even the 30min one. The one major faulty (caused the 30min one) is Life Drive manager. I deleted all palm data off the PC. Installed software, went fine. Came to the manager. 1st. time no problems transfering apps or mp3s. 2nd time now at all times Error. Ive dragged/copied/pasted and it does this. I drag app into the manager it will ask ether copy or format then rt. after -
Files are ready to be copied to lifedrive. please attatch the device to finish copying or click cancel to cancel action.
If I click ok nothing happens
click cancel, Im out of manager. Spoke twice to palmone and nothing but a headache. Does this happen to any one else?

I had a problem where the touch screen was not responding to anything at all, and it was AFTER i took it out of Locked mode, so i think it had something to do with that.
Soft reset cleared it all up.

I've got a Versamail error along with an autopower off concern. Seems like autopower off powers down the handheld while activity is engaged. Lately, I was checking my email when the LD powered down in the middle of a download. Since then, I was in a restart loop with the below fault.
a reset was caused on "date" at "time" while running Versamail. VFSDBCache.c, Line:4560 found trailing records after dir sync.
Along with the above fault, any attempt to start Versamail sends LD into restart loop. I performed a few soft resets with the same result; restart loop. I then did a hard reset and performed a hotsync with backed up data....same result. I'm almost ready to rip out Versamail and use another email program.
Any input??

Hi, try to delete the savedpreferences.pdb (if exists in LD) from your desktop backup folder. At least it helped me to get rid of the soft reset loop and other "reset" errors after a hard restet on my T3.

Some additional info on my "out of memory" issue:
I haven't been able to run the slideshow with transitions yet because the LD says I don't have enough free memory. However, out of the blue yesterday, it did work. No problems, works fine. Used it a number of times. Ran some videos. No problems.
Then I shut it off, and that sent it into a soft reset.
Also, I've noticed that while downloading a shoutcast, that sometimes it'll say I don't have enough memory. I noticed if I then go into P-Tunes and play another shoutcast, I can then go back to Blazer and re-download the new shoutcast without a problem.
It seems as if, as someone else has mentioned, that if you switch to another program and use it in such a way that it uses memory, then come back to the first program, the memory has been "freed up."
Are you reading these, PalmOne? I love my LD and I knew that as an early adopter I would have to put up with some bugs. Your ROM update had better be golden and on time or else people are going to get turned off by these bugs.

I had a horrible reset loop that eventually locked up the LD to where the unit was off and the reset button was unresponsive. Back to CompUSA it went.
Warm reset would bring the unit up for maybe 10 seconds before it reset.

Also, LD manager crashes dependably on Windows when it converts AVI files for importing to the LD.

Does the lifedrive's screen make any noise similar to the T|E? My T|E had a loud buzzing sound coming from the screen and sometimes a high pitched whine. Does the lifedrive fix this or not?

I think it's too soon to tell, however, someone has already stated that the high pitched whine appears in the LD if you underclock it to 312Mhzs or even if you slightly overclock it.

Anybody having sync problems with docs to go?
Its not really a problem but when I load my files into the hard drive they all appear in Documents to Go even if I don't have them listed on the Docs to Go Desk Top. If I tap on one of these files it sometimes give me an error that an earlier version of documents to go has been detected. Maybe I just have it set up wrong. I have had several soft resets but haven't noted a consistant cause.

The "Palm OS Handheld Devices" device in Device Manager (on Windows XP) disappears and reappears at the start and end of each HotSync. Not only is the double-beep disconcerting, but it seems that occasionally it fails to pick the device back up properly, resulting in HotSync failures or unrecognized USB device errors.

Not yet, but I've only just got it set up and running. In a few days I'll be looking into it and will let you know how it goes for me.
Got a new memory bug this morning. While using Versamail to check my account, I kept getting an "Out of Memory" error message every time I'd try to connect. Didn't reset it or anything, but did stop everything dead.
P1, you gotta fix this memory bug, and quickly...

Hold Up on the 5-way and press reset. I hold the "up" through the progress bar screen and several seconds during the Palm Powered screen then release it.
Good luck with it. Reset loops on the LD are tedious. :(

The latest: After a little fiddling, I managed to get my HandyShopper databases transfered. Everything was working well until I added a new database. Suddenly the LD soft-reset. When it came back, the error message simply said "Error with Handyshr." The odd thing was that the database I just added was there, but another one that I hadn't even touched was gone. I've got some backups, so I'm working on that now. Can't say if this is the LD's fault or HandyShopper's.

