View Full Version : Looks like a ZL beta is soon available for testing.
Here is from the YahooGroup: There was a correction and it should state 3.00b1 not 2.30b1.
Dear Group,
Received a test version of the new 2.30 B 1. Many changes have been
made, here is Li's list that he included in the email:
1) Changed "UI Mode" to "Tab Mode" in the "ZL Preferences" form.
Now you can posit tab titles on all sides of the screen, even
can specify no tab titles, and the "Compact UI Mode" was removed.
2) Added ability to toggle the "Top Bar".
3) Divided "Top&Bottom Bar Setup" into "Top Bar Setup" and
"Bottom Bar Setup", now you also can customize the Top Bar,
all funtion buttons on the "Bottom Bar" also can be placed
on the "Top Bar".
4) Added ability to hide the "Toggle Bottom Bar" button, it's also
available for the "Toggle Top Bar" button.
5) Changed the "Launch HotSync" button to "HotSync" icon, now it
will perform the HotSync operation rather than launching "HotSync"
application.
6) Added support for sending files via Bluetooth/SMS/VersaMail.
7) Added and option to initialize the category informatioon from the
system launcher.
8) Added function buttons: Beam, Send, Theme Manager, File Manager
If you are insterested in it, please give it a try, and let me know
how it runs on your handheld.
Please note, since this beta version is not well tested on all
handheld
models, it may damage the data on your handheld. Try this beta
version
AT YOUR OWN RISK. Backing up data of your handheld and read the
"Readme.txt" carefully before running this beta is recommended.
Please note, in order to have icons for the added funtion buttons as
seen in #8, you must use an updated default skin. You can use these
functions with your old skins but you will have to guess where they
are on the top or bottom bar.
I will upload the file to the file section.
Best Regards,
Jason

No problem. Let me tell you it is fun to play with and there is a button just for the file manager now:) Though people have not made this specific button when skinning so it ends up being a little blank spot:(

Please note that ZZTechs has asked that this beta not be posted. Here's what they said in the beta letter: "However, since we are still working on it, please keep silent about this beta until it's stable enough to be published.". Since someone else has already mentioned it, it's no secret any more, but we should respect their wishes about posting.
If anyone wants to be an official beta tester, I suggest an e-mail to ZZTechs. That's what I did.

I honestly don't know what else I would like to see, this version is SOOOO nice!! Maybe tab-specific settings, though I'm not sure if I would use those anymore, since I like the backgrounds so much. But with top and bottom bars, each with buttons, I have so many buttons displayed now, even with space between some to break them up. I now have battery and memory on top, where I think it's easier to see. And the file manager was just as good as any commercial file manager available, and now that there's a button so that a single-click will open it, I may not ever use the others!!! This version is amazing!!!

Well, CopperDeckII works, Including the side tabs, but doesn't yet have tool icons for the file manager and a few other new tools, or the top bar closing arrow. I reverted to the new AquawoodXP until CDII catches up.

I checked it out...if the theme's not ready for the tabs in another position, they'll be orange...like the Aquawood theme...when you choose one.
Otherwise, this version is da BOMB!

I'm simply blown away. I've never gotten more for $12 in my life. When 2.30 came out, I deleted both Filez and McFile from my NR and haven't looked back. I've never been a great fan of tabs, but I might actually use these occasionally. Even though they removed "Compact Mode", it is still there. Just set it up with the top bar setup. The only thing I've found so far that I would change (and it is a real nit) is changing tab modes, the screen always defaults to 320x320 on my NR, meaning I HAVE to tap the VG control arrow to switch back to full screen. And that is such a struggle I don't know if I can continue to cope.

I have modified Honolulus low res WinXP skin to work with this 3.00 version. The blue side tabs that I had to fix up dont match the other tabs as well yet, but they look good anyways. And I was able to add in the new function buttons into the theme using Constructor. I fixed up everything basically to work with 3.00 except the tabs arent perfect. This is for low res only, so if anybody wants it, just drop an e-mail to me at jrhultima@aol.com and Ill be happy to send it. Cya.

