Could someone run down the uses for Bluetooth? I have the TG50, which I'm thinking of keeping (at least until the NX85 arrives) and I'd like to know exactly what use Bluetooth is. FOr mobile use I understand there are onbly two phones that have BT at present (Sony T68i and a Siemans). It'll work for home LAN things if you have a (cheap?) BT adapter (works off USB 2.0?) in your PC. Otherwise-- ?

So I don't get it. The TG50 also has infrared, I believe, so there are lots of ways to use that wirelessly already (though it requires specific phones and head-to-head line-of-sight connection).

Failing that, you can get a cable connect to your phone for a dime and a cup of coffee, or $15 from the supply place (lost the URL, sorry).

So I'm wondering what is the big deal about BT?

Please to enlighten me. Since I have it already in teh TG50 I'd like to love it adn be impressed, but I'm not. I'm hoping it's my slowness.

I have just figure out a use yesterday.
I send a lot of SMS during uni lecture. everytime i have to pull out my mobile and type my message on the annoying keypad. But if i have bluetooth, i can leave my mobile in the pocket, just use my already on the table BT enabled TG-50 to send SMS with the keyboard through Monkey SMS!! really handy ....now i need is a BT mobile......

Yeah, I was thinking along the same lines. My t68i has Bluetooth. I have unlimited SMS messenging, and an e-mail address associated with my SMS. So I can send e-mails from my TG50 through the t68i. Now, I have to figure out if I can also receive them on the TG50 through the t68i.

Another use is syncing without any wires. Some laptops don't come with an IR port these days. If you've got a USB Bluetooth dongle (I have two), you can sync to your laptop without needing a "line of site" orientation between the IR transmitter and receiver.

Sony touts that you can use the Bluetooth capability to control Bluetooth-enabled cameras and camcorders (but I don't think there are many made of either as of now).

U can also dial a number using the built in address book and also send a file to another BT enabled PDA using mcfile... BTW, u can also go online using GPRS.

Cheers,
Alan

You can use Bluetooth for Internet access from your home, too. You might be interested in my experiences doing this.

Jay,

Go to http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/support/clie/conwiz/softupdates/index.html and download the Mobile Connection Wizard. This will automatically setup a wireless profile and load it upon your next sync. Once synced, you simply chose the connection you want and connect.

As far as using the Clie to dial your T68i; the Clie addressbook supports this natively once you pair your phone with the Clie. Go into AddressBook, select Options>Prefences and enable "Tap to dial". Simply hold your stylus on the entry for 3 seconds and it will auto dial the contact over bluetooth.

You might want to consider an app called Tapdial as well. It creates icons for contacts you use often and displays them on the Clie desktop. One tap and it dials. Very smooth. Best of all it's only $9.95.

i use a bluetooth usb adapter with my tg to surf the web & check email from my living room/bedroom away from my pc like i was using wifi. in fact, i'm posting from my tg now. even cooler is using a bt phone while you're out as others have said.
