View Full Version : LifeDrive simple over/under clock utility

Greetings All,
This is a simple over/under-clocking utility for the LifeDrive that can overclock the CPU up to 520 MHz or down as low as 52 MHz. It is very primitive in comparison to LightSpeed or PXA Clocker, so I'm releasing it for free for anyone who wants to play with it until the aforementioned clock utilities are updated with LifeDrive support. This is not a stand-alone application, rather it is accessed through the Prefs application. It can set clock speeds from 52 - 520 MHz, and can be set to adjust the CPU speed after power cycles and resets.
There is also a tab for turning on or off the two pixel border around the LCD screen that is accessible if the graffiti area is not exposed.
Note: I'm providing this utility for free, with absolutely no warrantee or guarantee of fitness for any particular application. Play with it if you want to but do so at your own risk. I accept absolutely no responsibility for any loss of data or damage that might occur through use of this program, nor will I provide any kind of technical support for it.
Okay, after all that legal stuff, here's the goods: LifeDrive CPU Speed Controller (http://www.mobilevoodoo.com/lifedrive/LD_CPU_Speed.prc)

Good Idea Slinger. Save some battery life now. However I cannot find the tab to urn off the white border you mention. Do I have a old version?

warpSpeed will soon support LD too

I found the border setting.
I wanted to mention if I change the CPU speed faster or slower I get a high pitch kinda like screen noise. I have decided not to do any clocking just because of that. System Default for now.

Dmitry will likely fix this with his clock program. If you notice its page, it kills screen noise for most PDAs it runs on.

Dmitrygr,
Are you going to make a program to fix the ugly DIA icons on the LifeDrive too?

Slinger,
How hard would it be to write a version of this program that only turns on or off the two pixel border for other PXA generation 2 devices?
Since the life drive shares the same type of processor as the Zire72, Tungsten-E2 & T5 and the Treo 650 would it be do-able?
I know many people, including myself that would gladly pay for such a utility.
Thanks

I'm afraid it would be next to impossible. The only reason that it works on the LifeDrive is because Dmitry Grinberg was clever enough to be able to hack the hidden PalmOne API for turning the border on and off. The LifeDrive is the only PalmOne PDA that has this API so far.
I know that Picard (the author of TCPMP) was able to turn the border off on *certain* T3's (the one's that had Sharp screens), but he had to hack the processor directly at a pretty low level to do it.
Sorry... :(

Just wondering, how is that TI calc app going?

The good news is that it's not dead! The bad news is that it's currently in hibernation...
I've had so many changes (good changes, including family additions) happen in the last few months that I just haven't had much time to work on it. I hope to have a demo out relatively soon so people will actually believe I'm working on it, but it may be a while...

I sent you an email regarding the TI Calcs as well. I'm open for testing it as well on my UX. Your HP calcs worked perfectly on my UX.

Woops! I need to be a little more careful about giving credit to the right people...
It was CliePet who hacked the API. Sorry about that, CliePet! I really didn't mean to slight you in any way...

Cliepet does do everything else. To not take away any credit, it is a fairly easy find, since it is an included API, and only includes a few functions. Still, its really nice to have.

Does Power48 work on the LD?
Thank you very much.

Where is the "two picxel border" ? Lower left/right ??

Does Power48 work on the LD?
Hi, just thought I'd jump in and say that Power48 works GREAT, aside from a slightly higher tendency to lockup on the LD than my previous machine (Tungsten C).

now that the T5 has new firmware - is the white border now controllable? (I posted the same question in the other 2px border thread)
I find the border super distracting when watching movies on my T5

just found an answer at corecodec.com for the 2px border for TCPM... picard rocks.

Will the over/under clocker work for the TX?
