I have a Zire 72s and a Nokia 6620 (EDGE) from Cingular and they are tethered via Bluetooth. I can web surf pretty well from the Zire, but I noticed it was kind of slow. Testing at dsl reports it consistently get to about 27k-28k bps. Not so hot. Using the phone's own browser and running the same mspeed test it registers around 33k-46k. None of this is EDGE network enabled apparently, but why the loss of speed from the Zire?
TIA,
Matt

Good question, it is likely bad management by the Zire on the BT interface, because, as you know, BT is alot faster than that.
Its similar to a problem I have with my TH-55. If I try to download a new version of TCPMP directly to my TH, it goes slowly, as its a slow download, and the TH doesnt optimize the download. On my computer, I can download the file much faster, though both my TH and computer have connections that are considerably faster than what is needed. I can actually DL to my computer, and wirelessly transfer to my TH faster than going straight to my TH.

You may be right. Watching the dl counter, you can see it pulse. ~5k, pause, another 5k or so, pause, etc. The phone just blasts straight through (if blasting can be in the 40kbps range :) )
Anybody know if there are any upgrades/patches/fixes/hacks out there to fix this?

Check the flow control preference in the network connections under prefs. I know that has some to do with it. Also, check your BT connection settings and max out the speed and see if that makes a differenece. I know doing that last one helped with me. But it seems that there was a lot of processing going on with some pages that made the come down slower (at least teh graphics - text is usually quite fast).
