I went to CompUSA yesterday to check out the LD. I was amazed by all of the features and could not put it down! One thing I strted noticing was that it started to get real warm over time. Warm to the point that it might be overheating. With this be a problem?

I bought the LD yesterday and after using mine quite a bit last night I can tell you that it stayed "warm" but never approached "hot".

I also bought one and it does get a little on the warm side but not even close to how warm my Treo650 gets when I'm talking on it.

I went to sample the LD at CompUSA as well but only used the displayed one. Couldn't hold it :(. It was laggy to me even though nothing was really on it. Someone should place the PalmOne Skin for PocketTunes in the Freeware section.

This is likely due to the HD - They generate a surprising amount of heat.
The 400MHz CPU won't help either...
I wouldn't worry about it 'tho.

I checked out the LifeDrive at my local CompUSA as well. First impression: what a brick? That device is huge. I looked at the specs comparing it to the hx4705, and they said that the LD was only .1 inch thicker. I beg to differ. I compared it physically to the 4705 sitting right next to it, and it is twice as thick. It was easily the largest PDA in the store, and didn't seem to fit in my hand as well even with the tapered sides. I played with it for awhile, it seems not that differnet from the T5. I was suprised that they don't ship a cradle with it. I don't know of any vendors who are not shipping cradles the their flagship products. Even the rz3715 has a cradle with it and is $100 less. I was seriously dumping my hx4705, but the LD just doesn't show me enough to make the swap. I'd rather have a device with 4gb ram as oppposed to a 4gb hard drive.

Well, I actually begin to be pissed off about my cradle for a few reasons that I discussed on my blog some time ago. Find it here:

To cut a long story short-cradle and landscape....
Cradle is too big if you wanna do drive mode at school or so...

Re cradles :
I've also always liked cradles but now agree with what you wrote on your blog Tam H. - If you have stuff to do but need a recharge, it's not easy to do much with the pda in a cradle....and a T3 - which I have - needs lots of charging !....I use a charge & sync cable mostly now - though it still charges better & quicker on the cradle - so if I have to go out & need a quick charge I use that. But that's because the cradle is mains powered & not usb port powered, which is less powerful for charging I gather.
Cradles are a mixed blessing. When I wanted to take my Palm on travels I bought a travel charger because I didn't want the bulk of the cradle to cart about - in that respect a smaller travel type charger with the initial purchase is better. As usual it depends on your needs.

the LifeDrive??? at first yes, but after the initial reports of the HD being erased during a "hard reset" -- no way... DEFINITELY no way...
who would want to restore around 4GB of data???
