I know this was probably brought up before....

I recently loaded dbIcon on my T665C and tried to run it.
Then I received the fatal exception and had to reset.
I already had HandyShopper and its Hi-Res icons loaded before loading dbIcon.

Did I do something wrong?
Also, when I'm in DateBk5, I can't seem to select any other icons other than the HandyShopper icons. I loaded several demo icon sets and can't find them.

I can't seem to figure this out.

Thanks for any help with my noobish questions.

Not sure if it would cause a reset or not but I do remeber being told to turn Hi Res assist off when using dbIcon.

Dont use dbIcon+, it only supports low res 8bit. Using anything 16bit in it crashes it, and and 8bit high res images result in notification that dbIcon does not recognise High Res. ( With the newer beta version in PimlicoDatebk forum, 16bit images now gives a message as well, instead of crashing.
You need Icon Manager wiith Sonyizer.

Icon manager makes Icons for Datebk5 and IAMBIC but, IAMBIC does not support High Res Icons for sony OS4.1 SonyHiRes,
Whilst the latest Beta of Datebk5 does.
Meaning your handyshopper icons can be used in this latest update.

Date bk is brilliant (the lite version of Datebk3 is used in Handsprings)

Both Datebk5 and Icon Manager, have special support for sony OS4.1 SonyHiRes. Icon Manager has the Sonyizer that removes the curcumstances where they crash, due to a bug in their ROM, namely every time they try to view a 16bit low Res icon images With Transparency. Icon Manager deals with that.

Good luck.

Good word, Ralph. Hey, your name seems familiar from the DateBK5 discussion group. Ever visited it at Yahoo?

I can't add much to this, except that I love my DateBK5 with high resolution fonts. They rock and really make my life better.

Ralph, Aaron and riversen, thanks for all of your help!

Just making sure: I need to download Icon Manager and Sonyize my HS icons.

Will this solve my not being able to see my demo icons in DateBk5?

Also, is the latest beta of DateBk5 relatively safe?

Yes it is safe. I am using it right now. There was a bug that the developer fixed within a day. Have you been to the DateBK5 forum? It is a great place to get some help. If not, I can give you the address. Enjoy.

The current Datebk5 is preview 9. It fixes a number of the icon spacing problems.

Agreed. Tanker Bob is definitely right. There is going to be another preview release coming out called pA, I believe. That one will fix even more bug... perfecting perfection... if that is possible. LOL

I just loaded beta build 5127 and noticed that 5129 came out.
Can I just load the newer build over the old one? Or do I need to delete the old beta?

Also, is there a difference between the "full" version at PalmGear and the "trial" betas?

Thanks again!

No and yes. You need to be registered. If you are, then the beta versions have all the "full" versions have. In fact, the beta version has more because you are trying out the new version of software with all of its upgrades before it is officially released. This does have some risk that your PDA may lock up because of some conflict that the programmer did not know about. That is the reason it is called beta testing. I am use the current p9 version. I know that the pA version is coming out very soon. The really nice thing about the DateBK5 beta is that it now uses high resolution icons and looks great!

I hope this helps,
Robert

Thanks for the info, Robert.

I have Icon Manager beta 5127 installed and plan to purchase the full version from PalmGear.
Can I use the reg. code for the full version on the beta?
Re: build 5129, can I just install that over 5127?

Also, does anybody have tips on managing/creating an icon set for DateBk5? I'm wondering if I should just create a blank default icon set for DateBk and copy over the ones I want. Are there better routes for managing icons?

Yes... all of my registration codes have worked on my betas... both IconMgr 1.2 and DateBK5 p9.

Enjoy.

1) By all means, register. The reg code works for betas.

2) I just started with the default DB5 icon set and worked from there. I used IconMgr to convert many of them to high density. I also took some from the HandyShopper set and a couple from the M3 set. I have 200 icons in the set now, but only use about 15 routinely.

High density looks great in DB5!

Tanker Bob,

Did I read correctly that you converted from low resol to high resol? If so, how was the quality? I have a ton of Icon sets that are low resol that I do not use, but did not think to convert? I guess you could they weren't repentant enough for me... lol. Okay, that was bad. Sorry.

Anyway, that is a great idea. Thanks.

I just tell them to turn or burn. :)

They come out OK, but I always edit them. IconMgr will bring them up in the editor automatically after converting them. Just smoothing out the lines makes a big difference.
