Are you sure it's not a driver issue? See other posts regarding MS drivers.

some ideas:
-have you tried putting the memory stick into another Clie to see if it works?
-if it is a duo memory stick or a single stick make sure the memory stick is unlocked (a small slider switch can be seen on the end of the memory stick; if a Duo stick make sure that you fick the switch to the side A or B and see if it makes a difference)
-failing the above, try to reformat the memory stick (caution: it may erase contents so you might want to use a memory stick reader to pull off the data first to your PC) If you have MissingSync this operation may be easier.
-you could try using the utilities such as ClieFiles or Filez or PowerRun to examine files on the memory stick
