I read the thread about setting up bluetooth for a PC. But how do I enable internet surfing using a bluetooth usb dongle plugged into my iMac, OS-X?

That web site is currently not responding.

However, I read it earlier, and if I recall correctly, it says that you must disable the Bluetooth-pad-sync serial port in HotSync Manager, and then set the serial port using Terminal.

However, I depend on the Bluetooth-pad-sync serial port to sync my Clie--so is it an either-or choice? Or is there some way to do both without resetting things each time?

If it is choice between one or the other, I choose synching--simply because I can do browsing and e-mail just as easily from my Mac, which, after all, is right there....

OK, Technohappymeal just came back online, and I did recall correctly. They say that you have to make sure that "Hotsync is not using the Bluetooth-PDA-Sync port that should have been created when you paired your devices." Then the multi-step process involving Terminal to set things up.

And further on down the page ("Sharing Your Mac's Internet Connection via Bluetooth"), it states that "If you need to HotSync again or use your Bluetooth for something else..." and then goes on to explain a tedious multi-step process before you can sync again.

So does anyone know a way in which you can both sync and surf without major hassle?

Gah. Okay, I didn't realise it was that bad. Haven't actually recieved my Clie yet (damn Amazon).

Ah well. I'll be doing most of my 'browsing' via iSilo... but I would like to use ICQ or AIM on my Clie via Bluetooth.

I'm new to the world of bluetooth. thinking of getting a pda with bluetooth capability. wondering if i can do the following:

I have a 17inch G4 Mac with airport extreme (803.11g) that sits connected wirelessly to our T1 connection at work (I'm an ER doc). Picture this: I would like to be connected to the internet while at the bedside (looking up relevant medical websites etc) using the bluetooth function from the TG-50 back to my Mac (at the center of the ER in the nursing station). It seems this can be done but maybe theres a fatal flaw to my logic.

Is there a better PDA that connects a little more smoothly to MAC?

And, does anyone know if Mail 1.0 syncs with any of the PDA?

Thanks

There's a fatal flaw to your plan: Bluetooth has a range of about 10-20 feet.

If you want to take advantage of your Airport system, you should look into adding an 802.11b Memory Stick to any OS 4+ device, or the WiFi CF card to the new NX and NZ series Clies. That'll give you the range and connectivity you need.

Unfortunatley, the CF equipped Clies are expensive, and the WiFi Memory Sticks aren't available yet. :(
