View Full Version : What apps should be made for LifeDrive?

LifeDrive isn't out yet, but not long after it is, the many talented Palm OS programmers will begin making apps and hacks especially for it. What apps do you think will, or should, be made for it?
I think we will inevitably see a new version of SkinDIA! for it, for the many people who wish to change their DIA. It will need to support the new WiFi icon, as well as the absence of a rotate icon. Perhaps it will allow the use of T3/T5 DIAs on the LifeDrive? Only time will tell, but I know I'd be willing to shell out another 8 bucks for it.
I also think we will see a slew of hacks to control the new "Rotate" button. Many may prefer to have it only activate on press-and-hold (if it doesn't already). Some may also want to map it as a power button, as many don't like power switches. (Sort of like THeGo!Go! (sp?) for the TH55). It could also be changed to launch some sort of application.
Some fool will hack the PalmOne WiFi card drivers to work with the LD, even though it already has WiFi built-in. Why, do you ask? Because not everything has to make sense. :D

A good no-frills low power consuming mp3 player! pockettunes and aeroplayer consumes way too much power, 4 hours audio playback from a 1660 mAh spells inefficient, an ipod has just 600-750 mAh and it will play for 15 hours!

Anybody with palmOne contact, so I can ask for a sample device helping in TCPMP development? :)

Hi Picard. TCPMP is a number 1 app for a life drive. Can't imagine what 4gigs can be used for anything except movies and songs. And, by the way - one can ditch the built-in media app, it's usless anyway :-)

I agree. Core would be one of the perfect ownages on this device. Can you all imagine? 4Gigs worth of Anime all encoded nicely!? Thats like... 4 / 5 seasons ! :D PLEASE!

You know, this TCPMP is sounding pretty good. Where can I get it?

Any app that minimizes the drag of the HD. Something that lets you designate certain programs to always be in RAM. Anything that allows you to have better control over Pocket Tunes using the hardward buttons (hear me PT?)

Wow, yeah, and an Underclocking, or something to reduce processor to the least power consumption needed in each program...
We need to get more out of this battery. Its huge, and we should have a huge life on it!
BTW, If any of the reviewers see this thread or whatever, can you tell us what the screen on lowest brightness / minimal wifi / no media tasks battery life is like?
You know, like a PDA is supposed to be :D

I've got it! An application that lets you load applications from an SD card instead of from the HD. That loading will be much faster and should allieviate all the delay issues we're all hearing about.
Actually, is there an app that let's you run any application directly from an SD now? If so, wouldn't that be the saving grace?

A really good FTP/SSH file server and website creation app. Think Dreamweaver, PalmOS version.

Ok, we also need something that allows us to reassign the "Home" button.
Also, Palm needs to give us an update that allows us to hard reset without clearing the HD.

You already have it. Look for ButtonsEx on freewarepalm.

As I've explained before, this is a security feature that makes the devices easier to sell to the Feds.

I reassign Home with Hi-Launcher :). Also, why doesn't PalmOne make switch on the bottom of the device that allows you to select if you want your device's HD to be cleared upon reset or not. That should have been implemented. It should not be assumed that you want your HD cleared every time you reset. My UX's Int. Media (although not a HD) doesn't clear upon hard reset and I'm happy for that.

They should at least give us an option of whether we want to wipe the HD with a Hard Reset. Perhaps you can only hard reset without wiping the HD if you put in your password, otherwise, everything gets wiped.

I tried to reassign home with Hi-Launcher, but for some reason it won't stay assigned. If this is something that PalmOne put in as another security feature, I'll be very depressed.

How about if your on the road and your device crashes (seeing as it lags anyway). So you have to hard reset. You loose the report you would have brought to work, the essay for your final exam at school and your songs. That sucks. I most definately not getting one now.
