I just got my new TG50 a couple of days ago. It's my first handheld. It's awesome! I would like to know if I should buy the screen protector or not, since it has a flip cover to protect the screen when not in use. Thanks for your input.

Yes, you should definitely get one. Although the flip cover will protect the screen when the unit isn't on, you should have a screen protector so you don't scratch the screen with the stylus.

I just got finished trimming down a T-615c screen protector to make a temporary one for my TG50 until I can get my hands one that was made for the TG50. And I have't even turned on teh TG50 for the first time yet.

My screen is so scratched, yet my Vx has had no scratches in 2 years!

I hope these scratches will come out before I can go and buy a screen protector.

Are there any differences in the visual appearance of the screen with the sony screen protector applied? I'm just wondering if it noticeably reduces clarity, etc. or makes things worse when used outdoors.

A screen protector is a must to all touch screen PDA. The flip cover and the screen protector are two totally different things. The cover protect your Clie from more serious damage, while the screen protector protect your screen from scratch of stylus.

i used the screen protectors that came with the TAP that i bought at compUSA... i had to trim it down.

i feel better that i put it on but will replace it with a 'clearer' one.

the one that came with the kit really doesn't look good. it really makes the screen look grainy.

my sj30 had scratches in the graffit area - made me wish i had used a screen protector... so, for the tg50 i used what i had!!!

mine look ok with a brando on. In fact I will say that the first accessory that you should buy after gettig ur PDA is a screen protector.

I bought the $10 one specifically made by Sony (whatever that means), and the quality is good (it better be). However, I actually felt kind of stupid/crazy for the fact that I am paying $10 for a little piece of plastic...

I don't agree that a screen protector is necessary. I've used one sporadically, but it definitely decreases the clarity of the screen. I've been careful with my screen and stylus, and I don't have any visible scratches.

With long usage, you will eventually get some. That was the acse wi my old Palm Vx. With the protector, I can use my built-in stylus (i.e., finger nail) more freely.

It decreases the clarity a bit, but not much.

I'm planning to purhase the 10 dollar screen protector made by Sony just for my brand new 1 day old out of the box, TG50. But 10 dollars seems to be a very steep price for one piece of plastic. I was hoping it would have been a pack of protective covers or something. Considering it's Sony, it's bound to be somewhat of a good quality product. After looking at the bill of my TG50 which I got out the door price of 399.99 from Amazon.com, I've switched to a conservative view on everything =(. It's going to be awhile before I start spending moderately again. Afraid of having my screen scratched permanently, I'm positively going to buy it.
