With a nod to Runner7395 for pilfering this thread's title :)
After a weekend of using the LD, I like it a lot.
- The LD Manager under windows is a handy means of syncing expansion memory and the PC. This resolves a long requirement on the OS to sync files on cards. With PC side folders corresponding to the LD's it seems like the easiest means to transfer bulk data back and forth while also keeping it backed up. After losing the data on an SD card I had a weekely reminder to manually bak it up on my PC -- no longer needed.
- Built in wireless resolves the "what, no memory on the PalmOne WiFi card?" problem. I had to keep all Internet related apps in RAM and use a RAMDISK to enable downloading non-PDB or PRC files. Not a problem now.
- 4GB is a nice size to allow me to carry everything with me without swapping cards and the n second delay isn't a problem. The paging algorithms seem to do a good job keeping currently "in use" programs and data in whatever RAM is really installed (64 Meg is virtual, right?) Storing everything on an SD card and loading it all in via ZLauncher had an n second delay on my Zire so I'm used to it.
- I'll probably pick up an SDIO camera if they're still being made. Some Web sites show them but the driver dates seem years old.
- Downside:
--> Resets take a long time.
--> I've never successfully been able to dump things en masse from my old PDA to the new one without tediously installing a few apps and data at a time. It took a bit to get everything moved over.
--> It breaks the syncing ability I had going with Linux. I expect that'll be temporary.
Two cents worth (maybe),
Frank