About 3-4 times now the alarm has "locked up" on a calendar reminder. One of those times I happened to be in the airport, but luckily I had already gone through security. The only way to stop it (loud ringing noise) is a soft reset.
I've had other problems with calendar/task reminders (and no error codes) where a reminder will display/sound, and no matter what I do I can't clear it for up to 2-3 minutes. I assume that it's due to the hard drive being accessed...

Just tried logging onto my work network with MergicVPN and it crashed. Error said:

This software did not come with the LD, but it was recommended by PalmOne. Haven't gotten it to work at all yet.

Launched Blazer. It asked if I wanted to turn on wifi. I said no. Reset.
The error message is the familiar "memory 3771" that has cropped up before.

Hope you can help with this one. When I Hotsych everything goes well, Docs To Go, and all of my medical programs that download from the web UNTIL I try to install something new (from Quickinstall) where it hangs continuosly forcing me to cancel the Hotsych and soft reset the device. I've tracked it down using the Custom dialogue on the Hotsych Manager on the taskbar that the hang occurs when Install enables toward the bottom of the conduit. The Quick Install conduit works fine as does everything else. I've had to resort to installing everything manually from the hard disc and SD card.
Any help would be appreciated.

I've got an issue that I'm not sure is a bug or possibly user confusion (on my part). I can't seem to get eReader (Pro) or MobiReader to 'see' or open any eBooks I put onto the LifeDrive, meaning the actual LifeDrive itself. If I hotsync them into the handheld 'partition' they're visible and open just fine. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it supposed to be this way?
Thanks in advance,

When I move it around there is a sound like a loose screw rattling around inside. It isn't loud but I do notice it and am wondering if that is what is causing some of the other problems.
I seem to be having problems with some of the software installing properly(doesn't install all of the files or after installing doesn't run right even though it is on the list of apps that palm says works!). Also can't get it to set up to work with my wireless network.
The lag time increases alot if I have a SD card in the slot. If I take it out and don't use it the lag time is a lot less and it runs faster. While the lag times don't seem to be much different than when I used Power Run and moved apps or data from the SD card to access it. I am thinking that maybe it is more noticible on this unit because you see a white screen everytime it moves data or applications. With my other Palms and Clies I never saw a white screen.
If I set it flat on the desk while hotsyncing, it gets really warm but as soon as I pick it up it cools down. Maybe they should have stuck some air holes on the sides. I like how it feels in my hand with the curved sides.
On one install in which I installed the Movie Guide, it installed to the harddrive and while the program was installed it did not install the actual data. WHen I tried to install it again it just refuses to accept the install. None of the photos will install to the hard drive either (splash photo). Everything just wants to install to the 64mg memory area. Nothing installs using the lifedrive manager, although in all fairness it could be my infamiliarity with how to use the program correctly. It is a little hard to use the users manual at the same time you are trying to figure out how to use an appliciation!!!!!!!!!
I have noticed that the user guide (all 784 pages) does not format properly for display on the unit itself. When I tried to print out some of the pages from my desktop I noticed that the pages do not match up (pages on the manual are different than what Adobe says they are). It is making it very difficult to print out the right pages.
You would think that Palm would make this manual available already printed out. I don't think printing out the manual at home is cost effective as if Palm would either include it with the high price or as an optional item.
OVerall I really like this unit even though it seems to be harder to install programs and not use up the 64mg of memory!! However I have not even begun to use all the features.
I am thinking about taking this unit back because of the rattle.

one question did any of you guys tried a fresh profile as recomended by palmone
did you try to install one app at a time to see if its compatabile with the new memory structure. i did this and i found quite few older progs not compatabile, their prc file runs ok but there database file screws up the lifedrive and it caused quite a few resets and one hard reset. After that i find my LD lot more stable then the T5

I've only had one problem with the LifeDrive, but it is a MAJOR problem. It just keeps getting stuck in this stupid soft reset loop. I've had it less than a week, and have had to hard reset a dozen times already.
Does anyone know a way around this?
Ezikial Anta

Yeah, If you hold the UP key while you press the reset button and keep holding the up key till the Life Drive goes into "safe mode" you can delete whatever crashed it, or change the necessary files.
Hard Resets should be rare.

