We are about to go through a bit of a mailserver change at work, moving from a Linux mailserver to Exchange 2003. I have recently set up a few XDA IIs units (impressive machine... rubbish keyboard, my UX50 still rocks) to Server Activesync with Exchange 2003 over the web using SSL and it works very well. Does anyone know how to do this with a UX ?

we just switched from GroupWise to Exchange and I just use the Intellisync Lite that came with the UX50. It syncs over bluetooth so I don't need any USB cables or anything.
I believe that there are 3rd party solutions for syncing over the wireless network directly with the server but they are pretty expensive.

I think both the 650 Treo and the LifeDrive have a Palm version of ActiveSync in it -- you might be able to get it from someone who has those.
Actually, it would be awesome if someone with access to a LifeDrive could get it. (In case the Treo version utilises the mobile phone features -- which might make it not to work on simple Palms.)
Dataviz (DocsToGo) has licenced ActiveSync from MS a few months ago but hasn't released their product, yet. Palm doesn't offer ActiveSync in a standalone version, either, only bundled into a palmpilot unit.
Please do let me know if you have found a working ActiveSync prc.
It would finally be really good to access MS Exchange servers with a Palm without having a dedicated PC running somewhere

So far I found a couple of products that implement Activesync on Palm OS but no ideal solution.
There's Goodlink, www.good.com but they only seem to support Treos as far as Palm is concerned. There is also Dataviz Roadsync, www.dataviz.com who show the UX series on thier compatibility list. But I looked at the functionality matrix and this product only supports email and attachments syncing, not calendar or tasks. Which is pointless as I may as well continue using POP3 or IMAP4. I have emailed Dataviz to find out if they have any plans to implement calendar syncing..... I'll let you know thier response.
Anyone out there with a Lifedrive at all... ?

Thanks for that, looking forward to it. As far as I understand, dataviz hasn't yet released its product, so I wouldn't expect any extension to the services available for the UX. My intuition is they will first release a base version w/o the features you need, and when they covered most models with that, then they will think about extending functionality.
As for goodlink, it seems it needs a server at the corporate level so for many of us it won't be too useful. It could be for you, but the Treo issue is of course still there.
Sorry for not being more help :(

Well I emailed Dataviz twice, but have not had a reply from them. So that's reassuring isn't it !! Considering the volume of palm based devices out there, it surprises me that this software is not yet available . Hopefully another few months or so will see this change as the number of Exchange 2003 installations increases.

DataViz has released RoadSync public preview yesterday and it works just like Outlook. It needs VPN connection if Outlook needs it, does without if Outlook wouldn't need it either. Functions similar to other mail programs for Palm.
I signed up for notification list about a month or so ago and got a link to a form two days ago. Filled it in, next day I received the download link.
I think the form was similar to this: http://www.dataviz.com/eforms/betaprograms/roadsync/subscribe.html
(but you can look around the site for more info/other sign-up options; haven't had the time now to do that for you guys, sorry)
Cheers, k

Microsoft are making the synching of corporate data with Exchange 2003 as difficult as possible for non-MS PDAs, hence the difficulties you are having tracing the software you want.
If the PIM is your killer app, then you're going to find it easier to switch to a PPC device... :(

well, since RoadSync is working fine so I think you do not necessarily have to switch to PPC.
MS is also now licensing ActiveSync to Palm, Dataviz and others, so that MS attitude also seems to be from the past

Last week I finally received a response from Dataviz, it says that they are not planning to add Activesync support for Calendaring and Contacts which is disappointing. (see below). But with a bit of luck another company will do it.

Hi
I sincerely apologize for our delay in responding to your inquiry.
DataViz has been preparing for the official Technology Preview of
RoadSync (RS) that was announced last week. So far, the response has
been great!
We are happy to announce that the RS Technology Preview is now available
and would like to welcome you to obtain a copy. The preview is available
as a fully-functioning trial that expires after 90 days.
As you are aware, RS provides secure, wireless, and direct email
synchronization with Exchange Server 2003 via Microsoft's Exchange
ActiveSync protocol. This software provides companies with an
affordable way to easily implement wireless email connectivity to their
exchange server without the need for an expensive middleware server or
desktop redirector.
With RS, users can access their critical Outlook e-mail and data on
today's most popular mobile handsets such as the Sony Ericsson P-series,
palmOne Treo, Symbian Series 60 and Series 80, Motorola RAZR, and other
popular handheld models - anytime, anywhere.
Download RoadSync Preview Kit:
http://download.dataviz.com/roadsync/RoadSync_Preview_Kit.zip
Here are some steps to install the product:
Via Cradle Synchronization using PC Suite software:
Put your wireless device in the cradle and double-click the RS.sis file
that is in the folder. The PC Suite software will walk you through the
installation.
Via IR
On your wireless device, verify your IR port is turned ON. Start the IR
connection with your PC by aligning your device's IR port with the PC's
IR port. Once the connection is active you can beam the RoadSync.sis
application from your PC to the wireless device. On the PC, simply right
click on the RoadSync.sis file, select "Send To", and then select "A
nearby computer". Once the RoadSync.sis file is on your device, open it
to begin installation.
Via Bluetooth
Once you've paired your wireless device with your Bluetooth-equipped PC,
you can send the RoadSync.sis application from your PC to the device. On
the PC, simply right click on the RoadSync.sis file, select "Send To",
and then select "Bluetooth." Select the wireless device you want to send
RoadSync to. Once the RoadSync.sis file is on your device, open it to
begin installation.
Via expansion card
Using a card reader, you can copy the RoadSync.sis file to your
expansion card. After copying, insert the card into the wireless device,
browse to the folder with the installer, and open RoadSync.sis to begin
the installation.
It is our vision to provide the best solutions for our customers which
makes your feedback a very important component to our success. Please
respond with any feedback about your experiences with RoadSync as you
use it in your daily workflow. Your feedback will help us to develop
even better solutions.
To answer your question, there are no immediate plans to add wireless
calendar and contact support for palm OS.
Thank you for participating in our RoadSync technology preview and for
providing your feedback.
Special Notice!
Microsoft announced last week new wireless features that will be
available in the upcoming Service Pack 2 for Exchange Server 2003,
including support for "Push" e-mail and additional security
enhancements. DataViz will incorporate these main features into
RoadSync, following the release of Service Pack 2 in the fall of 2005.

so, to be clear, is ther eno pther product that can sync my UX50 with an Exchange Server and do more than just email ?
I've installed the trial of RoadSync and like it. I will consider buying it if there is no other solution (email only is better than nothing) but would rather find something that does everything.
Thanks
