I picked up my Lifedrive on Saturday from Compusa.

First word of advice: If you are moving from a Sony NX-80 to a LD copy all your data to a backup directory and delete palm desktop BEFORE installing the Lifedrive S/W. It took me a couple Hard resets to dig myself out of that hole.

The unit has pretty decent battery life but the "case" (sheath) that comes with it doesn't help the battery life. I carry the unit in my front pocket and just walking/sitting puts enough pressure on the front buttons to turn it on! The star key seems to be the biggest offender. I have to shut it down and lock it to prevent "premature activation". With my old NX-80 I'd just close up the screen and put it in my pocket. In two minutes It would turn itself off with no problems.

The first company that comes up with a thin case that protects the front buttons will be getting some money from me.

Not a big fan of the lag but my NX-80 was getting long in the tooth and the LD looked so neat......

Anyone have any advice on how to easily rip DVDs and play them on the LD?

isnt there supposed to be a lock on the power button which will help solve this problem? :)

How long did your hard reset take? I had to do one (as we speak) and it has been almost an hour.

Yes, the slide switch will enable you to either lock the device on or lock it off or lock it on with the screen off to play MP3 via Pocket Tunes.

IMHO, this is the type of switch that should have been included on all P1 devices to avoid errant "on's".

Hard Reset takes 5-10 min max.

Wish there was a way to turn off the ability for the front buttons to turn on the machine. Wonder if there are any hacks out there that might work?

Not to echo what others have said, but doesn't the lock on the power switch do exactly that (and more)?

Piel Frama offers a hand-made leather case for the lifedrive. I prefer the Piel Frama design and would recommend it to everyone, but I understand that others might not want to pay a little extra to get a better quality product.