I installed each app one at a time, and not from the backup from my TC. I'm also running Uninstall Manager, so I can see (and remove if needed) everything that gets installed with an app. I've got the stock Graffiti2 installed - no hacks of any sort.
I've actually only got a couple of things installed:
eReader Pro
Asia
Championship Euchre
Docs To Go
Agendus 9.05
ClockDeluxe
Farkle
SpaceTrader
All are the most recent versions available.

I found out over on Brighthand that AIM (AOL IM) is death to the LD. It had causes a bunch of hard resets until I went to the one app at a time approach including keeping generations of the BACKUP folder. All has been very stable.
Can we post keep a stuck list of compatible / incompatible apps somewhere? Such a list was started on LDcentral but there's not a lot of traffic there.

Well, it started out nice enough, but after a while (10 days or so) my LD started displaying bad behavior. The digitizer locked-up to the point that I did a soft reset. When that didn't work, I did the hard, secure, 30 minute long, wipe the 4 gig hard drive reset. And that didn't work at first, but finally I was able to recalidrate the digitizer and regained control. Then I noticed that the IR was not working in either direction. I may have missed that since I was using bluetooth to transfer some stuff from my T5 until just the other day. Then I started having too many crashes during WiFi operations. Then the LD started having a problem of loading external applications. It could not tell the difference between the hard drive and my SD card. With the exception of the IR problem, the other problems have been intermittent. When I bought the LD I also bought CompUSA's 2 year walk-in replacement policy. So I could exchange it for another unit, but I remembered a problem I had with the Palm V when it first came out. There was a production run of Vs that had defective SD card slots that would not hold a card in place. I got 3 replacements (4 total units) and it wasn't easy. I had to throw a hissy the last time because they informed me that their replacement policy entitled me to ONE replacement only..... So while I'm still covered by CompUSA's 21 day no questions return policy, they're getting it back and I'll wait to see how the dust settles. Most likely, my unit was defective, not the entire production run, but there is that chance of the first run having problems and I'm not about to go through the possible pains that would go along with that. My T5 is solid as a rock and does what I need. The LD adds "toys" that I do like, but can live without .... :(

Mike: I had the same question/problem, then treated the LifeDrive like a MS on my TH55 - I created a folder on the Lifedrive named "Palm", then created a sub-folder in "Palm" named "Books" (This is the directory structure that ereader is looking for - it views the Lifedrive as an SD/MS card). Then, open ereader and you will see your books nicely lined up after you select 'Open'. Hope this answers your question. If not, let me know.

Hi All,
I really need some help with this ...
Everytime I do a HotSync it fails doing the backup ... the only time hotsync worked is after a hard reset ... as soon as I beam over all my memo's and contacts from my previous palm ... or if I install an app or 2 .... the hotsync backup will fail ...
If I turn hotsync backup off ... hotsync goes through without any errors.
Just to clarify ... by fail i mean the LifeDrive and desktop lose connection ... sometimes the LD requests a reset ...
Any help with this would be great
I will also try it from another computer later
Thanks

I keep on having problems with hotsyncing my Outlook conduits. The only thing that works is if I have my Outlook overwrite the handheld AND make it 'set as default'. In all other cases it wipes the complete data out of Calender (on the handheld) and out of Memos (on the handheld). In both cases not from my Outlook, Thank God, or whoever.
This means so far, that I can only change appointments in my Outlook and not on my LifeDrive.
Apart from that, I do have a lot of resets with DateBk 5, disappearing icons, strange order of the icons, resets with AvantGo, resets with ZLauncher.
So is this an upgrade to my Tungsten T3? Yes, because it's beautiful and I can finally directly get my mail without the maddriving sticking in and out of the WiFi-card and No, because of these problems and because it really is very sluggish and slow, compared to the most stable and fast Palm ever, the T3.
But any help with the synchronizing would be great, the rest I can live with. Thanks a bunch.

this i propably why your gonna have to install one app at a time to catch the one causing the reset loop. Example Aol for palm ran but when it updated its database caused the LD to reset. i know i spent a good after noon to figure it out
I have had this happen a lot. I wanted to see if it was the app itself. It is. When I have aol on my hard drive it crashes. If it is in the lifedrive manager it crashes. It seems to work ok no resets if I have aol on my sd card, then copy it to main drive with no crashes. aol worked fine. I found that if you leave it on the ram and try to sync, crash. You have to keep moving it back to sd card and make sure it is not on the main drive. it is a pain but this is the only way i can figure out how to not crash.

