...AMD announced that in addition to being the computer processing force behind the making of Star Wars: Episode III, it is also the technology sponsor of the Star Wars: Episode III "Celebration Day" event taking place Monday, May 16 in London's Leicester Square.

Ok, I just made it kosher to have a thread about episode III now. So who has tickets? Me and my friend are going to the very first show (May 19th, 00:01 A.M.) :D

LOL. It was weird though. I was going to a party around 10:00 p.m. last thursday, when they said in the radio there were only 57 tickets left in the city and in a theater I was just driving by. So long story short, they would only sell me two tickets :).

Twas fun, and there was lots of Nintendo DS's in the theater. I even logged on and played Mario 64 with some peep 2 rows behind me.

I will see this movie again and was inspired to watch the original 3 again.

OMG!!! It is amazing. You know what, I wonder if Lucas really made the first 2 movies crap for us to appreciate this, well if he did, it worked!! It worked so well, I think its best one out of the entire 6 movies! Just goes to show, Miracles do happen. ^_^

I used Fandango to order 2 tickets a couple of weeks ago for the midnight showing.

CAUTION, SPOLIER:

Some continuity things I liked:

- Padme's first scene: Princess Lea's hairdo
- After the Anakin-Obiwan duel, Obiwan gets Anakin's light saber before he leaves. He gives it to Luke on Episode IV.
- Yoda tells Obiwan that hey have made contact with Quigon-Jin. That's how Obiwan makes contact with Luke later on when he dies -- "Use the force Luke!"
- Great Darth Vader reconstruction scene. His robotic legs explains why he is taller. LOL.

I didn't do poo, my friend called and said he had an extra ticket. :p What's scary, is that the first 7 showings were sold out, so there were a billion peeps waiting in line even when we left at 2:30 am.

Acoustics inside the helmet. There's a different environment in there... probably a reverse-Helium gas effect. Remember how it hisses when the helmet's opened? :D

Saw it last night at midnight. Sith was great, but not as good as ESB. That's the best of the six by far. But I could be biased as I am a child of the 80's and all things Star Wars especially Han Solo. I did like the Chewbaca tie in and Yoda was killer as always.

As for Vader's voice, Argon has the opposite effect of Helium. It makes your voice much lower. But don't try that at home because unlike helium, argon is heavier than air and will NOT leave your lungs unless you hang upside down. Basically you can suffocate in seconds.

Anakin and Obiwan didn't even break a sweat fighting on top of that lava thing. :D

The Force blocks out sweat and can even extinguish bodily fire. The Force can also provide temporary protection from extreme drops or slams :) The Force also provides amazing grip strength (count how many scenes in all six episodes feature a Jedi clinging from the edge of something?) :D This grip strength is god-like, similar to Kratos' (those who play God of War would know this).

I was thinking the same thing about the fire. I was thinking that the force just helped to lift the jedi, so not only do they have the ability to jump higher, but also climb easier. :)

I have now seen it thrice. I know...sad.

I was not going to dress up for the opening, but I was goaded into it. I ended going as the emperor. As tixx here well knows, I strongly desire to control this world and have it bow to my will...I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me.

The Force blocks out sweat
That is commonly called "heat stroke" -- when the body's ability to produce sweat stops, it overheats, causing the medical condition known as "heat stroke". :)

Unless the force acts like a giant heat pipe.... ;)

Well, Homer Simpson wasn't exactly what I was thinking....mostly, I just wanted to stand up and scream maniacally "IT'S ALIVE!!!" This was definitely the worst scene of the film. I know some sort of breakdown was necessary, but did it need to be so 'Frankenstein'?!?!? Shackled to the table, stumbling off of the table drunkenly, raising the arms in the air and screaming "NOOOOOOOOO!"...c'mon, that's straight out of Frankenstein. A little too cheeseball for me. Perhaps if they would not have had the shackles, it wouldn't have been quite so bad.

That being said, I loved it! Way better than the first two, quite possibly better than "A New Hope" in scale and grandiose.

Anyone else notice how obviously computer-generated Grand Moff Tarkin is at the end? Obviously they had to, the actor who played him is dead, but it was pretty bad.

Anyway, just my thoughts.

They didn't have to.... There exist celebrity look-alikes, and with makeup, especially since you need a "younger" one, a proper talent search is far more useful. However, I think the reasoning was more in honor of the individual actor who played the original. No living person could stand in his shoes, so to honor him and his legacy, they opted for computer generated rather than a substitute for the actor.

I agree, that makes sense. I just hate the way CG characters always look like they're made of silly putty or something! :-p

we're still over a decade from making a realistic moving artificial CG person. We can make some pretty realistic stills, using lots of cheats, and aliens/creatures we don't see day-to-day are easy. But those human features we subtly recognize are the hardest to do.

I was able to tell easily when there was CG in a shot. A couple times it didn't look so great, other times, it was pretty good.

