As I came into work this morning... and came directly to the ClieSource website ..... I saw there was an article for review of QuickOffice Premier 7.0.

I figured what the heck.... I'm game for a little education and to see how it stacked up to other Document applications like Documents-2-Go ... or readers like the Picsel Viewer and RepliGo.

I was a little disappointed at first because the review did no real comparrisons. Secondly it seemed the tests were run against a little 'older' device (although it doesn't seem a m505 is that old to me).

Anyway... Nice review but A statement in there puzzled me. I figured This was the best place to ask questions .... so I would.

It seems QuickOffice Premier 7.0 has the ability to read native .doc, .xls, .ppt ...etc files. No conversion program is needed (similary to what Documents2Go has) ... No desktop program really necessary as you can just use Hotsync or MS Import.

While this seems like a very good thing ..... I read one of the replies to the review.. and here is the quote:

"I have a Clie NX70 and QO7 works great for me. My only complaint is that you can not save changes maded to the files in their native format. When this capability is released in the next update, this will be THE killer app for Palm OS 5 devices. " - Anonymous

I guess I'm a little confused here. If QuickOffice is stating a major strength of their software is that it can access native files from your PC .... then why can it not write changes to them???????

It seems you would either have to only view the files..... or to make changes and save them you would have to save it as some other type of file. This seems a bit silly to me to replicate the number of files you have on your PDA.... but what do I know. That is why I'm asking this group of Propeller heads.

Not sure who that guy is or what he was smoking at the time, but QO7 will allow you to edit documents in their native format. By default, they are read only when you open the native file, but you just tap on the edit button at the top of the toolbar and wallah - you can edit the native files. Hope this helps!
