So...The Lifedrive has camera support, yet you cant connect a camera directly to it? Since Palm doesn't make cameras, this means its camera support is nothing more then what already out there in the dozens of picture viewing programs out there.

While not having usb host, it would be nice it its supported Pictbridge for quick and dirty uploading to the device (card compatibility not required). I guess it will find a home with people that money to burn.

I still may wind up getting one, only if i can find good gps software, and have all my maps in the device at once.

A little OT, but did anyone notice that PDA Mexico's LifeDrive...is NOT the current LifeDrive? Take a look at the very first pic with the magazine and the sunglasses...the top says "Tungsten|...". Looks like this was one of the pre-release models...

This accessory is not a camera. It is used to transfer files from cameras to the LifeDrive. Basically, you connect the digital camera via its USB cable to to USB-on-the-Go box, and connect another cable from thr box to the LifeDrive.

I would think that you will be able to access USB flash drives and USB hard drives with this device. :D

So, I suppose that this thing is really just a host usb processor since when you plug in a usb cord into most digital cameras, it automatically switches to Mass Storage Device mode so that you can access the camera's memory through a computer. If this is true and this thing just acts as the middle-man just as a computer would (camera>Box/computer>pda), then there seems to be a lot more potential here than for this one intended purpose. Hopefully somebody else sees this as well.

Either way, basically what I am saying is that (if left unhindered by pda mexico) this thing could essentially connect any two mobile devices together and allow them to communicate with each other.
For a couple of examples, I'll use the beloved UX50:
UX & a jump drive
UX & any other usb pda
UX & a card reader or card acceessory (SD FM radio, etc.)
(of course) UX & a digital camera
(and possibly even) UX & an ext. CD/DVD player or Floppy drive

Well, maybe I'm just dreaming, but from what I've been told, the only thing that keeps pdas with a usb port from doing all of these things is that their processors are not able to handle both its own functions and the other devices' functions, not to mention the power required. And, well, this thing seems to fix this little problem, (as I said) as long as pda mexico hasn't specified their device to only handle cameras and only connect to the lifedrive.

Well, I can still dream.

This is a logical companion to LD. You can discharge your photos directly to LD, without a computer around. Or use your LD as a MP3 repo and copy them to your MP3 flash player for jogging.

Hope on LD 2 this functionality is built-in :)

I agree that this should have been built-into the LD, but I won't complain.

If it's relatively cheap, then it may be worth it. Says it's an LED display, so that means cheap.

It also says it's compatible with various MP3 players, etc. Wonder if that means that you can hook up the LD to an MP3 player to move music back and forth. Again, that's something that should have been built into the LD.

But the compatibility might mean that you can hook up different devices to each other, which would mean that P1 is marketing this to anyone who would like a device to act as a USB host. That could also mean that with it, you could use a full-size keyboard or other peripherals.

Something that Apple also ome up with for their ipod photo...but ipod photo 30/60 GB seems more suited than the 4GB of the Lifedrive... If you own a multi-megapixel cam,, chances are your storage card is allso multimega/gigabyte too.

This thing looks like much more than a camera connector to me. Why does it have a screen? and what are the tree buttons at the top? Are they buttons or are they rca jacks? and If so could this be a video capture device? Just some observations, anyone who knows more about it may be able to clarify.

There have been several products over the past two years that allow you to dump just use your 64 M card in your camera, dump it into the box, and take more photos. The box stores the photos (with its own hd) and you can upload them to you computer later.

On this box the "Screen" is nothing but led idiot(status) lights, has no HD, and has two USB "a" connectors, meaning the box is probebly nothing more than a big and expensive host mode translator thing that probebly only does cameras, talking specific athena talk on the connector to the palm.

The megapixels don't matter. Data is transfered to the LD to the limit of available memory. Note however that the LD will NOT support RAW files.

Screw that camera adapter! What I want to see is a video-out accessory that will allow you to play vids off the Lifedrive onto a TV screen!!! :D The multiconnector already supports video-out and it should only be a short while before something like this comes out!!!

Wow. Shouldn't that have been available when the LifeDrive was debuted becasue all those who buy the LifeDrive might not read 1src, Engadget, and so on, so how would they know to buy this extra appliance? Poor marketing.

Yup I too am waiting for a video-out thingy-me-bob. Being able to display my pics and videos on a normal TV screen would be a very very good thing for me - it would make my job much simpler. Hope they bring that to market soon.