I installed each app one at a time, and not from the backup from my TC. I'm also running Uninstall Manager, so I can see (and remove if needed) everything that gets installed with an app. I've got the stock Graffiti2 installed - no hacks of any sort.
I've actually only got a couple of things installed

All are the most recent versions available.

when i posted the problem with lifedrive manager I wanted to see if anyone else is having this problem, every time I go to use the LD manager by dragging or copying mp3's to apps, the same thing happens. It will pop up the box to copy/ reformat etc. when i click any above, it then pops up saying that there are files waiting to be copied. Please connect the device to continue. I do not have any device connected or ever did. It will say ( ok or to cancel download) I have clicked both, and same window pops up again. I have looked everywhere on my pc/LD and still nothing there is waiting. Cannot find what files are waiting?

Has anyone else noticed that the same compliants about the LifeDrive are similar if not the same as the complaints about the T5??? I was checking out the Tungsten forum and read the software bugs for the T5 and began to see many many of the same issues being asked.
Since the file format on the T5 is the same and it is also almost the same as the LifeDrive except for the wifi and the 4gb hard drive, I am also curious as to why so many are badmouthing the Lifedrive, (especially before they even had one in their hot little hands!!!!!!!!!!!), are using the same complaints they have listed for the T5.

A couple of new crashes to report:
After playing a shoutcast via Pocket Tunes, I stopped playback and turned off the LD. This forced a soft reset, and it came back with this error:
Emul68kmainc
Line:403, illegal
instruction0049 at
address 00B1B04F
I have gotten a number of resets if I shut off the device while it's got a wifi connection.
This morning I had another crash right after a hotsync:calling Line403, 13FF, 00B193F0
This last one was compaining about the program "keyboard." I had opened my BT keyboard while the LD was hotsyncing, so it's possible that triggered the crash. Just an FYI for people.

I was going to report the soft reset problem and following having to enter my registration numbers in all my third party programs, then I remembered everytime in the past I have upgraded from one device to another, there has been a program or programs which do not work right with the new device. This time when I deleted the problem program, one I loved but which was not working right, the problem was solved.

After a few weeks with the LD, I think 90% of my crashes come from two programs: Handy Shopper, and wifi. I think HS2's problem is that it can't recognize two "cards" (HD and SD). As for wifi, it works wonderfully most of the time, but every now and then it locks up, such as if I turn off the LD while listening to a shoutcast.
The last 10% of crashes can be chalked up to the usual tribulations of upgrading a device.

Side Note: I recieved my leather case from peilframa, great product. If anyone bought from them but not recieved yet, you will be very happy.
Any thoughts on the soft resets, anyone?? Love the LifeDrive but this issue is a little troubling!

So far, my LifeDrive is very stable, with one exception: Versamail. The only soft resets I get is occasionally when I start Versamail, usually from another app such as calendar or contacts.
Also, Versamail seems to have a bug -- I can't send email wirelessly through my Verizon DSL account due to an authentication problem. However, Versamail sends OK when hotsynching (same account, same settings). I'm working with palmOne to try to figure out this issue.

I can recieve POP3 mail with Versamail, but I can't send authenticated SMPT. For some reason, it won't send it even via hotsync. I've also had a number of my crashes occur with Versamail, but I suspect it has more to do with the wifi issue than Versamail itself.

Not really a bug, but a minor gripe. You know those little rubber stops on the bottom of the LD? It turns out they're cheaply glued onto the screws that hold the casing together. They both came off after a few weeks.
You'd think $500 would pay for rubber stops that don't just rub off? Anyone else with this problem yet?

