Almost two years after the merger with Handspring and a name change from Palm Solutions Group to palmOne; change is again on the horizon. palmOne has agreed to pay PalmSource $30 million for their share of the trademarked name Palm.
Sounds like PalmSource needs a bit of help with their cash flow!

Well, PalmSource has how many licensees? It was nice to see that palmOne has committed to the platform. Now let's hope they do something good with it (and that PalmSource does whatever they need to do). I hope this sudden outlay of cash by palmOne doesn't mean they're not going to issue an updated ROM for the T5. ;)

What they are going to do with it is abandon it. They are moving to linux.

Until I see it, I'm not going to believe it. And from what I've read elsewhere, the PalmOS will still exist as an emulation layer on top of Linux. They're not abandoning the entire platform. The underlying OS might be Linux, but the user interface will still be Palm. Moving to Linux is supposed to help with the writing of device drivers and such.