I think at least I've found a bug for this release.
When set to Transparent UI, the background image will shift down a little bit(about the height of the tool bar), while part of the background image will show up at the top tool bar location. This make the background looks very funny, unless you don't set any background image.
Try and see if yours is the same.
I tried this on my SJ30.
tanker_bob
03-27-2003, 11:13 PM
That's true, but you can easily fix it by dismissing the top or bottom bar and reinstating them. The problem is that the background is drawn starting at the bottom of the top bar instead of at the top of the screen when initially changed. I reported it to ZZTech earlier today.
You'll also find that the active tab loses its icon on right or left tabs, but works fine on the top or bottom. I've encountered no stability issues, though. I love the new file manager tool and increased customizability of the top and bottom bars. All the old skins will have to be updated, though.

But after running any other app, and return back to ZLauncher, the screen returns to normal.
The above only happens when I just select a new background. Hope I'm not the only one here.

Hi, those of you on this thread can probably answer my question about ZLauncher. I will soon have my new NX70V. In the meantime I am trying ZLauncher on my Visor Prism (I also have SilverScreen).
On the Prism, just after I tap a program icon there is a flash of some black lines or space before the program loads and then the same flash again upon exit. The opening of programs is now much slower than with SilverScreen.
Has anyone witnessed this? Does this happen on the NX70V? Hopefully it is only a Visor issue.
Thank you.

This turns out to be an intended feature. Here's the reply from ZZTechs on that issue:
In order to display more characters of the tab title text, the active tab icon will not be displayed when the tabs are on left/right.
Makes sense to me. The top bar transparency issue will be resolved in the next release.

I'm confused (easily!)...The comments say the "rar" files are in 2 parts, just unpack them into the same directory. Yet both parts appear to be the same file. Looking at both files with PRCExplorer, I can't find any difference. Is there some subtle difference or was the wrong part 2 uploaded?

They are churning out new features at such incredible rate.
Its the best $12 I've ever spent in my life.
Thumbs up!
I was hoping for them to add a feature such that I can move icons aside just like that in Yishow.
If thats included in the next release, it will be a bonus.
So is it possible with v3.0 to have tab mode AND a full bottom tool bar of selected gadgets?

I just sent a note to ZZTechs. I too continue to be amazed with the stability of their versions, beta or otherwise. The only "issue" I found was that as I was experimenting with all the different tab options, the display would not correct itself to my no-tab setup until I exited ZLauncher and re-started. Not an earthshattering issue.
I've made some suggestions as to where options go on the various setup dialogs. I can get just about any combination that I can think of. I can't wait for the skin producers to upgrade the icons for the new options.

Actually, Transparent UI only toggles the top and bottom bars between transparent and not transparent.

I just purchased my ZLauncher on Thursday last week and thought that I was going to be disappointed because there weren't any other skins. I have found a gold mine. I am not happy that I bought it.
My question is with the waiting view that shows the very unclear Please Wait. I would like a high resolution one if possible. Any suggestions for the best one. You can e-mail ZZTechs at zlauncher@zztechs.com .
The 'Please Wait' screen is hi-res depending on the theme. For some reason the free themes that come with ZLauncher don't have that screen hi-res. You can turn that screen off though by unchecking the option to auto-scan the /Palm/Launcher folder. It will give you a speed increase too.
As for the .RAR files, look for WinRAR. It works just like WinZip and it not only opens .RAR files, but .ZIP and other types of compressed files.

Sheen Just a warning that this has changed in the b2 version, so when everyone upgrades, you need to be aware of this. Now the top bar location works the same as the bottom bar, so if you put icons in the far right boxes, that's where they'll show up unless you have info gadgets covering the entire top of the screen.

Now the top bar location works the same as the bottom bar, so if you put icons in the far right boxes, that's where they'll show up unless you have info gadgets covering the entire top of the screen.
They sent me b2, but with the b1 changes listed so I had no idea what was changed.

Good. Thought that was a little strange... ;)

Actually, the lefty support for the Path Tree wasn't listed on the B1 new features list. I expect everything else was a bug fix.

One other new change is that if you press the jog dial in File Manager, it toggles between RAM and Card view, just like McFile works.

Anyone able to get the "view AcidImage files in Zlauncher" feature working? I can't find ANY documentation other than on the Red Mercury site stating that it works.

