I would like to buy a game system for my children this summer and was wondering which system might be best for kids in the 6 to 8 year old range.
I guess what I really mean is which system has the best game selection for that age group.
I'm not a gamer so I have no clue.
Thanks in advance for your advice.

Game cube would be my bet. It has a lot of 'kiddy and cutesy' games, like Pokemon Dash, Mario Party Games, Mario Kart, etc. Can always trust with Nintendo to not forget the kids like Sony and MicroS has done.

Yeah, Gamecube is the perfect choice. -You do mean console, right?
But GC is not limited to just "childish games" - Eternal Darkness and Resident Evil 4 (Both rated mature) are great games that are geared for older crowds.
That and GC is the cheapest of the bunch, which im sure youll be glad to hear.
Another vote for a Gamecube. :)

Yes, I meant a console. Thanks. :)
And yes, I'm also glad to hear it's the cheapest.

Definately the XBox. They've been known to "crush" children and adult's feet. :)
Ok, that was a lie. GameCube. They're also built sturdy. And here's a great kid's game. (http://www.gamecrazy.com/games/game.aspx?id=6881), that's only on the GameCube.

:)
Well, at least the "adult-kids" like it. :)
Sereiously, here are a few games that are an absolute blas for all ages;
Mario Party (http://www.gamecrazy.com/games/game.aspx?id=5085) I like 4 the best and still haven't tried 6. Even though me and my friends played Halo for a few months, we've played this series about 10 fold more. Halo got old, where as this game can always be replayed. This is one of the few games that can be enjoyed by everyone.
Mario Kart (http://www.gamecrazy.com/games/game.aspx?id=456) This is more challenging, but is soooo much fun.
Zelda: Wind Waker (http://www.gamecrazy.com/games/game.aspx?id=88#review) I think that your 6 year old will be able to play this in a year or 2, if not now. It's an amazing game and some areas look like they were pulled right out of a John Bluth animation.
There are allot more great games to choose from.
I really like the GameCube, because it doesn't just tailor to the repetive FSP wannabes that plague the other systems. Nintendo is the only company that I know of that will turn away developers, if their quality isn't up to Nintendo's standards.

And add Super Smash Brothers Melee to that list. Its rated everyone, and although it is a cartoonish fighter, it is amazing fun - and guess what - theres no gore. Just great gameplay.

As of now, Katamari Damacy is only available on PS2 - though there is a brand new version coming out for the Nintendo DS!
