I noticed the clie viewer 1.1 mentioned on this website: http://www.nccl.sony.co.jp/products/peg-nz90/index.html.
Can't read japanese and am too chicken to actually install it. Also it looks like a japanese only version.

Your link doesn't go anywhere ... but checking the 'parent' site, is it on about the CLIE VIEWER or the SFC Card Viewer (which seems to be version 1.1.) ...
... I think that this is supposed to be the SUICA card viewer ... for the pre-paid cards that you can buy in Japan (and similar in Hong Kong and Singapore) for use in shops, public transportation etc etc ...
... trouble is, I thought that the Japanese version of the NZ-90 had hardware built in to detect these cards (read the existing sored value) ... under the big empty CLIE SONY rectangle, under the keyboard ...
... even the NZ-90 that I bought here in Hong Kong doesn't seem to have anything for detecting my stored value card (called OCTOPUS but manufactued by SONY and the same as the SUICA).
I'll take another look when I get home ...

Oh yeah ... I can see it now ... the home computer can show Japanese characters, although I haven't a clue what it says!!
I will give it a try and let you know how it goes!

Sorry about the link. Was my first thread, not too sure how to do these things.
Thanks for looking into it. Hope we get an english version soon and that its faster than the current version.
Thanks again.