If you have one of the latest versions of AI (latest is 2.5r6), then if you click on an image in the card tab of ZL, it will open in AI, then when you hit the close button in AI, it takes you back to ZL. It's very cool!!

COOL!!!!!!!
The trick is to open the Display Setip screen and check the "Support AcidImage" checkbox.
Thanks!
This is excellent!!!!!

Am I the only one that misses the compact UI mode? I got so used to not seeing the tabs on the screen and being able to tap the drop-down in the upper, right hand corner when I needed it. It made my screen very clutter-free. The option to use no tabs isn't as good because you have to cycle through them to get to a tab further down on the list.
Has anyone found a way to get the functionality of the compact UI mode?
BTW, ZLauncher is awesome. I love how the innovation doesn't stop!!
Thanks,
MarkY

Go to top bar setup, select "Category", to be displayed, and then in in zl preferences, choose "none", under tab mode. Works just like before with these settings.

I haven't seen b2 yet, but in b1, just select none for tabs and set up your top bar with category selected. Compact mode isn't really gone.

Beta 2 fixes all the display issues I found, fixes the way the top tool bar works with tools, and adds a tool that access all tools for display and execution. The latter will require another update to existing skins to add that tool. There is still an outstanding bug that comes up as a sys error when trying to drag a file back to its current category using the tab panel. It's harmless, but should be fixed.

No, I'm sorry. Their email specifically says "Since we are still working on it, please do not distribute this beta until it's stable enough to be published" and I'll respect their wishes on this. If you can't wait, I would contact them directly and see if they'll send you a copy. Otherwise, I haven't heard of any stability issues with this beta, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a public beta in the next day or so.

You just post the screenshot, then it needs to be approved by a moderator, so it may take awhile to show up. If you have a hosting site available, you can place the screenshot there and use the IMG tags in your post, and it will then show up immediately.

You can also post screenshots in your gallery and link to the shot here in the forum with the img tag.

Is there any way to change some of the icons used on the Top and Bottom bars to something more "Palm" or "Clie" looking? The current ZL3 themes all seem to be Windows-centric in look. While they are EXCELLENTLY done themes, I would prefer to move away from the Windows/PocketPC look. For example, just replace the the up/down arrows used to toggle the Tool and Control Panels with arrows like those used on rldunn's theme, and then replace the "four-color Windows" graphic used to pop down the Menu with something more Palm or Clie in look.
OK, OK, I COULD just try my hand at creating my own theme, but that's for another day. Obviously, more themes will surface in time.
By the way, thanks to all of you for all your hard work in keeping up with ZLauncher's developers!!! ;)

CopperDeckII's tool and system icons are decidedly not Windows-looking, but not Palm-centric either. CDII is my primary skin, but I change around to others every once in a while for variety.

check out the skins on this thread (http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?amp;threadid=4853).
some of the coolest skins i've ever seen. they don't mimic pc or mac.
very minimalist, very professional, very elegant.

I have a question again. I downloaded the beta version, but it was significantly slower on my T665. I then re-installed the 2.3 version back on my Clie. I love the beta, but why is it so slow. Last night someone made one easy recommendation about scanning my Memory Stick and unchecking that option every time I go to my launcher. I have not checked this, but it seems to take a long time to open when it loaded the top bar. Any thoughts or is there a need to index this routine?
Thanks for your thoughts,
Robert

There was no speed difference on my T665C. If the autosync box is unchecked, then it might help to look through the other settings and see if anything changed.

It was not necessarily a speed difference as it was an extra pause for the Top bar to load. I really don't want this when I am switching back and forth from so many applications. I want to see my launcher right away in the same way that I do in the 2.3 version. Maybe, I have inhaled too much liquid paper and don't know what I am talking about, but I thought that I noticed this to a point that it was not quite as fast as the earlier version.

I have an nr70v(same t665c processor, 66mhx dragonball super vz) and havn't noticed any speed difference. Go through your settings, just mess around with them. Also, as a side, I highly recommend easylaunch for quick application switching, it's free, fast, and I'd die without it. Find it at palmgear or something, cheers

Does anyone have a blackand white theme for the new ZL version? I've gotten the program file but don't know where to find this theme?
Thanx