Saw it opening night. Pretty good I'd say. I didn't really much care for Ep1, and I really disliked Ep2, but this one felt a lot better. Maybe cause it was the end. Who knows.

To be honest, I didn't recognize Tarkin as a CG character. I just assumed it was some look-alike actor that was good enough so that I immediately recognized him as Tarkin.

I watched it again and chuckeled when Vader yelled Nooooooooo, because of your Homer comment. :)

And this time when I watched Yoda dodge the the senate seats, i thought he looked like a frog hopping from point to point.

I couldn't find Lucas. :( I forgot to look for him in the beghining though.

Is is just me, or does Emperor Palpatine come off as a child molestor?

A friend of mine who happens to live in a cave the past 28 years ask me...which is a better way to watch the full Star Wars series....In the way they are made. Or in the timeline order I-VI

I preferred the way they are made, since they show the progression of special effects though the retouched DVD version has altered-UP the special effects of the earlier films too...

I recommended to my Sister in Law today that she watch them in the numerical order 1-6. (yes, she actually has been living under a rock. sheesh, english majors, I tell 'ya)

If you watch them the way we watched them, you get two different story lines, one of Luke and Lea, and one of Anakin. George wanted / wants it to be one story of the rise, fall and redemption of Anakin. He really was the one to bring balance to the force and destroy the Sith. He just had to destroy (almost) the Jedi to do it.

Hey! I had that encoded for TCPMP on my TH55 and was showing it to some people before the start of the film :D

My fav. bit was where the tank is heading for the wookie, who screams like a girl and then starts picking up all the lego pieces.
Camera flashes back to the tank speeding at him, the when it switches back to the wookie he's built a rocket launcher out of the stray bricks! :D

Hilarious :D

I quite liked Sith - It was a lot better than the first two.

The acting and dialog were still crap (A friend who'd seen it already said to me "Ignore EVERYTHING Padme says", and he was bloody right...), but the story/plot somehow conveyed itself despite this and I enjoyed it quite a lot!

Things that ruled:
Yoda!: He dragged himself back from the terminally comical (and not in a funny way) travesty he was made to look like in Clones and, actually kicked some *** this time! The thing with the two imperial guardsmen was gold :D

Starship Battle: Ahhh, I always love a good space battle. Not many come close to the awesome goodness of Returnof the Jedi, but this wasn't too far off. So much happening in the background!

Sidious: Definitely one of the better acted parts of the film, I really got the whole crazed meglomaniacal psycho vibe from him. And the thing about how his face got that way was a clever touch! (And here was me thinking he was just very *very* old in the original films :p)

Lightsabre fights: They just keep taking it to new levels!
My only gripe is that the blaster deflections the jedi do still look really wrong. Watch how Mark Hamil does it in the early ones - You can almost *feel* the force of the bolt as it splashes off the blade. In all the new films, they just wave their sabres around almost casually - You get no sense that the bolt is being deflected off the blade at all :(

Anakin & Obiwan: Now THAT is a lightsabre fight!

The Plot Twist: "Execute order 66" - A plot twist can make or break a movie, and this was definitely a good one! I'm a bit saddened by how all the jedi got thwacked so easily, but the twist was just such a deviously good one!

Music and Sound effects: These tend to get overlooked in a lot of films; I'm glad Lucas is not following that tradition! Another excellent score!

Things that bombed:
Windu vs Palpatine: Oh. My. God. It was like watching two geriactrics fighting with walking sticks! And a blind man could tell when the CGI sections cut in because they'd suddenly fight really well for a second, then return to the geriatric fighting mode. They should have gotten more training... or at least a pair of really good stunt doubles...
Even amatures have put out better sabre fights than that! (See Ryan vs Dorkman at theforce.net. It is 'most impressive'.)
I mean, Windu was supposed to be one of the greatest sabre dualists ever to exist at the time! It really didn't show...
If he didn't want to get all sweaty like Anakin and Obiwan, they should have modeled him after Aoish from the Kenshin anime or something. Be a Badass without having to move much and while looking totally cool and calm :D

Wookies: I... they... ugh...

Anakin & Padme: George! Learn how to write dialog better! PLEASE!!!

Beru/Lars: It started off okay, but 'Beru's fixed grin was really really freaking me out... My only condolence is that I know that they don't get killed by Stormtroopers in IV, but in fact she blows them both up with a thermal detonator after going totally psycho. (Thank you Kevin Rubio! :p :D)

Nooooo: I almost cry, thinking about how pathetic this came across... he's Darth freakin' Vader! The image of JEJ saying that into a mike makes me want to laugh 'tho so it balances out. It wasn't a good line to begin with, but whatever the line it *should* have been full of powerful emotion - Angst, Rage, Pain, Hate. Instead we get Wuss, Whine and Whinge.

Despite the niggles, it's definitely worth seeing, if only for the sense of closure. The story is carried across really well despite the dodgy bits.
