Silk Skin misunderstanding.

Hey everyone. How are you on this lovely FREEZING day (if you're in new england)?

I just have a few questions about silk screen plugins and whatnot.

Now I hear of all you talking about the silk skin, and I've tried downloading some and they all just seem to be jpgs. Are the jpgs what you use?

And also, do you HAVE TO use third party programs? I see the forth button over on the status bar lets you change silks, but do those have to be done through third party or can you do it without extra programs. Do the files you load onto your nx70 prcs or jpgs.

The kind of plugin or whatever that I want to use are the ones with the numbers on the left side of silk that you just have to press, and it has the cut and copy buttons on it. Is there anything special I need to do?

And also, someone please explain how to change status bar plugins or whatever you have to do.

I know this has been discussed many times before, but because of the "big crash" all threads were lost, and I didn't have time to look into it.

I would REALLY appreciate the help and any links or suggestions on prgrams to use or whatever. Thanx a lot

I don't know if your aware, there is a forum just for skins and backgrounds. This is not a flame, just didn't know if you knew.:)

I wish I had the answers to these questions, but I don't. I'm still pretty new to the NX.

NO. You don't HAVE to use a 3rd party program as long as you use status and VG skins made specifically for the NX. I know of no NX Tappad skins (the one with the numbers you mentioned) at this time. Photoskin (available at Palmgear) allows you to use NR skins on the NX. It works VERY well. You will need Tappad if you want to use a skin with numbers on the numeric graffiti side. (I've never tried it, and don't know if it's available for the NX)

If you want to use an NX status or graffiti skin, simply install them and reset your machine. The new ones will show up when it comes back on.

You need to go HERE (http://www.cliesource.com/sdownload/index.php?op=showfiles&catid=17&sortby=date&sortorder=DESC) to download graffiti & status bar skins. Click on the box with the red arrow, and it will download the prc (or zip) file to you. Jpgs will not work . . . did you download backgrounds maybe? Or did you right click to save?

That's fine, just thought I'd make him aware. I found out last night the skin Guru's were hanging out in that forum. In my reply I specifically stated that it was not a flame, so it wouldn't be construed as such, sorry.

The skins with the numbers are the ones that got download, not right clicked, and where jpgs.

Does anyone know if tappad works for the nx and where to get it.

And Does anyone know if there are any skins for the Cliè Lancher? I'm sick of it being so grey. If I wanted to see grey I would have spent $400 less.

Tappad is incompatible with OS5 at this moment, hopefully they will update it soon.

I'd like to see the VG Files section made into two sub-sections, NR and NX. I know the NR skins can work with the NX, but I'm more afraid that people will be trying to put NX skins on the NR. Plus, I don't use photoskin so I have to look for skins made just for the NX.

Ok. I downloaded a few "virtual graffiti" skins. I got one to work. Can you load multiple ones and switch between them.

And what is that button for the "silk plug-in" for on the status bar. I still only have the "stanard input" option in there. What am I not understanding???

If you want to load mulitiple skins and switch them, you'll want to get PhotoSkin. Otherwise its a very cumbersome process of resetting multiple times to switch the skins around.

As for the Silk Plug-in button, it allows for the Grafitti area to be totally changed, not just the background. I have seen a calender and a calculator for the Grafitti area. I don't have links as they are lost with the ClieSource database. There wil probaby be many plug-ins to come when some developers find some cool uses for that area.

I downloaded some skins that the pictures were full screen. Explain please why they don't even show up, not even the graffiti area part.

They were probably for launchers. Nothing for Virtual Graffiti would be full screen.

Did it specify it was for the NX (ALL for the NX are marked NX only) The unmarked ones are probably for the NR.

zlauncher is nice, and I'm sure you'll like it, but it does absolutely NOTHING with the virtual graffiti area . . . (yet, I should add. Who knows what they'll add in the future.)

There is NO Tappad functionality for OS5 at this time.

If youre having SB skin problems with an NX, and youre using photoskin... you may not REALLY be having a problem... Ive noticed that names tend not to refresh in the photoskin display... you can try clicking on the blank space below the displayed statusbar skins in photoskin... if there is a skin there... it will show up.

as far as tappad goes on the nx... u should be able to use the skins... if you just like the look of them... they wont function as a tappad skin though... just as a normal VG skin. I havent been able to get tappad to run... but have been able to install the tappad VG skins and have them show up.

if you try installing a NR series statusbar on a NX series clie... it will not show uip at all in the photoskin display.

On ZLaunchers website, they show screenshots of a nn70v with tappad skins. Hmmm, makes you wonder.

How do I know which status bar will work. I saw some with different kinds of memory meters and battery meters and extra buttons, can I use those??? And how??

Yes, any jpg will do.

They show an NR70v, and that's what Tappad was created for. Not a shock that they show it, really....

If the status bar says it's for the NX, then it will work. If it doesn't state it's FOR THE NX then it will probably not work. If you REALLY REALLY REALLY want to know. Install it & see if it shows up. If it doesn't then it's for NR.

They need to be 320 x 480 pixels.

I have a minicalc silk plugin for the VG area. I am pretty sure I got this from this site before the big crash. When selected using the silkloader (fourth icon from the right on status bar), this will turn your VG area into a calculator. From what I remember, the results from the calculator can be uploaded into the body of the program that you're using. I've only tried it with memo pad and Slap, which both works.

From Clie Files, I can see the creator of this program as SpS0, for those of you with more experience, is this something that I can re-post on the site for everyone else? Please let me know, if it's okay, I will post it.

To save memory, you can keep the backgrounds on the Memory Stick in /PALM/Programs/ZLauncher/BackImage. It will copy only the background you are currently using to RAM.