I love my LifeDrive, but man, it's got some bugs to work out.
It's crashing on me upwards of five times a day. Granted, I've got a lot more running on it than I did on my old T2, but it's getting to the point of being a joke. Most of the basic programs seem to run fine - PIMs, Wordsmith, DtG, Pocket Tunes, Palmary Clock, most others. But then then there are programs that crash maybe once every three times, like Mapopolis, Blazer, Pocket Tunes sometimes - it gets pretty freakin' annoying.
Okay, Normsoft has said they'll have a fix for Pocket Tunes in a week or two, and they've been good with bug fixes in the past, so I'm okay waiting for them. But PalmOne had better get its act together or their flagship is going to sink. I've heard that P1 is working on a ROM upgrade. It had better be before too many of these kinds of threads disuade people from an otherwise killer device.
It seems like about half of my crashes are connected to either wifi, or shutting off the LD. Both of these may be related to saving settings to the HD, and may be an easy ROM fix. Here's to hoping.

I get the same problem. I get one of two error messages after the soft reboot. The main one is something like "While running VersaMail, MemoryMgr.c Line:3759 Non-Word-aligned Handle"
I can ONLY get out of this soft reset condition by either deleting that email account, synching again and then reinstalling it. Smells like database corruption? After I fix this is okay for a day or so and then the same thing happens again. It happens most often to an account synched with Outlook 2002 SP3 but does happen occasionally to POP accounts too. Anyone else seen this?

Ad, where did you get that info??
Right after I got my LD and noticed the skipping problem with Pocket Tunes, I wrote to them about it. This was their reply:
"Yes, we are aware of that issue. palmOne is working on a ROM update for this issue. The problem is the buffer (cache) gets full and the disk spins down, but doesn't spin back up to full speed until the buffer actually empties. We're going to add instructions in Pocket Tunes to tell the disk to spin back up before the buffer empties. Between our update and the ROM update from palmOne, this problem should go away entirely. Expect Pocket Tunes 3.1 to be out mid to late June."

I tried to open a 25 pages word document, B00M reset...
But my LD won't boot anymore, tried reset, warm reset ect ect but no nothing, afther reset the LD will show the progres bar, then the PalmOne logo and that's it. I even could not switch the unit off.
I only could do a hardreset, and there i found another strange thing, i only had 2 options( instead of 3 ) i could choose between cancel or secure ( 30min) the quick option ( 5min ) was not there.
Well i have now hotsynced the ld and all seems fine now, but this was not nice, i had to look up some data for a client of mine, now i had to go back to the office

There are so many instabilities with the LifeDrive that it's driven the fun out of owning a new PDA. After using it for almost a week now, I've had too many crashes and resets to even keep count. I have tried to keep the number of programs installed to a minimum in order to try and isolate the ones that can cause resets. but heck, even the built-in apps like the Calendar can crash as well!
This has made me feel very apprehensive about doing any work on it, for fear of it crashing halfway through while writing a report, working on spreadsheets etc...
Oh, and I also get that "white screen of death" as well sometimes when I switch on. You just don't know whether it's the LifeDrive accessing the hard disk or some other fault until you find icons with no titles appearing.

I agree. It's taken the fun out of it for fear of losing data or having it crash when I really needed it to work. I also agree with the basic apps running it's really not a problem but I can't take a chance with other third party apps. I just disabled SharkCache again as it has a tendancy to create a reset cycle when it loads after a reset.

Blazer and Versamail seem to force a reset one out of maybe four times.
I was having trouble with Versamail with my first LD, but since I exchanged it, I've only had Blazer reset on me. I take that back, Avantgo caused a reset once when I was online and it went to get a web page.
All of my resets have been tied to networking. I just got the new network patch and it seems to have fixed the issues I was having with my Linksys router, and I'm hoping that was a cause for these resets, too.

Oh, and I also get that "white screen of death" as well sometimes when I switch on.
I've seen that too, when you hit the buttons, the drive light goes on like it's working. I just shut it off and on again, and it pops right up, with the app that I'd pressed the button for up. I wouldn't necessarily call it "the white screen of death" because it's not forcing a reset or anything. A minor annoyance at best.
I had a ton of problems with my LD, until I started over with a fresh profile, the way PalmOne was recommending. I found that a lot of the programs that I had in my T5 (and had leftover from many Palms before) were causing me a ton of grief. Now that I have a clean slate, and loaded all the programs I want to use from new sources, I hardly have any resets, and they're all related to networking. I think I've had 2 resets since I re-did my profile almost 3 weeks ago.

