After some comparison, it seems the NX80V, a device a few year old still hold a candle to the Lifedrive...

It may not have Wifi, but that can be remedied with a Wifi CF card. Pop in a big memory stick, or CF card (if you don't mind the extra thickness) and you could get capacity approximating the Lifedrive.

No bluetooth, yeah. A bummer if you live in Asia or Europe but not much of an issue in the USA, since Wifi hotspot are more popular means of connectivity there...

The NX80V seems to have better or comparable battery life even if it has a smaller battery... Most proprietary sound API issues has been remedied by the MCA2 drivers, and you get a 1.2 megapixel camera to boot...

Sure as a game device, the Lifedrive will have better buttons, but I don't think many want to play 'arcade' style game on their PDA, for those I'll get a PSP or even a Win Mobile device... Stylus based games works just find for both devices...

Lifedrive has 0 RAM apparently...the NX80 has 16MB plus another 16MB ROM hidden and accessible via Jackflash shareware...so that's 32MB...

It's getting harder to justify my upgrading from my 2-year old NX80V to a Lifedrive...

PLUS, For those of us who got a good deal on the Clie Memorystick Recorder, unless there is a way to convert those movie files over to something the LifeDrive can play, I guess I too will stick with my NX80...I love being able to EASILY record shows and movies from the TV, and then watch them on my Clie! It has saved MANY a long trip from being really boring! (It has also entertained quite number of nieces and nephews!)

Sorry guys but you seem to have missed the point. Lifedrive has 4GB of HDD, a reputed 64MB RAM and how that is further broken down will become clear as reviews are printed over the next week or more. The idea is that this will have more than enough memory for most people.
Lifedrive has Wifi so you can sync over a wifi network at home… even in Europe we have this freaky weird technology and so only need bluetooth to talk to our mobile phones. Yes, we even have those!! You may find this hard to believe but we do have these things.

If you need a 1.2MP camera, buy something else, this is a business tool and not a school toy. I have a UX50 and don’t use the camera because its completely pants. The Sony Erricson cam phome is out soon with a 2MP camera, that might suit your requirement better with the NX80.
It also seems like someone should explain the difference between MB and GB…. Hard drive 4,000,000,000 - NX80 32,000,000
Lifedrive also has 64,000,000bytes of internal memory for running apps.
Palm seem to be trying to accommodate two different sets of users here, business users for docs and schedules and others for music and video, it wont be better than an iPOD but will be good enough and should be applauded. I cant wait for the next one with more RAM than a field of sheep and a f-off big HDD.

Yeah, hard Drive is 4GB, but you could get a 2GB memory stick, and a 2 GB CF card if space is that important...

And the NX80 has 32MB of real RAM not hard Disk partition RAM that is slower...

I cant wait for the next one with more RAM than a field of sheep and a f-off big HDD.
Yeah, wait another year, if PalmOne ever put it out...

The 1.2MP built-in cam of the NX80 is way better than most...sure its not as good as digicams standalone, but it's one less gadget top carry and its swivel style is great for candid shots...

If your NX80 hasn't fallen apart yet (it shouldn't, if you look after it), I don't see any point in replacing it with the LifeDrive yet. 4G storage is not earth-shattering for someone owning a dual slot PDA with CF compatibility.
Processor speed is not a real concern on a PDA; I underclock my 200MHz PXA263 for most apps without any discernible difference, preferring longer battery life to blazing processor speed!
I don't understand Palm1's concern about volatile memory; my battery has never been completely depleted in over 12 month of use. Installing a good back-up program should alleviate any remaining fears. If you're a person that leaves his PDA in a drawer for extended periods of time, you'd probably be better off owning a Treo, iPod or Gameboy anyway!
Palm1 is catching up to Sony's stunning PDAs, but needs to come up with a 1.3M camera version to seduce diehard Clie fanatics, like me!

PalmOne does have a 1.2mp camera/PDA (zire 72), its just that the Zire 72 camera is so poor that unless you are outdoors and its sunny, the camera will return grainy and dark photos.

Not to mention, Sony's swiveling design makes the PDA easier to hold and use...

The only real advantages I see to the Lifedrive over the NX80 are:
1) Builtin Wifi.
2) Builtin Bluetooth
3) Storage space. It is my understanding the NX80 doesn't support FAT32 and therefore can't use any storage cards greater than 2gb. With your Wifi card in one slot, that leaves only 2gb max external storage.

I still love my NX80, but the Lifedrive comes up short as a replacement of my Dell Axim X50V.

2 GB storage is plenty for most users. Besides, I don't keep my WiFi card in the slot all the time, instead swapping it for large memory CF cards as required. No worries here about bad sectors, crashing heads, etc...
A 4GB HD afterall, can hardly be used as a vault for professional photographers snapping away with 8M cameras equipped with fast 2-4GB CF cards or CF micro HDs,
Make a LifeDrive with a 20GB HD and then people will pay attention.
