I'm using UX-50 w/ 2GB MS. It works great.
Does anybody know or tried to put 4GB MS?

I didn't try but it doesn't work. More than 2GB requires FAT32 Formatting. The UX only has FAT formatting. Thus, won't work.

Actually thanks to Dmitry :), 4GB will work on the UX.
Look here...

I modded his FAT32 patch for the UX. That can be found here...

So after the patch was installed on UX, it will recognize FAT32 (4GB)?

I guess all my questions are answered on that previouse tread. But I guess MP3/Movie play is key role on using FAT32...
Thanks everybody.

How did you remove it.
@Everyone: The FAT32 will allow you to reconize FAT32-formatted cards. I don't have a 4GB so I am guessing it will work.
There is no slowness whatsoever. In fact, it makes the MS slot faster in reading the card. :)

Jamerican,
Do you have any movie file that I can test on 4GB, when I get 4GB?
I would like to get a movie clip for testing.

That cant be right. Did you reset after installation?
Hey Jamerican???
Is that really you posting above? I noticed that you were signed on as a guess! What happened to your name being capitalized and your "now famous" logo ID?
Forgive me but I'm somewhat sketical until I'm sure that it is you responding to our questions concerning the 4GB Memory Stick!

I posted some removal instructions in DG's original FAT32 thread; Too lazy to copy it here :p
SonyPenguin: Just a quick aside - FAT16 & FAT32 can only support 2GB files maximum; You could have 2x2GV files, but not one 4GB one - Need a more advanced FS like ext2/3 or NTFS. (FAT32 is a very lightweight FS - a LOT simpler than either of the other two)

Cyker,
If FAT32 doesn't support 4GB, what's it to use? The only reason that FAT32 is needed is to support more than 2GB capacity limitation.

Clarification: FAT32 supports drive sizes up to about 2 Terabytes IIRC, but for FILES the limit is still 2 Gigabytes.

i was just thinking, what if i instal this driver, then i insert a 4gb memory-stick, and on this memorystick there are about 1200 mp3 files in the audiofolder. how would audioplayer react to this? as you can see the filenumbers in audioplayer only have 3 digits. so 999 mp3s would be the maximum? or not?

Cyker,
Would you explain about 2GB limitation on FILES? Are you referring a single file?

froze: A Good question... you could make 1200 really small MP3s and try it out on a normal-sized MS :D
penguin:
Yes, single files :)
Basically, while FAT32 allows you to use bigger drive capacity, there are other filesystem limitations that limit file size.
For instance, you have a 4GB MS - If you try and copy a 4GB file onto it, it won't work.
However, if you split it into two 2GB files, you could copy both onto the stick and it'd work okay.
Incidentally, if you look at a DVD Video, the film is split into lots of 1GB files - I suspect it's to avoid potential problems with having 'Large files'.

That's clear enough.
I hope that the newer video codec comes around and compress MPEG4 to much lower data size. (I guess by the time, someone has to develope the codec for Clie too.)
And 4GB will be a perfect size for me. >>>> ;)