Fer cryin' out loud... I finally get my LD to run nice and stable - only about one reset a day, and that due to the memory problem we all know about (and Palm had better be fixin'!)
But this morning, Docs to Go crashed on me, and even with total wipes and reinstallation it would crash. It started when it said I had two files named the same thing on the card and handheld. I deleted one. After that, every time I merely opened the DtG program - soft reset. Even removing the card where all the files were stored did nothing.
So now I'm looking at my first hard reset to try to clear out whatever bug got in there in the first place. That's infuriating! PalmOne, you'd better get that ROM update out soon!!!

Before you do that, try downloading DatavizTech utility which allows you to delete DocsToGo hidden files. Try deleting under Advance Options "preferences" and "Temp Database. After that, launch DTG again to see if it cured the problem. It is probably the temp dbs. If not, you can use the Uninstall DTG from the Main Screen, do a soft reset and reinstall a fresh copy. Problem with Blazer results in loss of touch-screen functionality. If you are using Blazer with BT and GPRS and there is a loss of the GPRS signal Blazer seems to get upset. The result is that the screen sensitivity is lost - you need to switch-off the unit and switch it back on again to regain screen sentivity. How can P1 produce such a poor product given that the Clie TH55 (one year ago) was so stable with BT and Netfront?

Ouch, I have run out of ideas too. Well maybe one more. Try deleting ALL DXTG folders on your external and ALL DTG documents in RAM, do a FULL uninstall with DataVizTech and Reinstall. Then launch DTG and create a new entry and see if that works. If yes, then HotSync in one PDB instead of copying to External and see if it can open. If this don't work, looks like a Hard Reset and reinstall is on the mneu :(

Actually, I have some useability at the moment. I can access and use my spreadsheets, which I couldn't before. The important thing is that I've been able to sync everything and have lost no data.

I have had zillions of soft resets, in different types of applications. At least 5 times a day. It seems all related to memory handling and I am not pleased.

Bought one recently. And here is the problem. After performing a hard reset it requires to calibrate the touchscreen by demonstrating a round target to tap in the center of. Initially it appears in the right bottom corner of the screen. So, I tap on it, and it jumps to the left upper corner. I tap it there, it again jumps to the right bottom corner. And so it continues endlessly - I may spend hours hitting the target, it jumping away, and with no result. I'm tapping inaccurately? I doubt so - I'm doing my best to hit precisely into the center. Nothing happens, I got an endless cycle with no way out. Resets don't help. Anyone here faced a similar problem?

Hi All,
I've had my LD for a couple of days. A major issue happens when launching Blazer after connecting to our secure wireless network at work. All unregistered devices browser's are "forced" to a wireless authentication page. My device resets when being forced to this page and I get a 3759 non-word-alignment error. If I set the homepage of Blazer to the login page, it seems to work better and stabilize. Any thoughts?
Thanks! - Andy Morton

I have been having this problem when I go into memo. It automatically soft resets my LD and when the OS starts back up it says:A reset was caused while running "memos", PalmOsField.c, Line:4590, Field Object Overlocked. Anyone know what this is or what I can do about it?
EDIT: I realized it only happens when I try to write text. I can read a memo without it reseting but if I try to write something and then I leave memo, it resets.

I recently purchased a LifeDrive and from day 1 it has had the following problems. 1. The Wi-Fi drops out constantly after connection. It will not stay connected for any period of time. (Even if standing beside my access point). 2. I continually get the error message that it is unable to resolve my email server settings. (Have used the software to create an account and done it manually - no good - no mail). 3. I continually get the error message that it is unable to resolve the URL entered into the web browser, no matter what URL is entered. (Except that if you enter the ip address of the web page it will load, eg www.google.com.au is 66.102.7.99 - go figure?). 4. Twice since purchase it has done a soft reset all by itself after tapping the Versamail icon and then come up with an error message on reboot stating that it has had a "Fatal Exception" whilst using Versamail. 5. When using WiFileLT the LifeDrive shows me all of my PCs on my home network but it doesn't matter which one you connect to it will only display the shared folder of the same PC everytime. (I have 1 desktop and 3 laptops permanently connected to a wireless network). So I have to transfer the file to the 1 PC all the time if I want to transfer files to the LifeDrive. I didn't think you had to be an IT Network Administrator to use one of these things. It should be pretty much plug-and-play. It appears I have bought a lemon. I have been onto technical support twice by email and twice by phone and all I get is people trying to quote me straight from the manual how to connect to Wi-Fi. They have passed my problems onto "Higher Technical Support Engineers". I can see myself presenting myself at the sales counter on Monday.....(you can guess the rest).

