Okay, so I'm drooling. The LD looks fabulous; fully loaded and full bore. I'm also broke....

So I'm wondering: what if I outfit my lowly "yesterday's news" T3 with a 2gb SD card? Would I have the po' boy's LifeDrive?

I would still be missing....

-WiFi (ouch!)
-2gb of storage (ouch, ouch!)

But I would KEEP...

-Uber-small size & weight
-Speed (no waiting for hd to spin up)
-64mb of genuine RAM
-Vibrating alaram (okay-no big deal)
-About $200

There's a 2gb SD card @ Powermax for $179.88. http://powermax.com/cgi-global/generate_css_temp.cgi?p=e92375

P.S. Am bracing self for flames, rants & other expressions love and approbation from my friends @ 1Src....

Kinda sad that a user has to say that...

This used to be one of the best forums anywhere... What happened guys?

Yep. But it's $99.99 (on sale!), and has no mbs or gbs of storage.

They sell a WiFi / 256 MB combo, but i am unsure if {p1's} drivers work.

Hey, if your T3+2Gb card fills your needs, then there's no reason to buy an LD. People love to get hung up on "if it isn't right for me, it isn't right for anybody." Hence the PPC/POS fights that always erupt.

For me, the LD is pretty near perfect. I only have about 1,000 songs I listen to regularly, I have a T2 with most apps launching from the SD card, so I'm used to any delay, and I have a Wifi house and work, so it would be great to be connected wherever I am.

Figure out what works for you, and go for it without listening to narrow-minded naysayers.

I think you have a smart plan. If you later decide to upgrade to a LD, you can always sell the 2gb SD and your T3. Or you can keep the SD and use with the LD or whichever new PDA you upgrade to. In my opinion, even the 4gb HDD of the LD is way too small for serious MP3, photo, and video enthusiasts. If iPod can come with a 30+gb HDD, why can't an LD. Just another case of P1 being too late with too little.

If palmOne put a 30gb HD in there, it would cost $800. They aren't going to sell anywhere near as many of these as Apple will iPods, so they can't rely on the volume that Apple can. Sure, it would then appeal to 'music enthusiasts,' but their sales would be pitiful.

The LD is not an anything-killer. It's a jack of all trades, king of none. If you need a jack, it's for you. If you need a king, it's not.

Jack:

The notes from the NYPUG seemed to indicate that this is the FIRST of a line of products in the LD family. It could be that there will be something with a larger HD in the future.

What I would personally like is something that would be like the Epson P2000 in HD size (20GB), yet have the PDA functionality so that I wouldn't need to carry two devices. My new Digicam captures 14-17MB images, so UBER storage is a must...

I'm into digital photography and I would like to see a device with PDA/computer functionality, higher resolution screen that is actually viewable and crisp outdoors (the LD screen isn't regardless of what they say), so I can download and view my photos without having to lug around a laptop. I doubt we will ever see such a device from P1. P1 is more interested in a younger target group that is interested in multimedia entertainment. That's fine, but it won't get them any more my money as I'm more interested in a true business friendly professional device.

BTW: To view photos or videos on a 320x480 washed out screen is marginally okay. But when your camera takes photos that are over 30 times that resolution, it is a waste of time. No PDA I've ever owned could adequately display photos. We need a much higher resolution screen for that.
