I can't believe Microsoft can't run their own games in their own pcs.

Actually it is more common than most believe. Most console technologies share architecture and processing capability at about 80-90% with one of the major computer manufacturers or another. The first Xbox demos were given with PCs and prototype Geforce boards rather than the actual console. This means nothing about the companies other than clues as to the inwards architecture.
Sometimes it is no more than cases it is early prototype boards tossed in available cases. Still it means little in either case. Consoles are based on PC architectures to save money, they share technologies to reduce costs and improve performance per dollar in mass-produced capability. It's worth a chuckle, but really means nothing.

Nice pics. I've been reading about this all week, but only found some fuzzy images of the G5. But at leas MS wasn't hiding it. But how are they going to release the console this year, if their systems aren't even ready?
On this note, remember the "Phantom" game console. Well at E3 last year, their demo units all had these big eighties looking Sony stereo tuners next to each one, anyways it was big enough to hide the PC that was really powering each console.
MS is blowing it big time. The should've left it only a game machine and not have made the system it's replacing look better.

Actually the Xbox is set apart from "normal" Microsoft activities. Basically the developers can do whatever they want to develop and market the Xbox.
I don't think MS is "blowing it big time." In fact, I see the Xbox 360 succeed this time around -- the Xbox is here to just set everything up for round 2. :D

Did you see the E3 event? After watching it, I was more impressed with the Xbox than the 360, which really had nothing to show. Oh, there was virtual-girl. Some marketing spew about how the girl that hates gaming, will design levels I'm interested in playing. To me, this is blowing it big time. ;) And there's thet medie-center thing, Microsoft kind of had me on PowerPC, but lost me on that.
The PS3 wowed me, so if Sony can keep their promises and didn't fiddle with the graphics through post-production, I'll gladly by a PS3 making it hte second Playstation I've owned. And it will be a great pedestal fo my Revolution. :)

I read that the pair of G5s were used to support the demos because they used the same processer architecture as the G5s. something like that. Don't remember where I read it though.
Seems viable. I don't see it as a big deal.

that's exactly the thing. Consoles are based on PC designs, both feed each other. We all win by these technological advancements no matter who breaks it, or what hardware. Competition is great. The PC boards coming out at the same time will be loads of fun because these are great. :) hehehe can't wait.

LMAO!!!!!!!!! Microsoft can't even use their own systems. They had to use systems that were more stable, secure and had a great graphics engine. LOL

I think that says something if the XBox 360 demos needed two G5's to run, that is a lot of power. But bad coverup on microsoft's part

except it has not been a coverup. This has been done before, and is no surprise. They have the design for the new Xbox 360, they have settled on all the architecture pieces, but it won't exist for a few more months. Therefore you have to run on it's parent architecture box. This is how it has always been, it is just so long between cycles that we forget. They brought out the full specs, everyone knows what it will be like, now they have to drum up interest, the only way to do that is to provide demos. So you reconfigure the nearest architecture to provide that demo. IBM has done this from the 1970's, in fact there are quite a few wonderful jokes from that age about "IBM demos" that leave me chuckling just thinking about it.
If they had an XBox 360 to test with, we wouldn't have to wait until Christmas buying season to see them. :)

Demos are demos. They can be beefed up or slimed down. Xbox could have put two systems there just to make it suspicious. If they wanted to, they could have turned the systems to the back or even cover it up so you wouldn't see the systems. I doubt you need two G5 that have 8GB each to run a system that has only 522MB of RAM. Also, the graphics shown is not that of the XBox 360 but the actual Apple system itself. So, Microsoft is just advertising for Apple. One more thing, Microsoft could have used Alienwares for their demos. In the end, I think its a fluke. I think Microsoft did that on purpose to make it seem as if the demos were running of two G5 to show how much "greater" the small XBOX360 is. Also, by playing two G5s together, next to a small XBOX360. No one sees it for its true size.

Well the big ones also look like ____. :) I grabbed them from xchod.., i mean xbox.com. For some reason they think their product design is nice and like to show off their vomit.
That's not what power the Xbox, then it would the most powerfull system ever. Behold the real "power" (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=bullshit) behind the Xbox.

I dont think that Alienware systems could have performed the same way that a Powermac would have. Remember, if these were top of the line Powermacs, they would have 2 processors in each of them. Also, microsoft may have wanted their game to run as smooth as possible. Using the windows operating system would not be a wise idea since it takes up a lot of memory. Just booting up my pc takes ~200mb of ram and I have no spyware/adware/viruses. With a UNIX system like OSX, a considerably less amount of memory is used to run the system. Overall, microsoft needs to tighten their belts. More and more people are switching to macs nowadays and many third world countries are switching from windows to Linux. I think that since people saw lack luster performance from microsoft, when people actually get their 360, they would be happier with it. Although it is still disappointing to see microsoft use apple products.