Try the LD WiFi update from the Palmone Support website. It is to support a limited number of routers but may help.

I recently purchased a LifeDrive and from day 1 it has had the following problems.
1. The Wi-Fi drops out constantly after connection. It will not stay connected for any period of time. (Even if standing beside my access point).
if you use a linksys wrt54g router, there is an update (http://www.palmone.com/us/support/downloads/lifedrive/lifedrive_update.html) for the wifi.
2. I continually get the error message that it is unable to resolve my email server settings. (Have used the software to create an account and done it manually - no good - no mail).
have you made sure your settings are correct? the correct ports for pop3 and smtp (normal smtp port is 25 but my server requires it to me 3939)? does your server require authentication? are you sure your pop3 and smtp server address is correct?
3. I continually get the error message that it is unable to resolve the URL entered into the web browser, no matter what URL is entered. (Except that if you enter the ip address of the web page it will load, eg www.google.com.au is 66.102.7.99 - go figure?).
that sounds like a dns issue. are you using dhcp or static ip?
4. Twice since purchase it has done a soft reset all by itself after tapping the Versamail icon and then come up with an error message on reboot stating that it has had a "Fatal Exception" whilst using Versamail.
dont know what to tell you here dude, sorry

1. I have downloaded the update. No difference. I didn't have one of the routers listed in the fix.
2. The mail settings are the same for all my PCs. It doesn't matter if I use the "SET UP MAIL" option from the supplied disk and transfer my laptop settings or if I manually set them up myself, it doesn't work. The LifeDrive automatically assigns the correct incoming and outgoing mail server settings once you have selected your MAIL SERVICE from the dropdown list. For me it is AU-Bigpond Mail, this puts mail.bigpond.com into both the incoming and outgoing servers (which is the correct entry). Ports are also correct.
3. My router is set up as a DHCP Server which is connected to the net 24/7. Each PC/LifeDrive MAC address on my network is assigned a permanent IP address from the router setup options.
4. The answer from PALM - Reformat and Reload. (I didn't realise they were employed by Microsoft). Are they kidding, is that the best answer they have to a faulty piece of equipment, reset and reload? They expect me to just reset and reload my LifeDrive if I ever get any problems for the rest of the life of the unit. Get real, I want technical answers as to why my unit is not functioning correctly or the unit replaced under warranty (which has yet to be suggested by Palm and doubt it ever will).
5. See 4.

@The Badman, I have used my LD with my Belkin router and with a number of commercial Hotspots. Versmail setup okay and I've not had any probelms. But I have not tried WiFile yet. Given that you have a number of problems that other people have not seen then your LD is probably faulty (either hardware, software or both). The software problem could be eliminated with a hard reset. If this does make any difference I suggest you get the unit swapped. Please could you say which wireless router you're using to see if other people here have had probelms with that model.

If I press Media(or Photos & Video) with a Panasonic 32MB SD card in the card slot, Media crashes with Fatal Exception Error. The card has been formatted in the LD by Card Info....if I take it out, let the warm reboot happen, it runs fine. Put it back in and launch media, same fatal error.

I have a problem, everytime I hotsync the LD resets itself and says Slideshowtogo has caused an error.
The second problem is that the status bar gets unresponsive in some cases. For example if you try pairing the LD with a BT device and you don't open the grafitti area yourself, you can't open it, as the status bar doesn't respond.

One more. Go to Media app and try to do the info (stoke + I) on a picture that was preinstaled...kabooom...you get a soft reset. Luckily that's not the fact if you do the same thing by Menu -> File -> Details .
Some more beta testers for palm1 would defenitely kill these bugs.

I have had a similar issue with the Dell TrueMobile 1184 Wireless Broadband Router. My lifedrive shows I have connected, but I cannot open any webpages or receive any email. I have tried entering the ip addresses of websites and that didn't work. I think palm out to develop a fix for issues like this. I read somewhere that some tungsten c users had the same problem.

It's interesting how some routers and access points don't work with some wifi clients (ie. handhelds, laptops).
Maybe you people should try and upgrade the firmware of your router or access point, sometimes it helps.

