I have been lurking around and solved many questions without answer -which I had in my mind about the LD- thanks to your posts but there are a few questions which, from my point of view remain unclear (or at least I that have not read any info. about):

- Is the LD screen watchable outdoors? (I mean .. under direct sunlight) if not .. is it easier to read than a T3, T5, T|E2?
- Is brightness = 0% too bright for reading in darkness? (I love to read a bit in bed before sleeping, my T3 shines too much for reading at dark).
- Does the LD show the white two pixel frame around the screen? (this is particularly annoying in my T3, specially when reading at dark)

Battery life related questions:
(this tests ought to be done after a full night charge)
- For how long can you read ebooks from the SD card? and for how long from the harddrive? [Wifi, Bluetooth and IrDA off, and would be interesting to do a couple of tests: 1 - brightness at maximum, 2 - brightness at min.]
- For how long can you play music from the SD card without using headphones? (using the built-in speaker, using headphones the battery-life seems to be 6hours and 40minutes although I would also appreciate to repeat this test with currently selling units) [Wifi, Bluetooth and IrDA off, screen off]

I will really appreciate if any LD user answers some of these questions.

Thanking you in advance,

P.

Edit: It would be very interesting to know the exact amount of dynamic heap memory available on the LD.

There's a post of Picard saying that in the LD simulator the dynamic heap is around 5MBs, but .. is this reliable?. I would be completely sure if anyone who is owning a LD could check this theirselves.

I don't expect you to answer all the questions, but I'd be glad if anyone owning a LD could answer at least some of them.

Thanking you in advance again,

P.

> - Is the LD screen watchable outdoors? (I mean .. under direct sunlight) ...
IMHO no - IMHO no LCD screen can do that (especially with the glass shield)

> Is brightness = 0% too bright for reading in darkness?
IMHO yes (brighter than my T3 - both on 0%)

> Does the LD show the white two pixel frame around the screen?
Yes

Dynamic heap (AKA system heap) where programs store temporary data is 6MB (similar to the T5, but a lot smaller than the T3)

Storage heap (where programs and databases are stored) is 64MB (with a 10MB RAM cache)

isnt it a 32Mb DRAM cache or so you mean something else??

sorry cliepet, just saw your other post, you are refeering to system heap of 10mb (plus 6mb d heap and 10Mb ROM that come to 32 in total.)

sorry for the confusion!!

A 32MB DRAM chip - about 10MB used for a cache

> you are refeering to system heap of 10mb (plus 6mb d heap and 10Mb ROM that co1me to 32 in total.)
A little confusion on terminology.

The Dynamic heap is what I usually call the System Heap (called "System Memory" by the CLIE). Wiped out on a soft reset. 10->11 MB on the T3. Only 6MB (some in use) on the T5 and LifeDrive.

The Storage Heap (called "Program Memory" on the CLIE) is where programs and databases are stored. About 54MB of real RAM on the T3. 64MB of virtual memory on the LifeDrive.

For the lifedrive: 6MB of dynamic heap (System Memory) plus 16MB of ROM plus 10MB for the cache of the storage heap (Program Memory) = 32 MB of DRAM

Yes - by default -- but there is a new system trap to turn it to black [see other thread]

yup, crossed wires...I also meant storeage heap.....

phew, glad we cleared that up...

time for the meds!!
