Thanks Daver,
I have a TH55 and a 1gb MS. I looked at the size of the file which is pretty large. Do yoiu know if it will play well on my device via TCMP

daver

it should be fine. it plays well on my TH55 with TCPMP. but it's a wee bit choppy if you don't full screen it.

ok,
i think i've invited everyone up to this posting...

Grouper is still beta, it does work but certain factors can make downloading a large video file slow at times. New versions of Grouper keep getting released, thus it's getting better and better.

rumor says that "swarm/distributed downloads" are coming for Grouper in the next several weeks. This will greatly increase the speed for video downloading.

enjoy!

Clean up your email addies people..  :eek:very good point. but you see, all the movies i have are from DVDs that I have purchased with my own money. and according to all the laws, FBI warnings, etc etc etc that comes on all of the DVDs, by purchasing the DVD I am legally allowed to do anything I want to it so long as I don't redistribute it, or do anything to it for money. since i'm not reselling the movies I own, the MPAA can't do anything about it as I'm abiding by their rules/laws/whatever you wish to call them.

By sharing them on grouper, you are clearly violating every rule you just mentioned, regardless of the fact that you own the DVD. Correct me if I'm wrong, but to be on the grouper file share, you've got to share your files.

Not that I'm going to report you, but you've made it very, very, very easy to get yourselves into a butt load of trouble..

Unless you invite an MPAA member into your grouper group, you dont have a problem. They cant get you because they think you may be doing it, they have to have proof. I do have to agree that it is clearly illegal to distribute your movies over grouper. The "legitimate" use would be to convert movie previews for use, as these are not going to get you into trouble. I dont think any movie company ever sued someone for promoting their movies for them.

There are lists of MPAA and RIAA email addresses posted up all over the internet. So, they could check.

Do you think they would sign up with john.doe@mpaa.org? Come on.. if they wanted to bust you, they'd make up a quick dummie account to get in..

Saying that there is a list of email addies to watch for is as good as expecting a bank robber to come in wearing a tshirt that says "bank robber".

Not that I'm going to report you, but you've made it very, very, very easy to get yourselves into a butt load of trouble..according to what you mentioned... then lending my friend one of my DVDs or Xbox games would be violating the rules too. as long as i clearly state that my intentions are only to allow friends to view the movies i've purchased on VHS or DVD, and not charging them any amounts of money for it, i can say that the MPAA should have provided more clear rules to abide by. there are none on their website saying that video sharing among friends is illegal.

They would probably say that you should not lend out your movies. You own a liscense to one copy of the movie, and technically that means that there should not be a possibility for more than one person to be watching your movie at the same time. On fair use rights, you can keep copies of your media (they would argue against that) for backup. Thats about the limitations of what you can legally do.

of course they can say that, but i can counter by saying the DVD does not include any warnings saying that i cannot lend my DVD to my cousin or friend for the weekend because they wanted to watch... Hostage or some other brand new movie just out on DVD. And if you visit their website, they do not publicly mention that lending a DVD to a friend is forbidden by law. Software comes with a billion licenses keeping the owner from doing whatever they want with it (unless it's open source of course!). DVDs and VHS movies don't have all the paperwork like software does saying that I can't do this or that to it, obviously within reason.

now I'm going to crawl into a cave and not come out for the next week.

jjesusfreak01
06-29-2005, 07:59 PM
Legally, I believe you can lend your movies to whomever you want, that is not disputed. Im just saying they probably dont want you to do it, as it may keep your friends from buying the movie. At least you dont have to go through 15 pages of EULA before playing your DVDs.

You are completely allowed to lend your DVD to a friend. You cannot lend him a copy. The law states that you can do whatever you want with your dvd, as long as it can only be viewed by one person at a time. Thus, multiple copies, cannot be viewed at the same time. Making copies, and distributing them online, regardless of ownership of the DVD breaks every law.

My point is, I don't care what you do with the files, but your posting the email addies for everyone to see, on an open forum with no registration needed, is a really really nice invite to get into legal trouble. You know the fun someone could have with them? Somebody's parents obviously forgot to tell them not to talk to strangers (aka, don't post your email addie where others can abuse it)

but don't you think those types of people would be having more fun with other things instead of playing around with our e-mail addies? seems kind of boring spamming people if you ask me... it's old now isn't it?

LOL, the MPAA&RIAA as one post. Brilliant. Hehe, And what keeps the MPAA and RIAA from finding your real name anyways. If they want it they'll get it. Good thing I live in Canada where we pay taxes to be able to steal stuff. Canada rocks!

There's too much crap going on up in Canada that the MPAA and RIAA really don't have time to deal with us yet. As soon as they finish their crack down on China, they'll move on to the US, and then Canada. That is only if we don't pelt them with hockey pucks and cows before they can cross our border!