I have been generally happy with the LifeDrive except that Versamail will NOT open properly. It resets the system every time. I note the PalmOne installation CD does not give the opportunity to reinstall Versamail onto the LifeDrive. There is an icon for it, but it leads nowhere....
I bought my LD two weeks ago in Boston, then came to San Francisco where I got it replaced because my screen would often be black when I turned it on. The new (replaced) LD has exactly the same problem- when I turn it on, the orange light lights up, clicks can be heard when I touch buttons, yet nothing is visible- only turning it off and on again helps- did anyone find a solution to this annoying bug?

Your LifeDrive's weren't defective.
I've had the problem, and it's not really a bug, it's a user issue.
Sometimes when you slide the on switch, the screen doesn't immediately respond. You'll think you didn't slide it enough and immediately slide it again.
What that does is turn the device on and off very quickly, and the LD doesn't like that. Most computers don't like that.
The fix is not to slide the slider more than once every few seconds. If you think you didn't slide it enough, wait a second or two before trying again.

Does anyone know any information about a possible software update from PalmOne for the LifeDrive. Something to address some of our issues. Great device just had some bugs that need ironing out. IE: Memory usage within the device itself.

In addition to many spontaneous resets, I'm having a problem on my LifeDrive that everytime I launch the "Files" program, the devices resets and I get an error fileregistry.c,line:843, missing large icon. I would guess this might be a third-party conflict, but I've stripped out almost everything with no luck. Anyone seen this or have a fix?
Thanks.

I have had this same issues with files as well as tapping the desktop icon twice in a row to cause a soft reset.
When I put in my SD from my camera and copy the files, I cannot see them from the multimedai aps. Where did they go?

Where do I start? I have never had problems with any Palm like I do with this one. (Owned M100, IIIC, M515, Zire 72, T3). This LD "quick" resets at least 2-3 times a day and wipes my saved pref. out (of course). I get different errors, but today's I can't fix--File Registry.c, Line :843, Missing Large Icon stops me cold. I can't "delete" Files (on ROM) to reload them as I have for any other error. Backupman doesn't even show the Rom files called "files." The actual ROM programs are there starting with FCCMLib; File Browser-PFil_en; File Browser Cache Lib; File Browser Lib-PFiA. I have a Files Icon. What do I try now?? Never had this before.
Hey folks...
I have read many lifedrive foruns and I am really scared of buying a LIFEDRIVE with all those problems....
But there is something that i never saw reported... I found out that there are 2 main "versions" of the lifedrive hardware: the 1044NA (mayne north america?) and the 1044ML (multilanguage?). I have also mase quite a research here in Brazil and I have not found many reports of those kind of errors in lifedrives in portuguese. Will it be a problem with NA devices? otherwise I should expect it occuring also in our ML devices here in Brazil. As I didnŽt find in any report what kind of lifedrive people are using, IŽd like to hear your thougths about it....
Thanks for the help
PS: IŽd apperciate if you could comment quicly... I am dying to decide whether buy a T5 or a lifedrive.... :-)

Hi,
If you're scared of the problems, you should rather decide for a T5. I already gave this advice to other persons before. To me, the technical problems that the LD has are fully acceptable, because they're "childhood sicknesses", due to the fact that it's a very new device, and I love fiddling with hardware and software until I am satisfied. But then again, I am engineer. I can see how a LD will become a pain in the *** for a non-technician, or for a technician who doesn't like to fiddle ;-)

Got my LD for just short of 2 weeks, with few soft resets with some 3rd party apps issues, but most are solved. Have had some problem with wi-fi connection (causes the unit to soft reset itself). Things were much improved after I have loaded the update from Palm. But still it seems it will just hang when connects to certain AP/router. There are certain places/coffee shop that I regularly goto, and I'm almost certain it will hang in particular shop, while it is all smooth surfing in other places.
I am having a MASSIVE PROBLEM...
You cant push more than one button at a time, this may not be a bug but I am praying it is. I am going to ask shark about this...
This spells doom for emulators and most games on this device...
Does anyone have any idea about this? I didn't find any replies to this post on this thread. I too would like to know whether you can use more than one button a time on the LifeDrive. :)

I think it's too soon to tell, however, someone has already stated that the high pitched whine appears in the LD if you underclock it to 312Mhzs or even if you slightly overclock it.
I know what that buzzing is!
It's the mini transformer in the LifeDrive converting power for the screen! (as it gets older it gets louder and will die of wear and tear :()
